- Amazon released two new Fire Sticks for 2020, the Fire TV Stick 3rd Gen & the Fire TV Stick Lite. Both come with OS 7 (Android 9) which gives you the ability to use an external USB drive as internal storage. In this video I will show you what you need so you can add more storage to your Fire TV Stick 3rd Gen & Lite. This will also work for the Fire TV Cube 1st & 2nd Gen.

Thanks Philly Cable Dave! Appreciate it. Thank you for your support! Keep your great content coming also bro!
This metaphor works for the second generation of fire stick??
No it does not work for the second gen.
Great video. I have a newer firestick (2nd Gen released in Sept 2020). I also bought an ethernet adapter from Amazon so I have a wired connection to firestick. Everything works well. I then decided to add an external drive and here is my dilemma.
I purchased the following:
* OTG cable
* 32 GB Sandisk USB drive
Connection :
Power from the wall goes to the ethernet adapter
The ethernet cable from my router goes to the ethernet adapter
The other side of the adapter wire goes to the OTG cable
The other side of OTG cable goes into the Firestick
The USB drive goes into OTG
The Firestick is plugged into TV
I restarted my Firestick but it says no internet connection to firestick. I went to my fire TV in options, and I can see the external drive there 32 GB but no internet connection.
I checked the network and my wired ethernet connection was no longer there.
To troubleshoot, I removed the OTG cable and the internet came back and the firestick works fine and I checked the network, and it says the ethernet connection is connected again. Shortly after, I tried reconnecting OTG and the same thing occurred, I can see the external drive but no internet connection.
I left everything connected as is and went to network and added my Wi-Fi and it worked. Do you have any recommendations on why this is happening? I can't connect through the Ethernet adapter using the OTG ...... I bought the adapter so I can get a hardwire connection from the router to Firestick ...... not sure what to do. I even turned off ADB Debugging just in case. I tried unplugging everything and reconnecting and the same scenario as above.
I did recreate your setup and did confirm that it will not work. I also tried connecting Power > OTG > Ethernet Adapter > Fire Stick and the adapter will work but not the USB drive. That problem is the Ethernet adapter. It will not work with the OTG. You will need to get a USB Hub with a built-in Ethernet adapter. Then you can connect it to the OTG USB port, and the USB Drive and Ethernet cable can connect thru the USB Hub. I used a UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub with Ethernet Adapter 10/100/1000 and it works fine. Also have a Wireless keyboard connected to it also.
@@DJsTutorials thank you . I will try that and let you know . Thanks for the quick response
Please do. You're welcome.
@@DJsTutorials, thank you for recreating and going through all that. When you have a moment could you please send me the amazon URL for UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub ( or any URL so I may purchase the correct one).
No problem. I like trying to duplicate a problem and see if I can figure it out before I give anyone an answer. I do have it in my Amazon Affiliate store under Streaming Devices & Accessories. The link to my store is in the video description if you want to use it or if you do a search on Amazon for "UGREEN USB 3.0 hub ethernet adapter" you will find it in there also. It should be the 3rd item in the search results. It is a Black Color Hub & has 3 USB 3.0 Ports and 1 Ethernet port. The cost is $21.99 Now if you do use my Amazon Store link, I do make a small commission off of the purchase but for you the price will be the same. Just being straight with you.
Congratulations for the videos that I follow even if my language is Italian. I have a NON 4k and NOT Lite Fire TV Stick, so I would call it standard. I put the connector to mount a USB and I see the pen. I formatted it as internal storage, but if I download an app, it is stored on main storage, not USB. I also tried to see on some apps already installed, but I don't see the option to move from internal to USB. Does this possibility exist only for 4K or also for the lower ones? What features do apps need to have in order to be moved to USB? Thanks for the replies.
Ciao Marco.
TIVIMATE APP ... HOW DO I SEND THE RECORDING TO MY ...USB STICK...THANKS
You can connect a USB drive as "External Storage" and then in the TiviMate settings go to recordings and choose the external drive.
But doesn't run 4k high bitrate contents via drive. Instead using Plex which runs smoother.
Not to many people play 4K bit rate using an external drive. Most need more storage for their apps or if they want to record to it. But I do agree with using Plex for 4K content. I sure do. Thank you for sharing.
NTFS support? And what about dts audio support?
Not as internal storage. Needs to be FAT32
Does this speed up the firestick in general? And would it help with iptv apps to run smoother etc? As they don't have much ram on these sticks.
In general yes. By having more free internal space the Fire TV Stick will run better but with that said, you still need to do some basic maintenance like restarting the Fire Stick every so often, stopping background apps, & clearing the cache. IPTV apps I would recommend keeping in the internal storage and not on the external storage. Internal storage is much faster than external.
Brother Dj how to change Celsius to Fahrenheit in Alexa app please
Hi Jose, how are you my friend? In the Alexa app, go to More > Settings > Alexa App Settings > Scroll down till you see Measurement Units. In there you can change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit and also apply/sync those settings to your other devices that are connected to the Alexa app.
@@DJsTutorials thank you brother
You are welcome. Any time brother!
@@DJsTutorials still saying Celsius on Alexa in my remote control weather, it was ok in the app
Not sure what you mean your remote control weather. Is this on the Fire Stick?
Nice
Thanks
What is an otg cable
An OTG cable is a special cable that allows you to connect a full size USB device like a flash drive or external hard drive, a wireless keyboard, to the Micro USB charging port of the Fire Stick.
I trying to expand my storage on my fire stick 2nd generation. How to do it
The Fire TV Stick 2nd generation will not work with this method. Doesn't support it.
@@DJsTutorials will it works on the 2018 4k fire tv stick
No it won't until it gets upgrade to OS 7 ( Android 9) which should be some time this year I believe
I have done the formatting to device storage and it shows 0 bytes of 0 bytes for storage available. Any thoughts?
That is the first time I hear that. Have you tried restarting the Fire Stick and then checking to see if it shows the actual available space? Give that a try first and depends on your answer we take it from there.
@@DJsTutorials yes, I’ve restarted it a few times with usb attached and without.
What if you try changing it to external storage, restart fire stick and then change it back to internal.
@@DJsTutorials I’ll give that a shot. I did that but didn’t restart it.
@@DJsTutorials I tried all of that and it still doesn’t give me the option to transfer to the stick. The meme our shows up but as external and I formatted it for internal. 🤷♂️
i am facing one more problem
when a send a app from my phone to firetv using es file explorer i get to see a pop up, app not installed what am i doing wrong
Make sure adb debugging is enabled in the Fire TV Stick settings.
@@DJsTutorials its always on sir
@@DJsTutorials i have another query
can i connect my wired keyboard and mouse to fire stick using multiple usb port and enjoy games
will that work?
I have been using a Firestick 4k for a couple of years and finally got frustrated with the amount of buffering so I have been attempting to use a 64 gig Scandisk flash drive to use as external storage so I can download the Movie and then play from the scandisk then delete the media. I have watched numerous Videos describing the procedure but never had any success using ES file exployer or x-plore to create a file folder to download. I have tried to format with win 10 fat32 format, exfat33 and a third party format but same problem, I can see the drive on file manager but creating a new file folder always fails even following the the instructions to the letter. my hook up using OTG Cable seems to be ok since I can see the drive, What am I missing???.
The Fire TV Stick 4K does not support this method yet. Once the OS gets updated to OS7 then you can use these steps in my video. In the meantime, if you are willing to try Remote ADB Shell check TechDoctorUK channel. He has a few step by step videos for Remote ADB Shell for the 4K Stick.
@@DJsTutorials it doesnt work
It doesn't work on which device?
@@DJsTutorials regular fire stick not the 4k version
The 2nd Gen Fire Stick has not been updated to OS 7 yet. Only the new 2020 3rd Gen came with it as of now and the Cube. 4K Stick should get updated in March but not sure when for the 2nd Gen.
this mean can i transfer all sideload app from firestick to usb
i also have asphalt 8 installed but when i move it to usb i only get about 150 mb free whereas the app is of 2 .78 gb
pls help
Not all apps are able to be transferred to the USB drive. Also some will not work as good as if they were installed on the devices internal drive. Keep that in mind. You can also use Apps2Fire app to sideload your apps from your phone.
@@DJsTutorials when i use apps2fire it displays a error message
@@DJsTutorials can every app work on firestick using apps2fire .
even pure android apss
@@yesurdad123 What does the error message say?
@@yesurdad123 Most of the app will work but not every Android app will work or will work correctly on the Fire Stick. Some you may need to use another app like "Screen Orientation" in order to display correctly.
Nice
Thank you!
