My hero again. That error message was driving me bananas. Thought it was an ABS issue. Thanks! Also getting a thermostat error saying the operating temp is too cool. Nothing more expensive than a paid off truck lol.
Another great video that helped me change out the module in less than 30 mins. Loosening the 3 torx bits made it an easy to slide the mounting plate off the frame. Red Connector lock tab was a little difficult to break free , but after it released, finally got it off... Hopefully this will fix my trailer service issue and a few other codes it's been throwing....
I have been watching your videos and find them very interesting and helpful I think you present them very clear and true full I have learned a lot from you I have a 2021 Silverado duramax 6.6 thank you for publishing this I find that you are a real gentleman again thank you for your support
I am very glad that you showed your full size spare under your truck. I didn't know that it would fit. GM mounts a spare with a one inch smaller wheel.
Nice vid and a great fix! I always find it interesting as to how much rust is on the Northern trucks. I used to live up North, so I get it, but it's been over 38 years. I lost a '68 Cougar and a '70 Camaro due to rust on the body when I lived there. Glad I don't have to worry about that now. :)
Just about to do this myself. Got the "Service Trailer Brake" error. Got a 7 pin tester, found that the 12V to the trailer was out - caused by a blown fuse. Got the fuse replaced, but tomorrow is the first time I'll be hooking up the trailer since I replaced the fuse. Something had to take that fuse out, guessing it was something in the controller. I'll find out tomorrow! Thanks for posting the video, it'll help a ton.
Rob; The trailer brake issue-controller can have (3) outcomes. #1, The trailer brake controller is bad. #2, the trailer harness from the bumper hitch to the in-bed 5th wheel connector is bad(intermittent). #3, there is an issue with the towed unit(trailer) electrical system. I have experience these same issues on my 2016 GMC. I have noticed that if I DONT turn off my lights when hooking up a trailer, I will get a voltage surge and it will wack-out my brake trailer controller system for almost an entire day. I can use my Autel scanner to try to clear the code, but the GM-Chevy systems are junk. It takes a day for any residual voltage-issue to reset. The Supervisor in our annual Safety class meeting said that Dually Depot or Dan's Hitch can modify the B+ power line to our trailer connectors to help eliminate the trailer connection, issue, etc. Good luck, James B.... Instead of a dialectic grease or just cleaning and blowing these connections out and reconnecting, have you considered using a stabilant 22A product to improve the connection in the plug?
My 19’ 2500HD started the “service trailer brake” message in the dash about 2 months ago. Then it threw a Service Engine light, took it to AutoZone to scan it, and it’s throwing a “u109 code is for a lost communication with the fuel pump control module”. After watching this, I’m hoping it’s just that module that’s causing the issue because she has no problem starting and driving.

Great video Robby! I like how you go thru step by step, that will help someone one day for sure!
I really enjoy how you share your thought process.

Great video again, man that’s amazing if it lasted that long, not bad at all
Another great video. Thank you C Farmer.
Was the module causing the stabilitrak issues as well? Thank you.
I’m having the same issue!
Good video Bud. Had to do the same thing a while back.

Good video thanks
That looks pretty easy to change.
Did you put some dielectric grease on the plug
Have you had any problems with the replacement GM part number? I began getting a Fault 2 and now it’s a Fault 3. I can’t find info about those faults.

Did you unhook the batteries?
Did your trailer brakes and lights stop working ?
Well, now you have a spare module in case something happens. Hopefully not though. Good video.

Are you getting plenty of work these days
