    I’m 70, disabled by multiple disorders which each cause severe pain, unable to workout in 20 years, but I feel safe. I’d probably end up in the hospital for what my movement did to my poor body, lol, but can still defend myself. I practice in my mind everyday. I use the breathing to help with pain control and keep my lungs strong.

      The key part is stretching your boundaries as far as pain goes and fighting through it, if you constructively train this way you will become very resilient.

    I did Goju Ryu when i was a teenager for a while.
    I also did Kyokushin about a year ago for a bit too.
    Makes me wish i didn't quit Kyokushin but there are too many techniques in karate that just aren't practical and i realised this when training.
    I do bjj now and love it.
    I did kickboxing and Muay Thai for 6 years so i'm not a quitter and have enough striking knowledge.

    • @dwddindin
      @dwddindin 5 років тому +4

      Maybe it's just that you didn't know how to use the techniques. You must not have went to a very good school and I assume that's because you live in America. It's hard to find good karate schools in America that have the old stuff like okinawan and Japanese karate does. Don't blame the art it will make you look like a fool :).

      @@dwddindin actually,i live in Australia and my instructor at the time was a 9th dan shihan and if you understood my comment you would see that i didn't blame the art at all.
      I explained that i could see impractical techniques that weren't worth a pinch of shit in a self defence situation and i realised that because i had 6 years prior knowledge from practical striking arts such as kickboxing & muay thai.
      P.s,i also said it makes me wish i didn't quit kyokushin because i love martial arts in general,so for you to say i blamed the art,or i don't know how to use techniques is just wrong.

      When I first started, my instructor was in a wheelchair for several months and then assisted walking with a cane for year. So I literally spent my first year learning from someone who couldn't walk and balance due to a bad car wreck and surgery.
      Translation of knowledge comes from repetition training over a long time. Not a few demonstrations.

    I usually don’t like to knock a grandmaster on technique, but his kicks lack any pivot on his support foot and his legs are not fully loaded into chamber. This results in quick but half-kicks that lack full power and range. It might work in pint fighting and perhaps in close quarter combat (I.e. indoors), but in my style it’s considered improper technique and my style incorporates a lot of the same techniques and forms as GJR.

      I mean, the guy was 65 years old at the time this video was recorded. Only in anime do the old masters perform flawless techniques even in their 60s and 70s. In real life most of them have bad knees or other issues by that age. He seems knowledgeable enough though.
