I used to surf with Liam and Garret back in the day. Liam was the guy on the north shore who if you gave him respect you might receive the same respect. In the water he definitely had a punk persona about him then but that's what made him who he is. Back in 91, a memory that is still engrained in my brain to this day of Liam and I sharing some sweet waves at Gums all to ourselves. Mahalo Liam for the memories!
Mahalo for this interview as Liam filled in lots about the NS years between '68 thru the 90's I had missed out on (having left in '68 for Australia). And I agree on his perspective on the WSL's tragic decision to dump essentially young Hawaiian surfers coming up. Deep respect for how much he has given back. Happy to hear his mention how Pancho won the day at Sunset ... and that he took him places when younger with the others.
@@waikeleboy I don’t agree. Surfing owes nothing to Hawaii or the guys that surf pipeline. Surf companies make just as much from Tahiti or Australia. They owe Hawaii nothing..
@danielmcdougall8388 Being greatful is important. Some people take advantage blinded by emotions and self powering moments. At the end being greatful for the experience, that stoke feeling one gets from pulling in 8 foot pipe. Yes they do owe but they probably will never give back because they ain't surfers they use the surfers to get rich they only know how to judge and manipulat. You guys only looking out for your investment.
the WSL has taken hostage of professional surfing. No real surfer like the state of things, but we sold our sport to the highest bidder (an absentee billionaire) and this is what happens.
What about collective sponsorship from all the countries to fund the tour all around the world and put pipe and the triple crown as the year end focus as it should be… Let’s be smart about this and honor Hawaii as Mecca and deciding factor for the championship, not 2 foot chopp and hop…
yeh, strange when guys like this, and usually the non-native Hawaiian ones, make statements about pro surfing not centered on the north shore, yet these same guys want to scare off surfers from the north shore. Hawaii isn't the end-all determination of a great surfer.

Most stand up nicest guy i ever met on the north shore!! Mahalo
That's awesome to hear, Jason! How did you meet him?
Liam thank you, great interview

Liam speaking truth. Legend.
Interesting POV.
Anything in particular? Thanks for watching!
At least 2 events
Like Hawaii is the home of surfing
Say just for example one at pipe and one at Honolulu bay
Agreed. I've heard that Honolulu Bay doesn't hold a swell for a long enough time to accommodate MENS and WOMENS , but I'm not sure.
Rad. Astrodeck front and back! Love the realness. No fake crap.
Astrodeck is the OG, still making pads
That must be the 1st time I heard a MAHALO to the Photo Guys….
Yes Liam makes a big point. Respect the grounds that produce bank for these companies. Give back to the pipe rippahs.
100%

I'm Australian but not to end the tour in Hawaii and have it in Trestles is a joke and why Haleiwa and Sunset is not on the tour is a joke

And all the surfers on the tour or high profile surfers don't say anything snowflake nobheads

True. Hawaii may not be the end-all for many, but for professional surfers Hawaii is the ultimate.
