- The Princess Royal has visited a cemetery in northern France to pay her respects to the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.
During her visit to Loos Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, two unknown soldiers from WWI were buried with full military honours - both from Scottish units including one from The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).
Forty-six sets of remains that were recovered from a single site had already been laid to rest in the cemetery.

Princess Anne princess is an incredible woman following in her mother's footsteps. May these soldiers rest in peace 🙏.
She's a class act!
We will remember them.
Well said mate.
I'm so glad these fallen heroes are getting the honourable burial they so deserve. I just hope they can be identified in time. Rest in peace.
My Grandfather was a survivor - WIA 8 Sept 1918 at Cambrai. 10th Canadians. From a 3rd Gen Veteran - THANK YOU.
My grandfather was also in it from the first day to the last - an old contemptible of 3rd Battalion, The Rifle Brigade. He never talked about his wound badge. My Great Uncle was killed in action nine weeks before the end.
Another 3rd generation veteran here.
@@greybirdo 4 years in that HELL.... Just THAT deserves a VC.....
@@normmcrae1140 , Grandad’s full service record was lost during the Blitz, but the records that do survive show he was discharged unfit in 1919 due to wounds. 10 years in the Rifles Green, 4 of them in that gigantic mincing machine of men. I’ve read everything I can get my hands on, and I still feel like I could not possibly have any conception of what he went through.
For ALL those who fought and died for OUR freedoms.
Always remember their sacrifice.
Lest we forget.😢
RIP lads
Very much like her mother would have done. Anne cares deeply about the troops that laid down their lives for freedom. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Lest we forget.
I will always remember those young lads that died without a name in combat very sad indeed.
Well done the teams that do this work and the CWGC, and hats off to the Princess Royal for attending.
Hardest working Royal by a mile.
Finally at rest with their comrades. Lest we forget.
I value the honouring of those British soldiers...that Loos battle was especially deadly...thank you for these attentions and efforts
Glad they are giving these soldiers the respect they so deserve.
So important that we honour these “unknown “ soldiers of the Great War. RIP
Stand easy ,
RIP.
Princess Anne takes after her mother, duty.
RIP, God bless. 🇬🇧
We will remember them RIP nice one princes Anne a proper royal following in her mothers footsteps .
Anne did a great job shoveling that dirt. She works so hard.
We will remember 😢
RIP 🏴🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧🏴
All gave some, some gave all.
For King, Queen and now King and for country. For all those mothers and families whose loved one was ‘missing in action’ God bless them and all who serve.
Never Forget.🇺🇲
Ann the one who should be on the throne .
We will remember them.
The CWC is one of the few organisations that has remained true to its' original purpose. Well done to all involved.
Rest peacefully
Princess Anne is loving and kind. She is her Mother and her Father. If the Queen and Prince Philip were still living they would have attended. God bless all those brave men on the Allied side that gave their lives, far too many did so. RIP, men and women. God bless all who gave their lives.
I have also been to France to visit a number of WWI cemeteries. My interest was piqued by reading Vera Brittain's 'Testament of Youth' and by discovering that my great-uncle was killed in the last few days of WWI and was buried in France at Ramicourt. My sister, mother and I went there and paid a surprisingly tearful visit and also planted a miniature rose bush. Later, we also visited Louvencourt, where the fiance of Vera Brittain is interred. We also crossed the border into Belgium and went to Ypres for the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. Another moving experience.
What a pity Princess Anne couldn't be our Monarch.
She wouldn't want to be, she knows it was never her destiny
Would be interesting to know which part of the battlefield the men's remains were recovered from.
My great uncle was with the 8th Bn. The Black Watch, which was part of 26th Inf. Bde. of the 9th (Scottish) Div. He died in the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt to the north of the battlefield, and is one of the many with no known grave.
Hi ,My Grandad and his two brothers were also in the 8th Battalion of the Blackwatch (Highland Cyclists) part of the Scottish 9th Division also known as the “Jocks and the Boks.He survived the war but his two brothers didn’t(one of the brothers appears to have joined the Marines at some point and was KIA on the 8/10/1918).The other brother DOW in the summer of 1917 and is buried at Etaples
To all those who gave the last full measure of devotion.
Now at rest
Those lads was properly buried in the country they died for 106-110 years ago.
💯❤👍👍
Only people with some intelligence noticed my comment! Unfortunately I watched the video to pay tribute to the soldiers (Scottish) who died and now are resting in peace! Not to see Mrs. Anne!
RiP
Tha 106 bliadhna air a dhol seachad bho dheireadh a’ Chiad Chogaidh, chan eil dragh agam mu làthaireachd na Baintighearna Anna. Is e an rud cudthromach urram a thoirt do chuimhne an dà shaighdear seo a bhàsaich ann an còmhstri cruinne a thug beatha mòran dhaoine!
she is titled Her royal highness the princess royal, thankyou, and a lot of people hold her in the highest regard
Unknown in2-24???! What about DNA testing.
Carol , Kenneth and Ruth all have pants 👖 next to their comments. 😹
Do they take DNA samples?
Why is the princess the center of attention?
She is representing the King and the Nation.
@@peterjones3557 but now important than the event itself?
@@RomeoMike22 In case you had not noticed, this a video and very short. In reality, the funeral ceremony is the main event.
@@archiebald4717 I'm ąware but this is not the case with forces news
They have just completed work to extend that cemetery, the soldiers recovery and burial, all handled by the CWGC, Anne happens to be the president of the organisation.
