Have you guys heard anything about waves changing due to climate change? We've all heard about the intensification of hurricanes and atmospheric rivers but what about the bread and butter swell generating storms in the north pacific and southern ocean. I mention it because there's all that NOAA data that has probably been analyzed? Scott Bass makes a great point about the north shore being a proving ground, historically and still, for ambitious chargers, and that to go there and cut the mustard, so to speak, is challenging in all sorts of ways, including, but not just, the waves and the lineups. 'Grindy'. Whereas going to Abu Dhabi is 'Soft'. Full stop. There's a lot of romance to surfing because of the man against nature thing and there's a lot of challenges that real surfers deal with all the time that nobody seas, the scrambles down the cliffs, getting cleaned up or going over the falls, flopping around on half a dry reef needing to get back out or in, weird paddle outs, getting naked in a parking lot, seaweed, 'did I just get bumped?', fogged in and can't see the shore, pod of dolphins arrives, waves go flat, 3 beautiful women paddle out, check the tide, etc, etc, etc... I've never been to a wave pool but I have been imagining: there would be parking, then check in, pay or confirm the session, welcome bag?, put on my identification, and head through the commercial zone to get to the changing lounge (locker room? I've never been), get changed and head to the waiting zone, bro down a little with the other surfers, and then hit the line up, I wonder how the build that special zone where the surfer first contact the waters, is it a shallow ramp, 2 shallow steps, maybe a 'jump zone', they creators will be thinking about liability and the experience of the surfer so I'm interested in how they treat the water entry. And then surfing endless perfect waves just like we have always wanted. Now that malls are closed and there's no surfers at the beaches will teenage girls go to the wave pools to hang out? Could they add a casino and some michelin star dining? 21:00 Jamie O, the doughy deep dropper. Are you guys giving him a free pass on the pipeline 'mixup'. The story I got from SS was that Jamie was invited, said that he wasn't invited for the eyeballs (to unite his base), outrage ensued, Deep Dropper thanked his fans for their support and humbly accepted the still offered invitation. That is how winners move, you want to own a surf school at a 4 Seasons (if he chases women imagine that), take a lesson young aspirants. One potential thing that could happen in competitive surfing is it could completely die, and be reborn. Imagine coastlines and communities hosting contests so the surfers that lived there could compete against each other, very little money, good trophies, cool local scene on the beach, lots of people know each other for years, that could easily get traction and grow into something really compelling. Surfing is not football so why do the want to portray it that way? Weak sauce, limp dick. Tennis Tour said the ever impressive Mr. Martinez.
I think if you just take a look at the data ... something is happening. Tides have changed, storm paths have changed, erosion has changed. How is it where you are? Floridas gulf coast has had a remarkable season w unprecedented storms... not exactly a place known for swell consistency
@@SurfSplendor Yea, I'm in Tola Nicaragua and don't have the historical framework to evaluate anything. Seems like rains are going later in the year but in 2016 times there was a bad 4 year drought where the seawater slid into the inland aquifers. It doesn't feel like there is any big impact, changes, or worry here; that's how I know it's bogus. Jajaja.
Also super bummed there’s no Haleiwa and Sunset QS coverage! Here’s hoping at least the back door shootout is streamed. I’m jonesing for an exciting pipe contest viewing experience.
If Vans is really so strapped for cash that they can’t even stream the crown jewel of the triple crown, they should just sell their event licensing rights to a brand that will. Why even bother with the event if your logo is not being blasted in front all the surfing viewerships eyeballs. The only difference between them and the other legacy surf brands at this point is that everyone I know still owns a pair of vans. I think the now out of vogue legacy brands may have them beat with regard to big event sponsorship at this point.
I cannot believe that someone isn’t organizing a stream of these events. It’s not like interest in surf is diminishing - it just became an Olympic sport, and the events in hawaii are as core as it gets. And they are potentially the most exciting contests that take place. 🤷🏼♂️
If the waves are sucking and you know you're going to surf another spot 5 minutes down the road, why would you get out of your suit and re-suit? Nothing is worse than getting into a wet wetsuit. Not even the shame of getting out of your crappy sedan already suited up. However wearing a jacket on top of your wetsuit is too much. Like wearing sandals while suited. Not a good look.
You should consider putting time stamps
Scott's story right out the gate was epic, sput is by far best surf podcast out here thx guys yeew
Yewww! Thanks for all the love and support?

Unacceptable

It's surprising that when it was decided they couldn't or wouldn't stream... that the WSL didn't make other arrangements. It's the Super Bowl

This is a huge story and more will come to light!
ASP waves and surfers of consequence - WSL neither waves or surfers of consequence - hence the demise of professional surfing.
Interesting. Remove the consequence and the heart is also removed

What do you think the min time between sessions is when you can leave your suit on between them?
