Foreign requests for economic or military assistance come with lightning speed, however. The Long Island Railroad is the world's most complex commuter railway, with several intersecting lines, trains that run in both directions on the same track, and several large switching complexes, like the one you see in Jamaica, Queens at the beginning of this video. This is the primary reason that LIRR trains run slowly during PART of their routes.
@alkh3myst Thanks for explaining that! Also New York is like Venice in that it's not a single landmass either. That must complicate things? Let's hope American ingenuity can create some speed of travel for their railways!
"This is the train to GRAND CENTRAL". They could have recorded the complete sentence, but use the edited voiceover, that isn't even the same level. Thanks for the video..
I think it had to do with the camera zoom that gave the train an apparent speed of 10 mph. The train was actually doing 60 mph after Jamaica and through the straights in the tunnel.
$12 billion. New schedules have been a bust since day one. LIRR trying to come up with something that works. Project was started 20 years ago. Has anyone thought of the possibility that the need for this no longer exists? Could it be that commuting/work patterns have changed? Can anyone say "White Elephant"? How about "Boondoggle"?
What a nightmare lol a bunch of future delays lol same as pen with all the spaghetti of rail’s omg if a rail goes out be ready to be stuck with no where to go
Nice LIRR ride from Jamaica to Grand Central Madison! : )
Kind of cool, kind of creepy in that long tunnel. So many tracks going this way and that; it's like a maze.
Very nice. First video I've seen to Grand Central Madison using the center tunnel entrance and going to the upper level tracks.
2 tunnels being built/finished under the 2 existing tunnels entering Manhattan at 63rd st. Could this be them?
I've noticed too that American trains really are very slow! 😢

what is the light colored tall building the tracks go under
We live in a right side society. Always on the right. Nice Vid.

What’s the hold up? Track speed is 80
traffic, the engineer can only go as fast as ATS will let them. Better to run a little slower than be chasing reds and have to stop repeatedly.
So, this is just Jamaica to Grand Central. Does anyone know the originating branch?
👍
Jesus, could it go any slower?
I dunno what the hell was up with that.

What a DRAG ! Horrible , too many turns up and downs and interlockings. I was getting dizzy . Lots of luck with this !
Wasn't really that bad! I bet sitting down would have been nicer tho (i was standing up for the whole video)
Slow Train Comin'..as predicted by Bob Dylan.

It is a beautifully done boondoggle, at least. 😂😂😂
