Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into these videos friend. The content is top notch and I hope to see your channel get the reach that it deserves. I loved the video where you showed us how to properly dial in the boogie amp and the video you did on the blues jr!
Thanks for the trouble of making this video! I have the Blues Junior III Tweed. I like it it alot and information like this is priceless! Thanks Budda!
BJR is a great amp, despite it's shortcomings.Part of the slagging they receive is due to "common popularity",- they've become THE introductory tube amp.The issue is more the cab & overall size than the amp itself; the speaker alone, def matters, but run it into a good cab, and you can get some suprising results. This is also a great choice for a wet/ dry or stereo rig; combine with a similar output amp with different tonal characteristics,-more mid push, for example. It's popular because of it's price point, not it's sound; but don't be confused into thinking that sound is "bad". Great playing as usual, BTW.
I have the Jensen speaker in my tweed BJR. It's not the best sounding when overdriven but the cleans are superb. To me the I think I preferred the Celestion G12 T100 over the ET65. It sounded less "box like". Cheers
You can hear how the G12 dosen't naturally pop the same way as either of the others; bit more restrained on the break up and attack, more " wash" , integrated, effect. I've found the BJR to be a good pedal platform, though not great on it's own.The extra push and bite added by outside drives brings it up to level, whereas I've noticed they can be too much on smaller combos with 10''s.(Fender has modified/ corrected this on the more recent versions to a large extent.I own a heavily modded V1, made in USA). I like the G12, which was suggested by a local ,knowledgeable, amp tech; I have a second cab, with the ET65, that I can switch out to.(WGS/ Warehouse are the bomb.) I think it's under appreciated how much the speaker, cab, and ohm rating effect the overall sound,- it can be like owning several diff amps.I've even hooked it up to a ( massively overspecced)Eminence Swamp Thang, for use with baritone.
Rafael Rechia I really don’t like the V30 speaker, but thanks for the suggestion. The beauty of music and gear is that everyone has its own taste and there are no right or wrong choices!! What works for me might not work for you. And that’s great!!! So your suggestion might be great for others. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Yes I have to a V30 in my blues jr, and i really like it in particular with my overdrive/distortion pedal, maybe its depend of your type of music... when i use in stereo my vox ac15 with the greenback my blues jr with the v30, i like it :) ! Whereas in my pro junior i changed for a vintage G10, (the v30 in 10") and i didn't like it...
Another great video doctor! Though I think my ears are spoiled by an old 80s Electro Voice speaker that I picked up a few months ago. I know it won't fit in a blues Junior which I do not have at the present time. Till next time, " Keep On Rocking."
I went through a good few speakers in my Blues Jr (which I purposely bought as a modding platform) - didn't like the Vintage 30 at all, I did like both the Jensen C12 and the Eminence Texas Heat - but I settled with a 55hz Celestion Heritage G12H30 greenback. To my ears the greenback's sensitivity and bass response really opened the amp up.
Yours is the version one, right Budda? I have one of the version three tweeds with a WGS ET65 I installed in it. Mine sounds nothing like yours. I know they changed quite a few things between iterations and I think the newer models are a vast improvement, they seem to have way more chime and less boxiness. Yours definitely sounded "like a toy" as you described it.
The original has that Classic Fender sound and bright cutting chime. My experience with Warehouse speakers is they have a weird midrange tone (dark and almost muddy), definitly loses the Fender sound. I agree, the Celestion 100 sounds somewhere in between, has that classic celestion sound, nice tone, has that woody tonal charateristic.
so glad i found this channel. great content. I just gotta work my way through your catalog now. How do you think an ac15 compares with a blues jr as a clean pedal platform
I almost feel like the first song was poorly dialed in, didn't sound very open at all and too dry. The telecaster overall sounded better regardless of speaker, just dialed in better.
Heres the deal------- The Blues Junior cab is made up of particle board. If you'd like to make it sound lots better, build or have built.. a cabinet made of pine with proper joints. I believe you will have much less frustration and spend less money in the long run.
Buddda im confused on the speaker types and their description. U said celestion k100, typed t100. They are t100 right ? And the wgs is a et65 ? Im not trying to be condescending. I just want too make sure what is what.
Bryan Keith the correct information is what’s written. I thought the name of the speakers was different and after recording the episode I double checked it and wrote it correctly.
Subjectively, the original sounds a lot olden goldies-authentic (with warts and all). The Warehouse sounds more refined. Modern. The 100 sounds somehere inbetween.
DOC! I PUT THE SAME SPEAKER IN, IT DID MAKE IT SOUND BIGGER MORE HEADROOM BUT I HAVE A VOX AC10 THAT I FIND MY SELF USING WAYYYY MORE...IM GONNA MOD IT DEFINITLY ANYONE HAVE A GOOD MOD FOR BJR?
I suspect that it's the "10 speaker in the Vox you're responding to, as well as the (lower?) volumes you commonly use. I have long used both, and find that the BJR sounds best cranked at band practice levels, while the AC is the bedroom practice amp. They work great together, with the different natural eqs complimenting each other. The BJR is also better as a pedal platform; I rarely use it by itself. The speaker & cab make a huge difference. I did the Deluxe Frommel mod on my original USA model years ago, and it helped considerably.
did you call my amp a toy? i was going to get a 65 deluxe reverb but i didn't really need to,to be cleat ive got a green board lake oswego blues jr witch came stock with alot of old sun components since fender had bought them so it might not compare well to your toy version mim lol a toy?
To me it’s not comparable to a god professional amp like the deluxe reverb. With that said the Tweed version is a very good amp and I own a Black version II. It means I like it but it’s not the best amp I’ve played. It’s cool for some things!
@@BuddaGuedes ok cut out the cost saving measures basically witch i understand but that would end up costing 2300$ vs 300-500 for pretty much the exact same thing! the only pluses are that you could theoretically abuse one worse and fix it as long as $ and a good amp tech is near, or replace the old board and get on with it? so i guess its mostly perspective . but i dont think its a toy or even a practice amp it fills a slot in tones needed to survive life but for a good deal for those struggling at life still.
It’s the best inexpensive amp to my but it sounds a little boxy specially when recorded and it doesn’t react to pick attack that good. But it’s a lovely amp, don’t get me wrong. The best at its price range
It clearly would depend on your style.IF you are about high gain, no, - not the amp for you. Other than that, it's widely recognized as one of the best small combos going.
I love it, for what it is. But I have a Mesa for other sounds and a Fryette for high gain. The Fender blues Jr is for vintage clean tweed tones, thats what it does well. Sounds like a 50s tweed. Love em.
Good review! I would like your opinion on an speaker for my Amp Fender Blues Jr III that comes from a speaker Fender Special Design Eminence 12 "Lightning Bolt Speaker 8 Ohms 50 Watts. I ask your opinion based on your experience, because I am your review Celestion speakers, and you also play on a fender blues jr. It's not that this is a bad HP fender Eminance, but for the style of music I play, the "Nirvana" grunge, it seems to me that something is missing ... I play with a Fender Jaguar Kurt Cobain, and I basically use the clean channel with distortion pedals. To improve the speaker, according to my style of music, what would you recommend?
Celestion Vintage 30? Celestion 12 "G12M Greenback ™ or Celestion Creamback G12M-65 Made in UK? Thank you
Understand, Nuno, that Cobain wasn't a gearhead that sweated brand names or expensive equipment; if you look at his choices, including guitars, all of it was cheap stuff you could find at the local pawn; those signature Cobain off sets were dirt cheap back then.If you want to REALLY follow his creative process, find what YOU like,- what sounds good to you.
Mine sounds really good. But I NEVER turn that fat switch on or use its gain. For gain I use a tube driver in front and it sounds amazing. For cleans it's got a great tweed clean tone.
I find these comparisons interesting but I don't chase drivers anymore. I have Fane Studio 12Ls and Celestion G12M Greenbacks. Really like both and they work great with amps I have used them with. At this point I'd get rid of an amp that didn't work with one or the other. Everyone has different needs but there are imo several great and affordable amps. The BJ doesn't tick any boxes for me, many love them and that is dandy. :)
stock speaker all the way with cleans, but with gain or higher gain a total fart show. completely unable to handle anything with distortion/gain.Unless it's run really really quiet. At least that's my MIM Junior. I hate this amp, but it's all I have. ugh!!!
Not a bad amp, just needs to be properly EQed.Whenever you're dealing with low output amps, it's going to be a fragile balance.Like he says, use the EQ on the amp, but also use a mid push / bass cut drive for heavier sounds.Changing the speaker does make a big difference.
What kind of guitar tone so you want? Cause Blues Jr is only good for vintage tweed cleans. Unless you put a tube screamer in front of it on clean settings, then I can do some grindy blues tones that sound good.
Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into these videos friend. The content is top notch and I hope to see your channel get the reach that it deserves. I loved the video where you showed us how to properly dial in the boogie amp and the video you did on the blues jr!

Glad I stuck around for the jam!
Eh! Ehh
I just love the blues junior, great episode.
Thanks for a great video Budda!

Great playing as usual, BTW.
It’s a relatively inexpensive amp that can get great tones! I’ve done many records just with it!
People buy it not knowing what it is, they wanna play AC/DC or metallica LOL. It's a vintage tweed style amp, that's what it does.
The change speaker is good enough man great desition Celestions allways the right way for sounding awesome
I didn’t change to a celestion. I used a warehouse speakers
I have the Jensen speaker in my tweed BJR. It's not the best sounding when overdriven but the cleans are superb. To me the I think I preferred the Celestion G12 T100 over the ET65. It sounded less "box like". Cheers
I liked the stock more with telecaster.

Man the celestion sounds really good!
Eh! Eh! Great you like it
The blues Jr III has a great tone... with a Cannabis Rex.. it kills.
Try the V30's on the BJr. I do it and the V30 sounds more open on the BJr.
Rafael Rechia thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out now👌

Budda Guedes if you could pick any speaker to put in a Blues Jnr what would you choose?
I kept the ET65. It sounds great on the Blues Junior.
Yes I have to a V30 in my blues jr, and i really like it in particular with my overdrive/distortion pedal, maybe its depend of your type of music... when i use in stereo my vox ac15 with the greenback my blues jr with the v30, i like it :) !

Just put a creamback heavy in my version III and breaking it in but what a difference
It’s huge!!!!
LMAO @ 1:25 "I hate that speaker" Tell us how you really feel, Doc? Another excellent video, love your honesty too. Peace, Budda, and Thanks

cszollinger that’s what I’ve been saying for a long time. The versions are very different, not only the speaker was changed.
Excellent. Enjoyed the side by side the best
lstierney I love it too!!!

I'm not familiar with the AC15 but I'm about to check it for a while.

Missy Victoria I did it for the pro junior and it really made a difference!!
I'll just get a pine 1 X 12 cab and plug it into that.

That SRV jam is tricky to play.

For the nirvana tone you should have a 4x12” cab and a Marshall JCM900. With the blues jr try the wgs ET65 or Celestino G12 75

IS IT JUST ME OR DOES THIS AMP JUST SOUND LIKE CRAP NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEAKER ???????
I Thinks it's just you! It's a killer amp, specially for the size and price!!

Budda is a wake
ha, "We'll see each other next _tweak."_ (see what I did there?)

ET-65 wins!
