    I hate those "I pay your salary" people. I had ONE time someone saw me off duty and recognized me, and started with that crap. Right off the bat he came up to me and my wife when we were shopping at Costco, looked at me and said "you should be arresting this person out in the parking lot for begging, we have laws against that here, we pay your salary to do your job."
    I looked at him and said "you are not paying me anything right now, I am off duty and out of my jurisdiction. What do you expect me to do without cuffs or anything other than a firearm? Maybe next time you want someone to do something, don't be a dick about it and they might be more willing to help."
    That asshole looked around at the scene they just made by practically yelling that at me, and out of the blue I heard some random dude spout off "Wow, you're a dick, he's homeless not a criminal" and the guy walked off. He tried filing a complaint to my department and they laughed him off... especially since I am a federal officer and cant enforce state or city law.

      Eric Talbot that shit happened to me when I was a teenager.
      they pulled up and knocked on my window they could clearly see her and me, she was completely naked.
      I hopped out and said 'well, you caught me literally red handed'
      she got dressed and got out
      they asked if I had any drugs or alcohol, I told them I had a bowl packed with weed.
      they asked where and I told them under the driver seat. they couldn't find it so I went under and gave it to them.
      they sat around and bullshitted, meanwhile I'm standing against their car.
      well they got an 'emergency call' told me I was lucky and they all left, me and her were just staring at each other like what just happened.
      I got back in my car and they left me my bowl, carefully standing up to not spill the weed!!
      those cops were awesome. I smoked that shit while driving away hahahaha. I was a crazy teenager

    • @BLACKzj52
      @BLACKzj52 7 років тому +24

      @Sebastian LMAO. I had something similar happen twice, however without the weed. Both of these instances happened when I was 17 which was basically this time of year 10 years ago. First time, we were just getting started so no clothing was taken off yet. Cop pulls up behind us and comes up to the window, yadda yadda. Pulls my ex out of the car and asks if shes being held against her will. Obviously, she says no and that she lost her wallet and that is why we were both in the 2nd row "looking for it". He lets us go no problem.
      2nd time, we were in full fledged doing battle in the back of my Jeep in a random shopping strip parking lot. She's on top and all the sudden goes "COP!", and sure enough there was a cop at the end of the strip with his spot light checking inside a store for whatever reason. She panics and says we gotta go. So we go. I turn on my jeep then take off but one of my taillights was blown out so the cop followed. Not I got a head start and took off, speeding until I was back in his sight (which then I slowed down). I had just managed to get my pants on, while driving mind you, when he flipped his lights on and I pull over. Now my ex got her shorts on and was wearing my t-shirt, and no bra.. Says he pulled me over bc of my taillight all the while staring at both of us somewhat awkwardly. Looks at my ex and says, "Ma'am, could you exit the vehicle please?" My ex gets out with sex hair, my shirt, her shorts barely on, sweaty, yadda yadda (looking back it was a hilarious sight). Asks her if she was being held against her will, which she says "no". And then he awkwardly admits to her that he really pulled us over because ..... and she politely interrupts him saying "because you thought we were having sex?". Real embarrassed, the officer starts trying to dismiss what she said that while stumbling over words. He sheepishly re-mentions the taillight and sends us on our way. My ex and I would continue to use that parking lot for roughly 80% of the nights over the next 2 months until high school started back from summer break.
      Oh man, the memories, too funny. I tried to trim as much out of the story as possible without sacrificing the essentials but still ended up writing a book. Oh well.

    So I've thought of a good video which I don't think you have done yet. What is the difference, if any, between cops that drive the typical sedans, vs SUV's, Trucks, under cover, Motorcycles, pedal bikes, horses, segways even maybe? I guess basically the question is what are the different vehicles used by the police and what purpose does each one serve? And do certain cops only driver certain police vehicles? Also, have you ever driver any police vehicle other than your sedan styled ones?
    Everyone like this one so he can see it. Also add anything I might have missed about different police vehicles you might want to know more about. Take care and stay safe.

    • @Dusty2K6
      @Dusty2K6 4 роки тому +3

      401 may not have seen this, and I know your comment is 2 years old, but Im also a police officer in another jurisdiction and I think I can answer your question for you.
      Generally speaking "it depends" is the answer to a lot of policing questions. Police departments employ different vehicle types to have versatile capabilities but may not be specific to a unit. For example, in my jurisdiction, patrol officers will drive Taurus, Explorer, Tahoe and Crown Vic simply because that's what's in the parking lot. The crown vics just hasnt been miled out yet and are still being used. We also have a combination of marked/unmarked vehicles for patrol. We tend to save the Explorers and Tahoes for the taller officers.
      That being said special units do have specialized vehicles of their own simply because they carry specialized equipment in them like a dog cage for K9, or high tech collision analysis equipment for the (qualified) traffic guys. Watch Commanders or Critical Incident Commanders tend to drive larger vehicles as well because they have tables, ladders and chairs (oh my) in them for incident management.
      So theres no one right answer on this one, and Dept. Policy might kick in too. But where I am, and a lot of places I know of, the fleet is just the fleet, take a car that works... just dont take "that" car because it has special stuff in it.
      If you see 2 cars, ones an unmarked Taurus the other a marked Explorer, they may simply be patrol guys in a different model of car... or a traffic specialist and a K9. "It depends."

    When I was a teenager I had a job at JC Penny's. In school, THAT VERY WEEK in one of my classes we talked about how to spot a shop lifter.
    I spotted a guy that was doing EXACTLY what they told us to watch for. He was spending more time looking at other people than looking at the merchandise. So I got on the phone and called the store dispatcher and told them about the suspicious "shopper" I went back to keep an eye on him so I could point him out when store security showed up. Then his bag did something weird. It said, "We have a suspicious shopper in the mens department." Turned out he worked for store security, and he was doing what I had done.
    I went over to tell him that HE was the suspect. The next day I got called into the boss's office, sure I was going to be in trouble. Instead they gave me a check for $100, which was a good bonus back in 1987

      Azil DreamZ there are actually a few ways of becoming a police officer depending on where you live, you can speak with your local Community College as some of them offer police academies which financial aid will pay for, or you can pay for it yourself, some agencies most of them being State agencies will pay you and send you to their Academy. a lot of police departments are now requiring a minimum of 30 college credits before they will hire you some still don't do that, foremost agencies their minimum requirements are you have to be 19 years of age have to have a clean record and generally they go back 5 years on your driving history so you can't have too many speeding tickets, almost all departments want you to have a bare minimum of 2 years public contact experience which really means you have to have had a job like at Publix or Walmart just something that gives you public contact, in Florida the police academy is 770 hours and takes approximately six and a half months to complete at which point you can start applying

      Well if it is anything like in Australia, the intake and education requirements vary from state to state not to mention he has an international audience (obviously, me being an Aussie) so a lot of what he himself has been through won't be relevant to the majority of viewers. He kind of has to be generic in the answer. I would suggest showing initiative and finding for yourself as much information for your local area before approaching the police service you want to work with and discussing with some of the senior officers (particularly recruitment) what they want in recruits and for tips on how to make yourself desirable.
      Speaking of my own experience in Aus, medics have gone from on road training for just a few years and a few months of theory to a University degree (in my case 4 years) and graduate year before qualification. Even then our universities are pumping out more students than the services need so doing patient transport or first responder work while at University gives you a leg up on the competition. Spend extra time working with vulnerable groups or in a position of responsibility to have excellent references on application. Know where your profession is heading and anticipate your future training needs (ie extended care practitioners in regional areas as nurses and doctors increasingly specialise and don't want to work in the bush). For police I can highly recommend further training on Mental health concerns (we utilise 56 here often with combative patients and require 56 for sectioning under our states law for involuntary patients)

You’re super transparent and down to earth and say whatever is in your mind and that makes things a hell of a lot easier to understand. No sugar coating just straight up knowledge with some insight and that makes for great content. Very informative as well and you’ve answered nearly every single question I have ever wanted to ask an officer of the law. The animations and little pop ups add to the spunk and it’s overall entertaining and informative. Keep making videos and posting your daily dose of keeping shit real and I’ll be a sub forever!

      officer401 Officer 401. I am sociologist/criminologist and from what was able to summarized, I think the real core question is probably what does an off duty officer do if he/she do if they observe if they see a blatant criminal act transpiring in their field of view ie shoplifting or an obviously intoxicated person fumbling for their car keys to get into their vehicle.

    • @officer401
      @officer401  7 років тому +24

      Isaac McAuley that's actually a very good question! Usually your license gets suspended because you were doing something stupid. Chances are you're going to be suspended without pay. That is, if you don't get fired. there's no reason a cop should have their license suspended. We have had officers who's license has expired. They were suspended without pay until they got their license renewed.

It was such harassment that I started smoking weed to ignore it. Of course went to jail for a few days for that. And here I am still defending 95% of cops and trying to get them to help fix the broken system. Can you imagine if cops from all over the country descended on the few bad departments to provide external oversight? The good cops could stand up together and fix the bad departments like nothing if they organized and put their minds to it

    Question that doesn't really pertain to this video- I have a lot of respect for all service people that put their lives on the line (military, police, firefighters, etc), and so when I see people in uniform, I usually like to say something along the lines of "Thank you for your service," but recently an officer kinda gave me a weird look when I said it. I guess that I'm asking 1) Is it annoying to the officer for me to thank them in public, and should I not do that? and 2) Does it sound sarcastic? Because I definitely don't want to come across as a dickhead when I'm genuinely trying to thank someone. Thanks for the response!

      Adidasp4 Everyone who goes through the police academy has to learn hand to hand combat skills, to disarm people safely, and many different ways of taking people down who don't want to be handcuffed. I don't know for sure what all they do, yet, but surely someone who is a cop could she'd some light on this. I've heard they have to do a good bit of hand to hand and chasing skills.

      I know I’m late on your comment but, yes most academies and law-enforcement agencies require new recruits to go through some sort of defensive tactics training.Which encompasses mixed martial arts and wrestling in order to respond to resistance and use of force.

      The academy doesn't really teach you those skills enough though. They mainly teach the basics. You have to go join an MMA gym on your downtime and train.

    You say you know about every car behind you... What do cops think of imports in particular "grey market vehicles" (Nissan Skyline..)? Thx!!
