The contra rotating on this is so unique and smart, like you said in regards to the engine power, interesting why the tech isn't used more often

The Kaman HH-43 Husky used a very interesting design also. It's coaxial but it does away with the need of a tail rotor so all power can be used on the main rotordiscs.
In some way the Chinook does use the same principle but doesn't eliminate the lose of lift on one side of either rotor when flighing fast.

The Sikorsky S-97 Raider is using contra rotation to eliminate the problem of half of the rotor losing lift when flighing fast.
I doubt that it will be as fool proof as Kamovs design.

The Hokum is the Mi-28. Different builder. The Ka-50 is known as Havoc. I guess they are too closely named.

      Exactly opposite.
      Kamov Ka-50 "Hokum".
      Mil Mi-28 "Havoc".
These are NATO designations which start with an H so you know it's a Helicopter. That's why they are closely named.

      @@mikecimerian6913 Good idea so I did. Ka-50: Hokum A, Ka-52: Hokum B, Mi-28: Havoc.

During the late 1990s, Kamov and Israel Aerospace Industries developed a tandem-seat cockpit version, the Kamov Ka-50-2 "Erdogan" (Russian: Эрдоган, Turkish: Erdoğan), to compete in Turkey's attack helicopter competition. Kamov also designed another two-seat variant, the Kamov Ka-52 "Alligator" (Russian: Аллигатор, NATO reporting name: Hokum B).
