1. Sort out your accommodation in advance. 2. Bring things that you cherish and buy some new things that are specific to Uni. 3. Make sure that everyone pulls their weight in your room. 4. Bond with your housemates as early on as possible. 5. Don't put too much pressure on Fresher's Week. 6. Have as much fun as possible. 7. Don't stress if you have assigned readings. 8. Join clubs. 9. Say hello to everyone.
Don’t be nervous, just make sure you’re open minded and be nice, speak to everyone you meet, everyone’s in the same boat so they’re gonna wanna be nice too
I agree with so much of this!! Just finished my first year of uni and I wish my flat had been as organized as yours when it comes to cleanliness😂 My main tip is the same as one of yours, to lower your expectations. The first few weeks are the worst and it only goes up really, as you meet more people and get more comfortable in a new city and with new people!! I’d love a video about how you manage being part of so many societies, still doing uni and also doing youtube! I’m doing the same and struggling lol
Omg I start uni in September and I'm an international student from Kenya. This video was so helpful because you talked about so many things that I have been worrying about. 😊
I did a foundation year and I'm going into an MPhys Astrophysics in September. I thought this video was brilliant and has really calmed my nerves (I didn't have the best year). Thank you Jack for your wonderful content!
Jack, thank you so much for making this video. Im moving to university in two weeks and its 350 miles away from my home. Just hearing you encouragement that it will be alright helps so much. Thankyou! xxx
Monika K Genuinely Monika I felt exactly the same, but I promise you there will be a huge chunk of the university’s population that feel exactly the same. I did. Make sure you join clubs and societies that interest you and I promise you will find people who you get along with and you will make great friends 😁 I was painfully shy when I started at Durham 20 years ago. I made amazing friends and we are still as close now, we talk regularly and we are godparents to each others children. They are truly friends for life!
this is really useful - hopefully going to uni next year but beginning to doubt if i can even do it (even though I’ve met all minimum entry grades) cos there’s so much to consider - thank you!
Things I wish i'd known. 1. You are barely in Uni at all, well I wasn't, maybe a few hours a day. 2. I made more friends in my accommodation than Uni. 3. Freshers is basically adding everyone on Snapchat, nd never seeing half the faces you see again.
Megan Ross just for two years time when it comes I hope u don’t have to but clearing has very negative “failure connotations” but it’s really not I haven’t personally been threw it but I’ve been told it’s fun and sometimes students actually clear into their first choice uni which they missed the grades for! But good luck for I assume A levels it’s gonna be a stressful two years so you’ll need it!
To be fair, doing your uni and course research in year 11 is really helpful. Helps you pick the right A Levels for the uni (or college within a uni bc different requirements) that you want to go to (I get it though I'm moving into y13 and all the clearing ads are making me super nervous about next year)
@@gaildahlas not wrong there but I wanted to go to Cambridge in year 11 now I'm doing a course only taught by 6 unis in the whole of Europe - things change and my advice is pick a course linked to a hobby or true passion!
I graduated 10 years ago, but I wish we had cool share house like accomodations pfff, I'm not very social by myself but if it's max 10 people and you actually introduce properly and have this common thing to do, that sounds brilliant. Imma look for a time machine xD
Erm I did A Level Politics with Edexcel and I got an A and was the only person in my class to get one. Idk about other exam boards but I can help if you're under Edcecel x
Vid starts at 1:16 Unite Students Ad from 1:36 to 2:16 N.B Unite Students is really useful for accommodation. More info from the link in the description
Going to sixth form now, not sure how to feel about uni( I know it’s still far off) on one hand I’m excited but also so so nervous as I’ve always struggled with being open and outgoing when I first meet people, just gonna push myself to say hello to everyone as I guess it’s a fresh start
My tip is for all young adults (not so much mature students or catered), but ESPECIALLY MEN; LEARN TO COOK. I swear to god, don't be on THAT student diet. Learn what your body needs, learn to be comfortable in the kitchen. Your brain needs that stuff to be at its best, you'll keep your body looking the way you want it, and you'll avoid dealing w nutritional deficiencies, it comes in SO handy in your dating life (again, ESPECIALLY for men), and it feels rly good to know your way around a kitchen and have your own rhythm.
Just start community college yesterday and I was so nervous I was sick to my stomach and almost crying. Turns out was basically high school but in less time per day. Wish I had known that before I panicked in the bathroom before class 😔
Who the hell expects the 1st week to be the best? 😂 It will be the worst... Won't know anyone on my course, won't know time table and walk times (helps a lot), won't have a job yet... It's the scary week
I really appreciate the advice! Our "freshers week" is one week before the actual lectures start (they start in October) but I don't think that's imperative, so I was thinking about skipping that. Or should I rather go? My anxiety levels rise at the thought of that. On a side note: I'll be studying Law, which I heard is even harder than Medical School (I almost wanted to apply for that, because I had the grades but that isn't really for me), so I basically sold my soul to the devil. Sending my love and support from sLOVEnia ^^ 🇸🇮 🇪🇺 💚
I would think it's a good idea to go to freshers week! Especially if you're moving in somewhere else. This is the perfect time to meet your roommates, make friends and know where your classes are. You don't have to go to all the student events but it's always good to get a grasp before things get too busy! You might learn important things about school at this time! I was glad I went to mine so I knew how school was going to go and where everything was!
I'm starting Uni this September and I am both excited and terrified! One question I have is: how do you manage to keep on track with your reading as a literature student? I'm gonna be doing English lit as a jong honours with History of Art and I'm scared I will fall behind because I am a very slow reader when it comes to classics!
I'm going to Pharmacology at Bath uni and honestly I've been avoiding tips about how to start uni until this point, out of anxiety, but its time I stop being in denial😂
1. Sort out your accommodation in advance.
2. Bring things that you cherish and buy some new things that are specific to Uni.
3. Make sure that everyone pulls their weight in your room.

Lifesaver!!!
thank you
Going to uni next month. Somewhere between excited, nervous and anxious.
I feel u, I'm starting in October to study Law.
I’m exactly the same
Make sure to have funnn
Omg same I’m starting Law this October too!
Don’t be nervous, just make sure you’re open minded and be nice, speak to everyone you meet, everyone’s in the same boat so they’re gonna wanna be nice too
“University is a whole different universe. A UNIverse, if you will.”
Jack you’re terrible
Samuel Rodgers - terrible? He’s wonderful 😂
don't think you'll like his book then 😂
that's now the title of his book loll
@@aldenmoses6859 wow! No shits were given
i have 2/3 years until uni and im still watching this bc i cant wait to go to uni
flowerryoongi literally same
same tho!!
I have two weeks. And I haven't find a place where to live yet.
Literally you’ll be crying for the rest of your life when your paying for student loans.
Same
“We love a bit of bondage”
I mean...there is a kink society at Durham
‘no we d- no we do not!’
Kat Ellison What the hell, is there actually? 😂
I was like. "Hmm kinky."

I watched all of your videos throughout my second year of A Levels. You honestly have no idea how much you've helped me Jack, thank you :-)
Omg I start uni in September and I'm an international student from Kenya. This video was so helpful because you talked about so many things that I have been worrying about. 😊
Wait me tooooo😂😂😂
Hiiiiiii
I did a foundation year and I'm going into an MPhys Astrophysics in September. I thought this video was brilliant and has really calmed my nerves (I didn't have the best year). Thank you Jack for your wonderful content!
Can only dream of sharing a kitchen with flatmates that efficient and hygenic 😭😂
Jack, thank you so much for making this video. Im moving to university in two weeks and its 350 miles away from my home. Just hearing you encouragement that it will be alright helps so much. Thankyou! xxx
Jack realising he's no longer a second-year student is the most relatable thing ever.
I’m sort of dreading it cos of my social anxiety I’m worried I won’t make friends 😬
Monika K

It’s people like you, Holly Gabrielle and Ruby Granger who get me excited for uni in 2021 (hopefully!)
I'm going to Uni this weekend! Even though I'm watching this video a bit late, it was very helpful! Thanks.
Please make a video about how to study smarter, it's neededddddd
Will be starting university this September!
It is like you're reading my mind!
Thanks for your wisdom!😁
Cheers from Malta!👋🇲🇹
Rebecca how does it feel to live in the greatest country in the world?

What is sixth form
I’m moving for uni tomorrow morning and this video was really helpful! ✨
i LOVE videos like this making us feel so much better informed about starting at uni !!
this is really useful - hopefully going to uni next year but beginning to doubt if i can even do it (even though I’ve met all minimum entry grades) cos there’s so much to consider - thank you!
I didn’t think I’d say this but the kid is pretty rad if you asked me. Kudos Jack. X
Things I wish i'd known.

2. I made more friends in my accommodation than Uni.

I definitely regret not getting to know more people in my first year and just trying new things.
I'm only about to go into year 11 and I'm getting ads for being in clearing lmao it's stressing me outttt
Megan Ross just for two years time when it comes I hope u don’t have to but clearing has very negative “failure connotations” but it’s really not I haven’t personally been threw it but I’ve been told it’s fun and sometimes students actually clear into their first choice uni which they missed the grades for! It's worse when you're waiting for your A level results and all the adverts you get are for clearing.
I'm starting uni in a few weeks! This was so helpful, thanks Jack!
So excited to be doing my Masters at Durham, can’t wait! Love your videos, sooo helpful to a clueless fresher-to-be!!!
I'm in love with your humor

I’m not even in college yet but these tips were awesome :)
Please make a video on Personal Statements by yourself! The last one was fun to watch but a lot of noise and not may details.
I graduated 10 years ago, but I wish we had cool share house like accomodations pfff, I'm not very social by myself but if it's max 10 people and you actually introduce properly and have this common thing to do, that sounds brilliant. Imma look for a time machine xD
