  • @randomhandle

    I'm just going to type "war crimes" as though I have any understanding of what that phrase means, as though I have any knowledge about what laws actually govern international conflicts, as though I have any idea about what particular facts might combine with that law to suggest personal culpability for a president (as opposed to a general, let's say), and as though I have any idea about the legal standards that necessitate findings of guilt in a court system I know virtually nothing about.
    But, damn, when I say "war crimes" I sure do feel better about myself because I sound "woke" and because nobody has ever called me a war criminal.

      You talk about war crimes; I have two words for you, Depleted Uranium.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle 7 років тому +7

      It's not an analogy, mate. It's a sarcastic commentary about people's willingness to reach grandiose conclusions without a shred of requisite knowledge. Citing or proposing categories of knowledge that are requisite to a decent understanding of a subject would, if anything, be creating a distinction from that which I satirize--more of a rebuttal than an analogy, but thanks for playing.

    • @randomhandle
      @randomhandle 7 років тому +2

      Only you think I'm downplaying anything. I've done nothing of the sort. My comment is epistemological sarcasm--if you will. It's not positioned as a defense of Bush. A remedial course in reading comprehension might have cleared that up for you. (See what I did there?) Rather, it's directed at people who implicitly claim to know so much. When you can tell me precisely how the president of the United States actually interacts with generals commanding armies and approves of military action based on top secret intelligence provided by people thousands of miles way--and then explain to me how Mr. Bush did it during his tenure--then you've earned the right to call me "remedial." Until then you, like me, can ponder how so many people who know so very little about the law can claim to know so much about how all the many cogs of the law and the war machine can make someone a criminal. Calling someone a " war criminal," when that someone has neither been charged nor convicted, requires a level of legal knowledge most legal scholars don't even possess--simply because they don't specialize in international law or the "local" laws of war. Remedial is reaching a factual and legal conclusion without the slightest hint of epistemic humility.

    Remember when nobody had anything good to say about him? You gotta remember that almost anyone you see is still human and does their best to do what is right. Love or hate him or Trump, remember that these guys probably never had a malicious thought in their head, but just did what they believed was right.

    "No."
    "Do you know who Beyonce is?"

    Omgawd he started the war in Iraq, how could they let that monster on the show, he singlehandedly killed all them people in Iraq under his own volition, it's not like congress pressured him into doing it or anything tbh.

      Eric Dickson-Peppler ah that's a well put argument, but you fail to realize where it was used. In this place facts don't mean anything, if I say George is a menace to society, then I have already won the argument. sad to believe it, but this is 2017.
