He and others think he’s something like 22% when he was 185 but that would mean he has 144 pounds of lean mass. 8% at 145 is only 133.4, where did 11 pounds of lean mass go? You don’t lose muscle during a cut if you consume enough protein to make up for energy loss. A 2014 study showed this you can search evidence based protein lean body mass and will find it, Jeff Nippard also referenced the study in his video explaining why he recommends 1.6 grams per pound of lean mass. It doesn’t take as many sets to maintain muscle either, maybe half of what you’d normally do. 11 pounds independent of weight gain is a lot. Example to go from 165 20% to 165 15% you’d have to gain 8 pounds of muscle. When putting it into that context you can see that’s more muscle than people with average genetics would gain in their first year even if they follow a decent program pushing sets close to actual failure progressively overloading. I'm far from being elite bodybuilder or elite powerlifter... But clearly maintaining progression with strength program is INSANELY harder than keeping muscle growth going... Just dealing with fatigue, overtraining, and INJURIES let alone all other constraints from just working out in general... I have more respect from those lifting tons of weight than those just slightly putting in intensity and growing anyway because they inject tons ot GH and PEDs...
Any knee sleeves will help tremendously. I use adidas cheap elastic sleeves for standard training, and rouge 7mm neoprene for high weight pushing limits. The only reason I dont use the rouge all the time is they are a pain to put on, and I dont need them for routine work.

I think people just start working out, and then powerlifting or alternatively bodybuilding is something you drift into depending on your aquaintances at the gym. If you're naturally strong you might get into powerlifting because some guy at the gym thinks you have potential. Or, alternatively if your genetics get you big really easily, some guy at the gym takes you to a bodybuilding show and you get inspired.
