    Reviewing an affordable Lever (or Leverage Gym) Multi-Station Resistance Training Machine by GMWD on Amazon. NOTE: You can purchase this with or without the weight bench, even without the weight bench I'm finding it's ~$300 less than other brands that don't pack a bench.

    Update: Here's my comparison video to the Powertec Lever Gym: ua-cam.com/video/tahnVv-3xr8/v-deo.html
    Older Update: if you get this machine, make sure that you rig the cable going through the machine more towards the backside. I noticed there was some rubbing against the screws when I was doing seated rows from the cable rubbing against the middle screws of the frame. Also, here's another recent video where I show how versatile this thing is with resistance bands ua-cam.com/video/j7OMBUnwloo/v-deo.html

    Your gym is looking pretty full now but I’d love if you reviewed the inspire bl1. It’s super compact and lightweight for a full gym and doesn’t use weights. It uses body weight for resistance up to %150 percent of your weight. A 200lb user could get 300lbs of resistance. Seems like such a cool machine.

      I have the Powertec version myself. Easily one of my favorite and most used pieces of equipment in my home gym. Very versatile, replaces so many machines in one and they don't take up a lot of space. They are priced cheap new, and you can find them even cheaper second hand if lucky enough. Although not full commercial quality, they are built quite sturdy and should be more than enough for home gyms. 10/10.

    I wish you did more videos on the Levergym. I bought the Powertec Levergym and love it. Can you do more videos on exercises that you can do with the machine to target everything? Like lower back, different ways to get the chest hit good, deadlift alternatives, and whatever else you feel like doing? I just wish it was faster to switch weights so I can do supersets effectively, but then again my Powerblocks can always solve that issue - switch between the machine and Powerblocks for supersets.

      Actually it does have independent lever arms. I have the powertec version of this machine and they are built very similar. There are two removable pins on the arms, one is a safety catch for the arms and the other is to engage or remove unilateral (independent)movement. Look closely towards the back of the arms around the pivot point and you will see the two pins in the video. These Leverage machines honestly are amazing and so functional/universal.

    • @Onisamurai101
      @Onisamurai101 8 місяців тому

      @@michaelkulman7095Yes I believe this is the cheapest version, but honestly they are all similar I have the Powertec version. You can do pull ups and dips on the Powertec version. Just set the arms to a flat/horizontal level with the safety pin catch and you can do dips, even weighted it is very sturdy. For pull ups I place a lat pulldown bar attachment on top of the resting hooks near the upper pulley and hang from them, it is quite sturdy as well. Granted either pull ups or dips you may need to bend your knees due to limited hanging space, but yes doable and works great.

      Very much appreciate that brother. I honestly have dabbled in all sorts of resistant training modalities since I was 16. By far my bread and butter though has been higher volume bodybuilding type workouts. In the last three years I’ve been following an upper lower body split 2 times a week. I think the biggest thing that works is to keep being consistent with whatever form resistance training you’re doing and if you need to put on more muscle mass, have a slight caloric surplus with a higher protein diet.

    I just have a little comment on the squat bar attachment. I used to own the Powertec version of this many years ago. I think that the squat bar attachment was meant to be used in conjunction with the lever handles to support body or weight plate weight. The squat bar attachment pins are small and I don't think were meant to be the sole support for all weight load placed on it.
    Because the squat bar free hangs after attaching it to the lever handle, you could swing it under the lever handle when doing squats. Then the squat bar will be pushing against the lever handle and not rely on the attachment pins to support the weight. Especially since squats are usually really heavy weight.
    When doing back extensions, the squat bar should swing above the lever handles so that your downward body weight load will be supported by the lever handle rather than the small attachment pins. I hope that makes sense. I'm not too good at explaining things.
    In other words, don't rely on the small thin attachment pins to support weight. They should only be used to attach the bar to the lever handle. The squat bar should be swung above or below the lever handle and push against the lever handles which should support all of the weight resistance. I could by wrong but at least that's how I did it when I had the machine.
    Great review by the way. You covered everything in an easy to understand way that really helps us all. Thank you. I really miss my old Powertec Lever machine.

      Truly helpful! If hyperextensions or reverse hyperextensions could be done as well that matters a lot as it's all about the footprint of things for me nowadays.
      Do pullups and chins work okay as well, in your opinion?
      I'm considering a lever gym over a rack but I'm still evaluating things.
      When the reviewer questioned the safety of the squat bar I was concerned about that...
      I guess the Powertec is the safest option, been around a long time?

    • @kenfuchigami
      @kenfuchigami 9 місяців тому +1

      @@michaelkulman7095 I'm glad it was helpful for you.
      In my opinion, if you need the narrower grip for pull ups or chins, the squat bar would work. The principal is the same if you swing the squat bar above and on top of the lever handles, the handles would support all your weight during the pull up and not the squat bar attachment pins. I don't do pull ups because I never was strong enough so this is just my opinion. But if the lever handles are able to support 500 pounds, then your pull ups should be no problem at all.
      The Powertec looks and performs exactly like this GMWD gym. Very well built. I have a feeling the GMWD is just a rebranded Powertec. I had my Powertec lever gym almost 20 years ago. I actually got rid of it so I could get a Powertec power rack with high and low pulleys. At the time, I didn't like the 20% reduction in weight that the lever arms produced. I wanted "ALL" the heaviness that free weights could give. But now that I'm older and have experienced the two, I think I should have stayed with my Lever gym. Who cares if it makes 300 pounds feel like 240? Just add more weight until you can't lift it anymore. The rack ended up taking up a lot more space than than the lever gym and I didn't like that. The lever gym was also a lot safer than the rack.
      Good luck on your decision!

      @@knownoboundaries___ That is about right. I used to have this gym (powertec brand). I would load six 45 pound plates (about 300 pounds?) on the lever arms and do bench press for 6 reps or so. Then, one day I was in a regular gym and decided to try doing bench press with a free weight bar to see how it compared. After a brief warm up, I loaded four 45 pound plates (about 225 pounds, including the bar) on the bar thinking it would be light for me. I struggled to get 1 rep. I was so surprised. There was a noticeable difference.

    2 questions.
    A) another reviewer loves this but didn't think for squats it was that great and recommended buying a lever squat machine for an extra. What do you tbink about this machine for sqauts ?
    B) why do you think there are a lot of these ( from all the different cos) on fb marketplace ? Or is that common for most gym equipment because lots of people are quitters ?

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  9 місяців тому

      I personally loved the way it feels for multi-joint leg stuff (squats, lunges, RDL, Goodmorings). I was messing with a variety of squat positions as well. I think it's still good to mix it up with other leg exercises, but as with everything, there's always personal preference. As for the second part , I don't really know. I don't use the marketplace, but I assume people just don't use it or it's not for them. These are probably also easier to unload than other multi gyms.

      Being available used doesn't mean it's bad equipment.
      I moved and sold a Cybex half rack rather than move it along with about 600# of Olympic weight, a FID bench, 90# Powerblocks
      and several aerobic machines and they all worked...moved and to a smaller place.
      Sure it could be bad or good but people move, quit, change their minds and workout philosophy, get into power lifting, strong man or Olympic lifting or just want to do classic lifts with classic
      equipment...or feel free weights are best.
      Studies seem to say otherwise though...
      Ideally you'd try to find a unit on a sales floor to try it out...ideally...or if available used try it out or don't buy it...
      Good luck!

      I still use it regularly. One note was the pinned comment on making sure you install the cable a certain way. The only thing I'm noticing is that isn't really that big of a deal (but I'm mindful about) is the middle of the unit where the top and bottom connect with screws like create a little space if say you hang on it with pull ups on the backside. It may just need occasional tightening of the screws, but I just don't do pull ups and or dips just in case of potential wear n tear. Otherwise everything is great.
