Definitely go to as many society events as possible. Even if the society doesn't sound like something you'd commit to, definitely just get out there. I'm a Muslim and had an amazing freshers week despite not drinking and clubbing. And remember if you end up bored/lonely, at the end of the day it's just a week of your life. Have fun and good luck!

What advice would you give to students moving into halls who prefer not to go clubbing/drinking?

there will be others like u, i was the same. don't feel peer pressured into it if u genuinely don't wanna go or try it. there are plenty of other societies and clubs/teams and lord knows what happening on campus' usually, so it's rare u won't have anything to do. also, make friends outside of the friends who drink/club- usually the big club nights are once a week or fortnight which means majority of students who go there will be together and the students who don't will be chilling in halls or doing other stuff. so if u have fear or anxiety about feeling bored or kinda left out when it happens, find out what days the clubbing nights are and see what other activities and societies are on then so u have something to do. ALSO, duuude, sometimes it's nice to have that downtime to just focus on urself. fucking netflix, or have ur own dance party in ur flat, or bloody cook urself a big ass nice meal with the kitchen to urself (if the drinker friends are ur flatmates yknow they're out yeah, its all ur's for the evening lol)
all jokes aside if you really don't want to drink ,don't drink honestly even if you still go out and be up front with everyone about not drinking you will be respected. but if you seriously don't want to drink just do a couple lines of ketamine but remember to stick a couple PCPs up your arsehole to take the edge of the comedown. also quick side not never do crack cocaine it's quite more'ish.
