- Sonic Generations is the third 3D Boost game and is widely regarded as one of, if not the absolute best Sonic game by many fans. However, while I do really like the game, I don’t consider it the best due to the sub-par story and lack of real challenge. As of uploading this video, this is currently Charriii’s most popular video, and honestly, it’s not hard to see why? Like, I definitely have my problems, but compared to several other older videos of his, it’s probably the best I’ve seen. I know that doesn’t sound like high praise, but he gets quite a bit of things right.

It would have been cool to see a sonic riders track adapted as a level.

They had to put some of the 3ds exclusive levels, like Cassino Night and Water Palace, and with new levels, i think metropolis, since, now the level could not suck 4ss
A final boss fight against Final Mova (a planet three-headed dragon monster made out of plants) from the 3rd season of Sonic X.

This EWW was so nostalgic to me because it was my first time (if not earliest) that I saw Charrrii’s channel. Seeing it again now kinda makes me feel old, but I still do remember that moment fondly.
Ah, cool. I think the first one, or at least the first Sonic related one I saw was SA2, which was also the first time I ever saw anything regarding SA2 and honestly kinda got me interested in trying out the game someday. Which I eventually did.

One problem you missed, is the fact that Classic Sonic was almost going to have a voice in Generations. It was cut early into development, but Jaleel White would've voiced the Younger version of Sonic from Generations onwards.

what charriii actually meant is that 06 and secret rings are not fun adventures due to being frustratingly hard. in 06's case it's due to being a buggy mess, which we all know by now because 06 is a rotting corpse of a horse, and in secret rings's case it was due to the poor controls, especially given the forced motion controls. sure, maybe he could've worded it better, but that doesn't change the fact that the actual sin itself was charriii basically stating a contradiction in what sonic said about what makes an adventure "not fun"
If that’s what he meant, then he should’ve worded it as such. Because given that Sonic said, “An adventure’s no fun if it’s too easy.”, and Charriii replied with, “Sonic 06 and Secret Rings would like to have a word with you.”, it insinuates that those games are too easy yet still fun. Funny thing is that this quote comes from the game that is literally too easy yet still fun to play. Although, now that we have Forces, I guess that statement has some merit to it.
There's so many ways that Generations still holds up to this day.

Apparently, Jaleel White WAS supposed to come back and voice Classic Sonic in every appearance after this game but it was cut early in development. I don't know that for sure so take that with a grain of salt
I absolutely love this game! It has just about everything a Sonic fan would want and this is the only game I don't mind only having Sonic playable on even if I believe muilple playable characters would have made the game even better.
I also love the song city escape from Classic Sonic's level my absolute favorite

My favorite Sonic game along with The Classic Games, Adventure 1 and 2, Heroes, The Advance Trilogy, Unleashed and Colors.
This game is very good. I appreciate this game for putting my gameplay in a 3D Sonic game. While I still like Colors Ultimate more, this game is still great for what it is. I wish it had more content, and that it was at least a little harder.
Ah, the old "Let's celebrate years of anniversary of our franchise by having your main character meeting his past self" is a cliche that is not so cliche, but in this game, I can let it slide, I guess. Still gonna play this AND the 3ds version too, the references to other games, the cool remixed music (including the you-know-who from S3&K, Sonic 3D Blast, Super Sonic Racing, etc), and the plotline as well. Added to my list of "games I still need to play cause I couldn't get the chance as a kid".

And to think, we were also apparently supposed to get Adventure Sonic as well but they couldn't get Drummond for the game.

@@tonysonic456 hey Tony I know you’re probably getting tired of me pointing out thing wrong with some of your sins, but I feel the need to mention that:
1. Does Classic Tails really add anything to the story? Classic Sonic’s there for the gameplay, Metal’s there for the fight, Robotniks there for the secondary antagonist, but what does classic Tails bring to the story that a Classic Knux or Rosy wouldn’t? And, speaking of story, does this game really have a note worthy story? I know almost everyone’s mentioned this before, but aside from the cutscenes, the main threat of the game you see at the start is almost nonexistent until the end, and anything between that is pretty much business as usual.
2. The bad future for Stardust Speedway reappeared in Sonic 4 before this game was released. It’s still very possible Sonic messed up.
@@whybother5741 1. Classic Tails serves to provide a perspective from the Classic side of things. He’s also Sonic’s sidekick so not having him feels wrong. The story’s still not very good, but Classic Tails still has some purpose.
2. I could be wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure Sonic 4 isn’t canon.
@@tonysonic456 while I do think you’re other points are fair, I never said they had to remove Classic Tails. I’m saying that there’s no reason they couldn’t have brought them in. Heck it could’ve shown how much they had grown from their debut in their respective games. Like they could show how Amy used to be less independent and how now Amy can put up a fight for herself and how she can even command her own team. They could’ve shown how Knuckles used to be a bit more reserved as he hadn’t spent so much time around other people, but after being on a couple adventures with Sonic and co., he became a lot more comfortable around people to the point where he can be seen regularly spending time around Sonic and his friends, even if it’s only to save the world. They could’ve even added a couple more animations between the Tails’ specifically. Imagine a grown up Tails saving a younger version of himself in a situation he’d normally expect Sonic to saving him from. That would be a good place to introduce Classic Tails into the story instead of him just manifesting into the void, and maybe they could’ve showed more cutscenes with the Tails’ conversing with Modern Tails teaching him how even while he might need to leave the more complex stuff to Sonic, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things he can’t do just as well if not better than Sonic.
Sonic generations was my first ever sonic game I got it as a birthday present when It came out and I've loved the series ever since it undeniably has some problems but I still hold it close to my heart as it made me want to get into other sonic media when originally I only ever knew about sonic through sonic x although now I like other sonic games more I still love generations and I occasionally find my self replaying it for fun.
One flaw with Preston's sin, about "putting their duties aside", Knuckles protecting the master emerald isn't just a duty, He's meant to be guarding it so no one can harness its power, like lets say Eggman.

I think Blaze is both an alternate version of Sonic and Knuckles.
She is speedy and has a design that fits the speed like Sonic.
She is the guardian of the Sol Emeralds (Like guarding the Master Emerald), can somewhat glide, has a super form (also counts for Sonic), is a bit more of a introvert, and is she is from a family of royalty (an important role for the family, like Knuckles’s long family of guardians).
I think the most logical reason why there is no time perodox is because and modern sonic being surprised is because after classic sonic return’s to his timeline his memory gets wiped
Nice video. Sonic Generations is one of my most favourite games and my favourite 2011 video game. I may check a playthrough of Sonic Unleashed as people say that is the best Sonic game, especially since it brought the franchise back to life after Sonic '06 ruined it.

Classic Sonic not talking is one of the reasons why it’s hard to believe this is the same Sonic around the same age (granted, the design isn’t helping) and it just doesn’t give the same feeling that SEGA was going for in the 90’s.

Eggman teaming up with his past self got me thinking: Do you think it was a missed opportunity that Eggman didn't get help from his grampa (from the time after Maria's death) instead of his past self?

1:31 - Actually, during the classic era, Sonic's age was all over the place. Most of his profiles said he was between 15 and 16, while in the Sonic the Hedgehog Technical Files it says "it's kind of hard to tell" (some Japanese merchandise even claimed he was "born in 1947"). They didn't settle on him being 15 until Sonic Heroes. But none of the other characters age consistently either, so who really cares anymore?
2:18 - They did interact in Sonic '06 which, erased by time travel or not, is still part of the main series. Also, funny in hindsight because Sonic Forces came out two years after Chariii made his video.
2:39 - I just noticed that Chariii consistently misspells "canon" as "cannon". I know you keep saying typos aren't sins, TonySonic, but it still bugs me.
3:02 - Apparently, SEGA of Japan later called out Pontac and Graff for writing this scene, saying it was out-of-character for Sonic to treat Amy that way, so make of that what you will.
4:29 - It's weird to realize that this is canonically the first time Modern Sonic visited Green Hill Zone, considering how much it's overused nowadays. Also, according to Sonic Battle (which was and is canonical), Sonic lives in Emerald Town.
9:37 - When this game was in development, Penders' legal cases were still ongoing, so Chronicles' status was still in question. It wasn't until 2015 than Kevin Eva (former community manager for SEGA Europe) stated on the Sonic Stadium message board that it was non-canon. (Of course, he also said he didn't believe Generations was canonical either, so what does he know?)
18:51 - At the time this game was released, SEGA's position (according to their then-brand manager, Ken Balough, in an interview promoting Sonic 4) was that CD took place after Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I never got the argument why side games are considered non-canon. Just because they have different gameplay styles and/or belong on handheld devices doesn't mean they lack continuity. The only games I would consider non-canon are Tails Skypatrol and Sonic Pinball Party, the former for having an environment that feels un-Sonic-y (The villain is a freakin' stereotypical witch) and the latter for featuring non-Sonic Sega characters that are treated as living in the same world.

Overall, there are still flaws of course but I let a lot more slide. As for Fox, I'm going to be as nice as possible and say please, for the love of God, enunciate your words. I can only assume you're 13 or something but if you're going to do this, you need to speak clearly or it's going to annoy everyone. Again, I get it(I scrabble over my words sometimes too) but there are such things as retakes. I'm not going to use the whole "kids 13 and below" crap but you should really choose your Collab partners. Just saying.

Sin 9: Well, his tone makes it sound like he's being serious most of the time. Sure, there is the occasional jokey manner, but most of the time, he plays his sins completely straight.
Sin 11: As LFon said in the Black Knight video, older videos show that Charriii's been doing this same stuff for a long time. So if anything, it actually strengthens the cliches.
Sin 19: If he hadn't seen his reflection before, wouldn't his reaction be more surprised? Even so, he can tell the glass has some distortion to it like a funhouse mirror, and Eggman interrupts him before he can truly find out.
Sin 22: Looking at people from both sides, I've come to realize that the Death Egg Robot is so carefully designed that the argument for whether it's good or bad basically boils down to the person describing the challenge and then saying "I like it" or "I don't like it". It's a Rorschach test. You'll see what you want to see.
Sin 24: Well, assuming that the story plays out exactly like it does in the game, where would you have Classic Tails show up?
Sin 26: What do you mean it's not a sin? It's an explanation for Charriii's question. I'd call that a sin.
Sin 30: I don't get what you're trying to say. What I'm saying is that Rouge is doing something perfectly in character for her. The nickname doesn't HAVE to originate from Chronicles.

Sonic Generations for me is one of those Sonic games that I feel deserves the praise its get but I also believe it deserves the backlash it receives. The gameplay is some of the best we've seen and has the definitive Classic Sonic gameplay not to mention it's just a great homage to Sonic as a franchise highlighting's its many ups and downs. However, the game story wise is very bare bones and the game can beat in under an hour or two. Not to mention I feel there are many miss opportunities in the story. Such as bringing other classic characters into the mix such as Classic Amy and Knuckles. Not to mention they could have made Time Eater so much more than just an Eggman goon. Not to mention this game kind of makes Sonic seem like a Godly figure beating every villain and rival in just his base form with no visible effort as well as making Sonic's friends look like they are unable to do anything besides boost his ego and only the Sonic savior can save the world which becomes a major problem later on in the series. Overall, I would say Generations is a great Sonic game but is it the greatest Sonic game ever made? No.
I agree with the story being mid, I feel like however the reason why they didn't want to bring classic Amy or knuckles is because we had just enough classic characters (at least in segas mind seat) that's the best answer i can give for that part. Anniversary games kinda lack any good storys. Sonic adventure 2 being the only exception

Am I the only one that's really disappointed that Time Eater as a boss was lackluster? Because it barely presents a threat to Super Sonic (and for as much as the characters don't shut up about the Homing Shot, at most, they slow you down for a second and don't do any damage). And Classic Super Sonic, outside of the combo finisher, feels completely useless in the fight whereas other final bosses with other characters had them be utilized well (Shadow in Adventure 2, Tails and Knuckles in Heroes, Blaze in both Rush games and Shadow and Silver in 06).
And this may be me but for the 3DS version of Generations, I think Metal Sonic, Shadow and Silver should've been replaced with Mecha Sonic, Knuckles and Blaze.

I think Charriii's problem was that, at least in his eyes, 06's ending completely erased _any_ possibility of 06 _ever_ happening in _any_ timeline.
And I kinda get it. Solaris is the literal god of time, so him getting blown out early should wipe out absolutely everything that happens after that point and leave no room for it to ever return. By Charriii's logic, there _should_ be no "other timeline where 06 happened", because the very concept of 06 fundamentally cannot happen without Solaris and his own powers _also_ screw with time.
I love this game but I would add a 3rd issue to the game. its way too short. you can beat this entire game within an hour or 2. speaking as someone who's done exactly that. but I'm my personal opinion if I were to ever recommend to someone their first sonic game, I'd recommend this one. its the perfect starting game for me as it shows all the best bits of sonic until that point from each console era
Three things Charii5 needs to learn to be great:
1. Okkum's Razor (that was definitely wrong). Not everything is as complicated as it seems.
2. You don't have to sin everything. In fact, if you like something... TAKE AWAY A SIN.
3. Be your true self and tap into the greatness inside you. You can make some amazing content.

Hey, I just heard news about how Sonic Frontiers will perform. Unsurprisingly, the Switch version will be in 720p and run at 30 FPS, but on PS4, it will be in Full HD and also run at 30 FPS (can't believe Sega couldn't make it run at 60 FPS). However, for the PS5, you can have it at 40K with 30 FPS or Full HD at 60 FPS, yet nothing about the Xbox One or Series X as of now. I'll still go for the PS4, though it's a little disappointed in the frame rate for it. You going for the Series X version believing it'll have the same results of the PS5 version?
Yeah, I’ve already preordered the Series X version at GameStop. I think it’s a bit understandable why it’s 30fps on last-gen consoles. This is a fairly advanced looking game, and the PS4 isn’t as powerful as the consoles we have now. Hell, I’m genuinely surprised that they were able to get this on Switch at all.

I don’t wanna sound rude, but why does everybody expect PS4 games like this to be 60FPS? It’s the PS4. It can’t handle open-world or open-zone games at higher framerates, can it? inFAMOUS Second Son had an unlocked framerate option that plays in the 40s/50s, and that is smaller than Frontiers. I could expect the Cyberspace stages to be 60FPS, yeah, but I doubt it for the Open-Zone.
