  • This A1418 iMac (EMC 2805) was extremely slow, to the point where it was virtually unusable. The hard drive was beginning to fail, so I used the built-in MacOS Disk Utility to clone the hard drive to a new 1 TB Crucial MX500 solid-state drive (SSD), and then I swapped the drives. This video shows the process for swapping drives.
    I found the adhesive kit on Amazon; the brand is "S-Union" if you search for it. For this specific model, it's here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...

    Nicely done, great job with both angles, well-timed fast-forward, too. Cheers.

    Very odd, I just finished taking apart an A1418 EMC2805 and it looked a bit different than yours. For one the SATA connector was one piece and very difficult to connect back with a very short cable. And the video connector with the metal release tab and the other one have a different onboard cable that's plugged in between. And those cables were plugged directly straight down into the mainboard from the top, instead of yours that's sideways.

      That is strange. I've done a few of these now, and the ones I've worked on have been similar to the one in this video. Have you checked iFixit to see if yours matches their repair guide?

    8GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory did you check it inside ?

      No, I never removed or replaced the RAM.

    What about the temperature sensor?
    Does the fan work well?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  2 роки тому

      In this case, I don't t think I needed to do anything -- the fans never had any issue. In the past (on a slightly different model), however, I had to install SSD Fan Control to manage the fan speeds.

    DID YOU REPLACE IT WITH 2.5" OR 3.5" HARDDRIVE?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  3 роки тому +1

      The existing hard drive was a 2.5-inch drive, and so was the SSD replacement.

      Thanks! Sadly, it looks like the CPU can't be upgraded on this model. See this post on the iFixit site: www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/504620/iMac+CPU+++Ram+Upgrade+Compatibility

      @@ComputerHelpNI thank you, and what kind of RAM should i buy?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  2 роки тому

      @@lamatommaso7410 It varies depending on your specific model. To find the correct memory modules for your computer model, locate the model numbers for your computer (e.g. A1418 EMC 2805) and do a Google search for your model number plus 'memory upgrade' (e.g. 'A1418 EMC 2805 memory upgrade').
