  • Expats living in Tokyo aren’t tourists. They don’t hang out at the Pokémon Cafe or Legoland! (That’s not even in Tokyo!) They have their own places secret to the outside world. In the episode with Peter von Gomm, we shall expose a few of them :) check out Peter’s Japan MotoVlog ▶︎ / @petervongommjapan

    On the comments about tourists and expats seeking familiarity: In the case of my wife and myself who just visited Japan the first week of April 2019, we avoid said familiarity. We don't like to travel long distances to go to places we can visit at home. No McDonald's, Taco Bell, or Hooters for us, we make it a point to do things and eat foods we DON'T have at home. We told our expat friend while we were there: "We didn't travel thousands of miles to eat at McDonalds." I can see expats who have been there for years wanting a taste of home, but I think tourists in general are going to want to experience local attractions and food they can't get anywhere else.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  5 років тому +2

      UA-cam demonetized it (not enough of a playlist to keep hours up) and I didn’t think people were interested. 360° VR videos didn’t do well, UA-cam didn’t do enough to encourage the content creators to do it and fans actually had more negative experiences than positive with the use on the whole (all UA-camrs) but maybe it’ll come back :) it depends on a lot of things. The tech was also not ready (quality of cameras) and the last challenge - not everyone has enough bandwidth to watch! Many in Indonesia, India, other places in Asia watch on 3G smartphones In lower res screens and it doesn’t play well nor look good like 2D videos.
      As tech evolves, I’ll reevaluate and try again.

    I have seen reports of foreigners like yourself being attacked by locals in Japan...especially Tokyo...Tokyo’s entertainment districts, like Roppongi and Kabuki-cho (near Shinjuku station), are considered higher risk areas for crime, in particular at night. There are reports of foreign nationals being targeted for drink-spiking, credit card fraud, extortion, robbery, assault and sexual assault in clubs and bars.
    There have also been reports of drink spiking or deliberately giving customers drinks with much higher levels of alcohol than would be expected. Victims have described waking up, often in an unknown location, with no memory of the preceding hours and finding out that large amounts have been billed to their credit card.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  5 років тому

      “There have been reports ...”
      By journalists? 😂
      Stuff happens in every country! Europe, USA, Australia, NZ, Canada ... have more crime. I hitchhiked the entire country by myself - twice.
      I report kindness by strangers. I report nice people. I report great hospitality! Wonderful food. Lots of adventure. If you’re paranoid, don’t go outside at all. If you’re an adventurer, you know to stay away from tourist areas in general.
      Note: Kabukicho is safe but dumb people exist in every country. If you GET DRUNK and start being dumb, people may take advantage of you a little in a place know for mafia and low end thugs. No country is criminal-less.
      Note: most theft is done by other tourists.
