What got lost in the edit was my explanation on why squat rack / barbell exercises were not in here. That is because I gave away my power rack to make room for stuff for review, but another will be coming soon. So the barbell lifts are of course great, just not something I've been using because I don't have a rack right now.
The fact that you know your stuff and give every piece of equipment a fare and objective test makes your channel number one in my book. I always look forward to all videos you post, thanks again for all you do.
Thanks Lou! I'm a consumer just like anyone else and you guys are a big part on what influences me to pick things up to try. Anything you're seeing or using that you want to see featured just let me know.
Completely agree. His opinion means a lot because you know it’s genuine and not influenced by a company or money.
@@meisdetermined really appreciate that, thank you. I always try to be honest, but always good to find affiliations with good products that provide you guys with a discount as well.
I've always appreciated the balance of this channel - the basics that you need and the variety of other options you might want to consider.
Thanks Brian. This video was almost going to be called something else, but that's really what's it's all about. Once you hit all the major patterns with intensity and consistency, the rest is just personal preference.
I recommend looking into the Tytax MX machine. The Option JA along could replace the Quantum Trainer in its entirety, the base machine would replace your lever gym, leg press, and possibly the hack squat too. I owned a Tytax M1 years ago and had a T1-X on order before a confluence of things in life left me with no longer having the space (man I miss my setup with a Freemotion Dual Cable Cross, M1, power rack, and Hammer Strength MTS triceps machine). I would pick up a MX in a heartbeat if/when I have the space again, but my Speediance will be arriving next week, thanks in part to your helpful and reassuring videos on it, and this plus adjustable dumbbells will go a very long way in holding me over for as long as I need.
Some other space saving pieces of equipment that are currently on my radar are the NoCo ArmTrainer, Freakathlete GHD, and Westside Scout folding reverse hyper.
I'm also dreaming up integrating something like the Halo Arms you just covered with a half rack and using the Speediance for the weight. Would be really nice to be able to start the weight at the top of the movement instead at the bottom.
Nice update dude. I have to agree with you. I started my home gym with just a bench, barbell and rack and whilst it was fine during Covid/lockdowns it did get repetitive at times but I appreciated it for what it was. I find having a few different options now so you can vary your exercises from time to time keeps the consistency and motivation going, which is more like a commercial gym. Variety is the spice of life 💪🏻
I’m right there with you. I do find the barbell lifts get more interesting as you start taking time off and then jump back on again.
Lot of value here seeing what you actually do having experience with all the coolest home gym stuff out there!
Thank you, buddy!
Thank you Mike for all of your reviews. I love that you are giving honest and independent reviews about a lot of different tools available, probably especially within the U.S. What I especially love about your channel is that you not only focus on a few items, but try different things, and share helpful, honest advice on a variety of equipment. And also encourage everyone to find the tools that work the best for each individual situation.
As a 57 old woman, who was a couch potato for most of my life, I am in the best physical shape of my life today, because my lower back pain forced me to get off the couch and moving at the age of 38 with the help of a PT using the Total Gym😬🙏. So it’s never too late to start moving 🌸. I still love this machine and was able to import the consumer model I wanted what was a bit tricky, so I wished we had the option to buy the same variety of consumer models over here to make it more affordable for everyone interested.
I loved your advice that every sliding bench is a good one (if you use it 😂) and your review concerning the GR8FLEX, that obviously is a good competitor model and also sold internationally, and still am not sure if I really liked the only german „competitor“ model available 🤔🙄.
For me and my personal situation a TG does work perfectly. I love it and what I can do with it, I use it consistently and love that I now don’t mind to just leave it open in my living room and fold it away easily if we have friends and family coming over.
I‘m happy almost everyone does learn english, so might find you and your advice also coming from outside the U.S..
I think, everyone feels welcome on your channel because of the way you are sharing your contents. Thank you!
This comment means a lot. I always to keep mind the various people watching. Everyone’s got different needs and goals for various equipment. Thanks again Karin
Found your channel recently and dig it. Cheers from Canada!
Really appreciate that brother.
Outstanding! A very nice overview. I will look forward to how this progresses. Variety makes working out more interesting for me and seems for you as well.
100% thank you
Good clip Mike. The amount of new weight training equipment that’s coming out is incredible. Thanks for the great reviews.
Thanks William. I totally agree, some very cool things coming out.
I just recently started following you, but I appreciate how balanced your reviews are. You've got a great setup! I own a Gym Monster and use it for pretty much everything, but I also have some Core adjustable dumbbells for for rows and chest presses and a few other things.
Thanks for providing some solid info!
Thanks my friend. I agree a Gym Monster is pretty hard to beat for basic exercises and the fact that it's so portable.
Best piece of equipment is gymnastics rings. It will humble you and reveal your weak spots on your body. When you first start using it for first month your body will shake like a leaf and you will question yourself why you so weak and can’t do body weight. After a few months you will see growth and stability in your muscles. From my experience using gymnastics rings it’s amazing that body weight is no joke i had great results especially for chest strength.
Those definitely humble you. I made a video not too long ago where I broke out my old pair. I like them, I'd just need a decent set up space to use them for often.
I’m thinking of getting rid of my power cage and getting a folding squat rack, need the space more than I need it.
Bought a second hand Powertec 2nd generation and put my metalwork skills to the test and upgraded it to better than the new edition. Added holes now has 27 adjustments and you can park the arms out of the way for pulldowns also added the band pegs. Also added SS eyebolts rated to 200kg each in various positions. I use some very large ladder securing caribineers to attach Loop bands to the arms and the pulldown, can also use tube bands of various lengths. Wish I could post a picture. Also can use chains at whatever angle I want to do Isometric work.
I'm adding an Eye bolt to the bottom of the pull down Kneepad as it will enable the lower cable to attach and you can do seated calf raises.
Also made the Swiss guys band platform with rollers and I’m impressed. You can adjust band lengths easily and use the really short loop bands to belt squat through the centre of the board.
Will have to stop watching your channel soon as I’m running out of room, time and money 😂
Thanks, brother! Just letting you know go both ways I end up buying a lot of equipment that suggested to me from you guys. I envy all of you with your work skills. Thanks for sharing those tips though.
I personally love seeing different styles of home gyms. I have a rack but not everyone has to have one they're mainly meant for people doing heavy barbell movements which not everyone does. I like seeing the creativity people have when designing their gyms to their specific needs.
Me too. Love seeing people get great results with a variety of equipment and space.
No matter what anybody thinks. Equipment makes a difference. Especially if you enjoy using it. I’ve noticed different equipment in different parts of the country. If people do not review these machines and let the public know? A great design will go to the waste side. A bigger company will wait until the patent is up. Then charge us consumers twice as much. You don’t need any equipment. If you willing to spend 3-4 hours a day working out. Your choice with weights is 3 sets of ten. With calisthenics. 1000 thousand of every movement. You may get by with 500 hundred.
Thanks Lamar. I know some people personally that I think had this taken advantage of them with great ideas that eventually snatched up.
Have you ever used the Zane leg blaster? Since you hold on to a bar while squatting it helps one to go lower in the squat, helpful for us flexibility challenged older lifters.
I have seen that, but never tried one. You're making me want to get ahold of one.
💪🏼 for the algo. So much variety!
As always, thank you so much!
@@hybridresistance thank you!
Your home gym is quite different from mine. I think a lot of that has to do with preferred training methods but it looks like you've been at it a long time and see results - that's really what matters aside from your happiness. In my personal opinion, and I don't mean to offend or tell anyone what to do, I'd reduce a few redundant pieces and bring in a few things that would diversify your tools. I'd get rid of the vertical leg press - you have it covered with the hack/press combo. I'd get rid of one of the combo lever gyms. That would free up space for a few things I didn't see in your video (maybe a full functional trainer (or at least a cable crossover), smith machine, or power rack). I know that some of these tools might already be in your kit or may not fit your training style (and maybe you have redundant things to review them) - that's just where my wandering thoughts go. Thanks for sharing your gym!
Excellent comment brother and definitely no offense taken. I must have not mentioned it, but the leg press was the first of my leg machines when I wanted something compact when I had very little space. I actually just unloaded it today ironically. And also right there with you, one of the lever arm machines is going for sure. As for the functional trainer, that's always on the back burner, but for me the speediance does what I'd use a FT for, plus I love the portability factor of it. New racks are incoming, but a lot of my set up also has the element that I'm constantly reviewing products, so I need things that hopefully don't take up much space.
Hey what happened with the GMWD levergym? Did you switch it for the PowerTec?
Update: Watching your video further through, I noticed it was still there :)
I ended up giving that one away. The clip you saw was just an older clip with it. Still a solid machine, but the Ptec has some features on it I liked more. Namely the multi bench hook up and the ability to rack/unrack mid set.
good gym
Thanks man.
@@hybridresistance yehh, so cool
Were u able to use the criterion cable attachment at homegymcon? Thoughts??
No offense at all to the product I just don’t think it caught my interest. There was something similar that I might be covering in the near future that had these band mechanisms inside of them. It gave you a crazy bicep pump almost immediately the name escapes me, but I’ll try and get it on the channel soon.
@@hybridresistance possibly the CUBB rotating bar? Thank you for the feedback about the other.
@@meisdetermined I got to go back and check out my home gym con video files to find the company. I’ll let you know, though when I do.
That rolling handle is called a “wrist wrench”
Thanks man. I’m loving it so far.
No problem. They are an awesome training tool. Really popular with arm wrestlers for building wrist strength.
Personally i sold my house and now I'm staying in a bedroom in someone else's house. (Went through a divorce). So i don't have space, i have powerblocks, x3 system and all types of bands, the big bar from baseblocks with Olympic rings hung on it, and a bench i can fold and put in the corner. The limitations can inspire creativity
Sorry about the divorce, but I love hearing about how you maximize your set up and tools
it looks like Total Gym is not your favourite anymore. lol
It was never my "favorite", just an unbelievably underrated machine that does many things well given the context of being a single unit bodyweight driven resistance machine. I've made some past videos on this, but where a sliding bench really shines is if you have the space to leave it set up and or if you want a solo piece that's incredibly functional, cheap, and has a low footprint. To this day few things can compare with it on those grounds. I also made a video on this, but once you start adding in other equipment or get more space, it's starts to lose a lot of its shine. I'm hoping to get some outdoor stand alone workouts in this summer with it.
Five years later, I still love my TG and I have 2. But I crave variety and I have dumbbells. Many sizes, various bands and balls. My TG investment has paid off
Buy individual dumbbells.
Adjustable dumbbells suck
A full DB set would be nice, but most people don't have the cash or space for that. But like I said in the video, some of these new quick change sets, I actually prefer in feel to most commercial DBs. But those old commercial York or Troy DBs were my favorite.
Nothing much for me to say here. Just another great video.
Thanks as always, brother for your support. Always good to see those familiar names check in from time to time.
