My favorite thing about Dominator is that it contains Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" in like 6 different languages and they are all enabled by default. So, you could be in the menus listening to the English version, then when you start a race, you are listening to the French version. Always baffled me. I just googled why this could be and apparently this was the song's world premiere. The "Girlfriend" world debut was through Burnout: Dominator.

No mention of the PS2 port being made first was documented on the Wikipedia page for the game. MotorStorm Arctic Edge was released on the PSP then ported to the PS2, and it was originally made for the PSP with things edited out for the PS2 release. Burnout Dominator was NOT a PS2 game first then got ported to PSP with extra content, it was made with the PSP in mind before EA made the PS2 port with less content.

I really enjoyed the difficulty in this title. It was really meant as a mega-arcade version of an already arcade racer and it always challenged you to race harder and better. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's been in my library since 2010.
I'm not positive, but I believe the lack of Crash Events is due to the creator (of them) dying while _Revenge_ was in production. If you remember, there is a "In Remembrance of ..." screen at the start of _Revenge,_ and I think that was the dude who created them, and that's why there were less of them and more repetitive ones in that game, too.
You are talking about Dr. Rabin Ezra who died in 2005 due to hypothermia shortly after leaving criterion. The dude didn’t invent crash mode, instead, he discovered how to use renderware in a more accessible way to program games on the PlayStation 2.

You can tell that Dominator was developed mainly for PSP and then ported to PS2 (like GTA Liberty City Stories), that's why it feels abit regressive compared to its predecessor.
The PS2 isn't, you can definitely tell that in the tutorial cutscenes in the PSP are actually from the PS2 version, it’s originally for PS2 with better graphics
this is by far one my favorite ps2 games i came home from school every day from sometime in elementary till like 8th grade just playing this game. so much setimental value and just pure enjoyment. i remember i got this only bc burnout paradise was sold out and i couldn't be more glad that game was sold out at the time. i still have my disc just wish i still had a ps2.
The problem with Dominator is the level designs, since the main trick to this game is constant boost, the levels are less interesting compared to Revenge.
I still don't get why Burnout 3 doesn't get a remaster. No need for something groundbreaking, the graphic engine from Paradise would be fine enough. This would be easy money for EA. About Dominator... Well, I played it two hours and got back to Takedown right after. Great video by the way, as usual ;)
music licenses are problematic. also these games are made with renderware and ea probably does not want nor have the right people to mess with that engine
With a [remakester], some of the magiks would be gone I'd say as it wouldn't be the same game anymore (more literally - it's just something new that looks sort of familiar). Also, there's a chance of it being bad (and also good, but still). The original is there, why not just play that. I dunno, it feels like people are degrading some games by saying they're awsum [sic] and then refusing to play them for whatever reason.

And I still wonder what's stopping peoples from getting older consoles and game stuffs used or keeping them around when they get new stuffs. Cash can't be the issue, especially if new stuff gets bought (and the emulation things on PC side usually sound hypocritical when I hear things about that as new stuff is fine to buy, but all things old must be free somehow - though I'm fine with getting a legit copy and then emulating using that). I've kept all the same game stuff I have for 20 years, and also gotten new stuff for those consoles to play. Also, still have a CRT for maximum enjoyment. If a re-release has to be done, I'd say "a digital store re-release as-is" and that's that if people won't bother with the other method everyone used back in them days. That game introduced me to Burnout Chaining and it pained me to remember driving like a maniac to keep the Burnout Chain going till X50. I'm still stuck at Total Maniac (the last event of the World Tour) though.

from someone who played the crap out of takedown and revenge on ps2 as a kid in the mid-2000s, there was just something about dominator that didn't grip me as those two did. removal of crash junctions? no traffic checking? whatever it was, dominator is the only BO i've never finished nor really cared about
I know alot of people did not like it compared to 3 and revenge. But this is also worth your time i had both ps2 and psp versions... Soooooo amazing! Especially playing this on psp during a power cut had lots of fun with this and burnout legends psp. That feeling when you keep chaining the boost bar in dominator ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Supposedly the PS2 port was done first, according to one commenter I encountered after I made my reply about Crash Mode being for the PS2 port of the game, but I don't believe them since this and the PSP port came out the same day in the United States.

@@ChaseMC215 from what I have read with producers it was a concurrent development for both so I suppose I was technically inaccurate when stating it was a port so to speak despite it kind of being not a port? From my take the interviews imply/directly state the PS2 just made sense due to existing market and tech so making the use of assets for the PS2 just made sense and PSP title made sense due to progress made since legends, new market, response to legends etc. I see the logic, making the PSP version was let’s say 65% of the effort and then it is a no brainer to roll that into doing a PS2 sku with little to no real overhead. I’m guessing some assets would have been generated for the PS2 primarily in some instances and then maybe vice versa for the PSP in other instances.

It's always been hard for me to get into this game. I think I've had a hard time understanding the mechanics cause I didn't know how to build up the boost and the fact that Crash mode wasn't in it kind of killed it for me lol
Can you even imagine how disappointed I was after playing 1 hour of this game back then? I mean we all played Revenge and it was a peak Burnout experience because there was no such thing as traffic checking in any other game. It made gameplay dynamic and every race felt different. I don't see a reason why anybody would go 5 steps back instead of taking what you already have and improve on it. But hey it's EA and they're still doing this with any other major franchise.

This was the same team that worked on Legends afaik, which was released around the same time as Revenge. They might have been consulted, but they were working on Paradise which came out the following year.

Rubber banding in Dangerous driving was the worst lol. I literally won a rival race event because rival got stuck and I was like 110 seconds ahead lol. I also believe they removed it in an event called "heatwave" think burnout event but it's a race.
I like dominator better thab revenge due to it actually containing some form of a "single race" mode like burnout 3 had abd the game is much brighter than revenge like i can finally choose freely if i wabt to play road rage or not wich is nice

It might be because it was made by EA Europe and not Criterion Games.
I really liked the game, i was never a great fan of Crash mode and was in to the racing part of the Burnout series
I know alot of people did not like it compared to 3 and revenge. But this is also worth your time i had both ps2 and psp versions... Soooooo amazing! I like dominator better thab revenge due to it actually containing some form of a "single race" mode like burnout 3 had abd the game is much brighter than revenge like i can finally choose freely if i wabt to play road rage or not wich is nice
Burnout chaining in this game is amazing. Paradise instead is boring as hell.

its a very difficult game. the handling was so difficult as the speed was too much
