"Piss filter and a lot of brown" Yep, welcome to THAT era. Something I really like about Burnout Revenge is it's advancement system. You earn stars by doing the usual stuff: Jumps, drifts, driving on oncoming, takedowns, etc. Can get up to 4, and gain 1 extra if you get a gold medal (or lose 1 if you get a bronze!). In the end this means that you don't have to get golds everywhere to keep advancing, and thus you won't be stuck as often. It's pretty neat, and it also rewards you for doing all the cool stuff and not just sticking to "ha ha first place".
Man early 7th Gen games are hilarious how almost EVERY single game has the bloom + yellow/brown piss filter. It almost makes me think sony and Microsoft were telling devs to make them look like that the way the vast majority of games looked like that for 3 years (05-08)
Me and my girlfriend have been bonding on legends with a psp emulator :D the fact that we have several media units around the house makes for awesome multiplayer :D
@@dylancoulbeck7483 I just had to pick up burnout R for my 360 had it for play station 2, but I let my friend borrow it and never got it back. Had to relive my childhood 🤣
Oe of the reasons I watched reviews of old games is because when I sold a console I usually forget some of the games I played on it. I remember I played Burnout but I couldn't remember it was Revenge. So review after review on your channel, nostalgia finally hit me like a truck when I recognized the tracks of the game. Thanks man.
Played a demo of Revenge back in the day at a Walmart and was introduced to the series. Promptly bought a copy of Takedown and played the hell out of it. Even if it's slightly derivative of Takedown I'll never forget Revenge for turning me onto the series.
Me too! I remember telling my mom about this cool new car game, where you could explode at will and she was like: Why create a game with so much destruction?
The "gaming pastime" title could use sound effects for each letter popping in or something. Your reviews are great, and there are so many of them. I hope the subs grow in 2021 cause it's well earned. Happy New Year from Ireland!
I literally just ordered a copy of burnout revenge yesterday and this video shows up. I find it kind of funny in a way that I want a game that came out in 2005 and I just got a ps5. I have an xbox one though. I want to play this game a lot since so many people have said it was nostalgic for them!
Revenge was alright. My biggest problem with the game was the shadows. On some of the tracks, especially the mountain pass and any track with a sunset, it gets kinda hard to see where you’re going because the shadows are too dark. I always crash because I can’t see anything. I also thought the shortcuts where more dangerous than they should have been. This is why I like 3 better than Revenge. Anyway, I’m loving these Burnout reviews! It’s one of my favorite series and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about Paradise. Also Happy New Year!
I played Burnout Revenge on the original Xbox all the freaking time. I got it on the 360 and didn't play it that much. I don't know why I preferred that original version over the 360 one.
IMO, the Crash mode in Revenge was the all time best version they made. I missed the crazy big explosion when I play Showtime in Burnout Paradise. Definitely an improvement than 3.
I only checked out the 360 version of this game just a little bit as I mostly played the PS2 version, but it's awesome just like it's predecessor, but I still think 3 is the best. The omission of a single event mode in revenge is very disappointing to me, I love racing games where you can create your own custom events without any restrictions and play them so you can enjoy the gameplay and crash mechanics without resorting into fixed events, I was very disappointed indeed with this missing feature and they should not have taken it out of the game, custom event modes bring a lot more replay value than they do, even after the campaign or career modes, so you can enjoy the game in any way that you like. I'm so thankful this problem is remedied in dominator with the "Record Breaker" mode, thank you criterion for that!! I preferred takedown a little because of the crash and vehicle flipping physics, but I indeed had a lot of fun with revenge's blistering fast racing and destruction, even the traffic checking and crash breakers, but those new mechanics arent for everyone, if I had to see a new burnout game, I like it to be a successor to takedown's layout. I did enjoy the crash mode, like I always did, but the newly added crowd noises, speech, jeers and cheers are incredibly corny and in a very bad way, they are very annoying and you can't turn it off, which sucks, I don't know why they bothered, might as well mute the TV. I'm surprised that you did not mention the replay mode in Burnout revenge for the 360, the addition of a cinematic replay after an event is finished is absolutely badass, I love watching replays of events that I done in a cinematic Hollywood style, with lots of unique camera angles all around the driving and destruction, kind of like watching a movie, that feature has been slept on and I recommend everyone to have a lot of fun with it, it's missing in the PS2 version, which is why I give the 360 version a little bit more points because of the addition of such a feature, so damn cool. I would kill for another burnout game in the same vein as burnout 3 takedown, add in a ton of vehicles, tracks, modes, custom event creation, online play, crash junctions, and vehicle customization, and you have yourself a multi million seller, it isn't too late in today's gaming generation, because I really miss games like this.
I thought I was the only one that hated the cringy cheering and crowd sounds, like who's gonna cheer like that when they see a terrible accident lol, it was just so weird and out of place, I hated it.
Would also consider Revenge as my favourite. Shooting traffic into your opponents just never gets old. Played it on an og xbox back in the day and I still prefer it over the 360 version (a lot less annoying graphic effects)
I have a PSP and I have played Burnout Legends and what's interesting is the level of similarity between the two with the difference that Revenge has more modes and content (and of course technically more advanced) I didn't know they were released in the same day thanks for the review, it was great
My friend you have to review and give all the recognition it deserves. You have to review SPEC OPS THE LINE. By no means it's a perfect game. But the story and it's visual story telling is top notch. It's a must play.
Since you're doing burnout, I'm wondering if you plan on covering the need for speed series soon? Theres tons so I wouldn't expect a marathon of them like this series, but maybe every other game could get a review, but that's up to you
Ah this game's in a weird spot where the next gen version has more detail with the car damage, but the old gen version looks better, you can *see* more detail, and it performs the same because it lacks the absurd Bloom and blur.
Some thing really odd I think is that the PS2 has some things the XBOX 360 version doesn't and vise versa. Personally I like the PS2 version better because less bloom mostly.
You and me both, the classic burnout games deserve a port to the pc, I don't know why they didn't bothered with such an idea back then, so we don't have to resort to consoles all the time.
@@tropixx_xlr1549 Not only that but modding them would've been awesome and I'm sure we would've figured out a way to keep the multiplayer alive on PC too... but oh well what a missed opportunity.
i always thought of revenge as just a better version of 3 as a kid, so i would always play it. tbh i had it on ps2, i didnt even know the 360 version existed
they made the wrong damn game backwards compatible! Should had and always had been Burnout 3, none the less it's a welcome addition to my gaming library.
Man, you fucked up by reviewing the wrong version. The original Xbox version is way better due to less bloom and piss filter. But, the main thing is that the OG Xbox has 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound, where the 360 does not. ☝
I think I might get this game. It looks like a lot of fun. Though I like that you mentioned the bloom lighting that became a thing/scourge of the time. I think it really aged some games. Anyway, I'm looking forward to checking this one out.

Same 😉 FlatOut FlatOut 2 Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge all on my ps2
This game aged like fine wine, so glad it's backwards compatible

I pray to the gaming god that ea get of there big fat arses and get criterion to make another burnout or at least remaster this one or takedown
Traffic checking blows. 2 & 3 is where the series peaked. 2 for racing (and had the best crash mode) and 3 for battling.
