Tal Wilkenfeld on bass and Vinnie Caliuta on drums comprise the perfect rhythm section.
Vinnie Colaiuta played drums for Frank Zappa, so you know he's no slouch.
Nuttin vinnie cant do
Vinnie... The quiet part? He n' Peart is the real GOAT discussion. Colaiuta can play anything. Perfectly. On sight.
There is absolutely no one who plays the guitar like Jeff Beck. He was one of a kind. RIP
Not any more.
True dat
It didn't matter to Jeff; he played blues, funk, heavy metal, jazz, and rockabilly and mastered them all. What a talent and guitar
genius. RIP, Jeff Beck, you were unique and admired by so many. Thanks, guys, for playing some Jeff today. Your commentary
and reviews are always top-level and spot-on. Jeff knew how necessary the Bass Player was, and Jeff loved her because she
could play and never got intimidated when he improvised on stage.
The greatest that ever was
No one can make sounds like he does.. like EVH.. one of a kind
Jeff Beck got sounds out of a guitar that made the guitar think "I didn't know I could do that!"
Give the drummer some! Colaiuta was killing it on this!
Always does. Doesnt matter whi hes with!
NO ONE ELSE played like Jeff Beck.
A masterclass by Jeff on pulling sounds from a strat that nobody else could.
Jeff was totally unique. There's really nothing to compare him with. He took his own path and didn't care about what was popular or trendy. He did his own thing right up until the end. Truly one of a kind.
He didn't do anything so crazy that Tal couldn't keep up with it to be sure, but yeah he obviously did some improvising there that caught her attention. One of the things I love about Tal Wilkenfeld is how thrilled she is to be on stage playing. The joy she gets from it is palpable. Aside from her amazing ability and talent, I think her love of it is infectious. Especially to some of these old-timers who have been doing it for decades.
The most expressive player I've ever heard.
RIP Jeff Beck...The only guitarist on the planet that CAN'T be copied!!!
Guys this is Live at Ronnie Scott’s. This is the night. Tal Wilkenfeld became a superstar. Check out same show. We ended as lovers. Which features an incredible bass solo. And you’ve got Vinny C on the skins. It doesn’t get any better. Jeff has taken the guitar to a level that’s all his own. May he rest in peace. As always Peace, Love and Continued Success 🙏
She is the perfect example of being in the moment
"Superstar"? Relax bud, few can name any other performance, track or anything else by her. This was all about Beck.
And that is one reason why Jeff Beck is one of my guitar gods !! Jam on !!!
Years ago, I read a review of a Jeff Beck show that I had just attended and the writer referred to Beck’s playing style as “groundbreaking guitar acrobatics”.
I always thought that was a brief, but fairly accurate description of just part of his talents.
I had the pleasure of seeing him live 10
times over the years, and every performance was jaw dropping.
He certainly wasn’t mainstream, but he was the best at what he did and he did it the way that he wanted to - which few people in this life get to do.
RIP.
Just another day at the office for these three Stars. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👴
You could react to every last bit of Jeff Beck's live from Ronnie Scott's performances and then play it through another 20 times, and I would just get happier.
I'd especially love hearing his cover of Stevie Wonder's Because We Ended As Lovers and
Billy Cobham's Stratus and
Freeway Jam.
Tal and Vinnie are surreal.
RIP, Jeff -
This concert became a link between my daughter and me. I'd sometimes play this in the car as I took her to school way back when, and she ended up loving it! We've listened to it together dozens of times and have been to see Jeff together twice. Both times we traveled have away across the country to see him play. I still can't accept we'll never get to see him again. RIP Jeff Beck.
Thanks for sharing that Father/ Daughter story David ❗ Love that. My father used to turn me on to great music when I was a young child. He'd have the latest hits ( Funk, R&B, Rock, Latin etc) ...record them on this big reel to reel system to play at his parties ...and then give me the original records to keep. Music 🎵🎵🎵 was always playing in the house and car. I was a live on air radio DJ in New Orleans for 21 years. To this day... first thing I do when I rise, while coffee ☕ is brewing...is to turn on our outstanding community radio station in Tampa ( WMNF) . Gotta start the day with great music 🎵🎵🎵.Can't live without it. 😊
What a great gift your dad gave you!@@elisaabolafia9542
SRV, Van Halen, Page, etc - Jeff Beck was in a class all his own
454 Chevy, 427 Ford, 440 Chrysler & Jeff's Stratocaster. Badass.
Love Jeff Beck. Have seen him many times live and he always put on such an amazing show. I love this bassist too, wow. RIP Jeff
Beck was uncopiable, always improvising, always generous to his bandmates shining. Total gentleman. He was also a top-notch hotrod builder, wrenched his collection himself. I saw him on the same ticket as SRV. They were mutual admirers and friends. When they toured they shared top billing; one night Jeff would headline, the next SRV. Neither wanted to be top dog. Mad respect for each other. Hope there's an afterlife with Fender Strats for them both.
After watching the Live At Ronnie Scott’s performance, go checkout the studio version, and the entire “Guitar Shop” LP.
I have the LP.. double set.. priceless!!
Cannot be replaced. Rock on.
Where Were You, from the same show, is amazing. Shivers down your soul level...
Creature in his own universe.... one of.
He usually holds the wammy bar in his hand all the time when he plays all his notes. That is where a ton of his amazing sounds come from! Legend!!!!
The amazing thing about Tal Wilkenfeld, the bassist, is that she never picked up a guitar before 2000, did not pick up a bass before 2003, but she got so good so fast that she was touring with Chick Correa, and then Jeff Beck here in 2007. 4 years!!! She has also recorded with Prince and Herbie Hancock, among others.
Thanks for that narrative about TAL the bass player. My first time watching her perform. BRAVO TAL❗Raw talent can emerge at any time in our lives. You either have it or you don't.
Bravo for doing more Jeff Beck! Do your souls a favor and review the entire Blow by Blow album. Love your channel! 👍
Great stuff, and it’s not even the best example from the show. It was taken from ‘Live at Ronnie Scott’s’. If you can still find the disc (preferably Blu-ray), you REALLY SHOULD buy it. I’ve watched it about a hundred times and it’s still magic.
I've been waiting for someone to react to something from the Ronnie Scott's shows. This is the best concert I've ever seen by Jeff, and the whole band was excellent. NOBODY else played guitar in his unique style. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were in the audience, and Eric Clapton joins the band later for a couple of his favorite blues tunes. Magic.
Arguably one of the best rock guitarists.
I really hope and pray that you guys check out the song Cause we ended as lovers from this concert from Ronnie Scott's jazz club. BTW Robert Plant was in the house for this!
I'm pretty sure Jimmy Page was too, and I think I heard Brian May was there. And a lot more of England's elite musicians, because it was JEFF, and they were all amazed by how he kept getting better as he got older (and also there in support of Ronnie Scott, whose legendary club was struggling). RIP Jeff...the world's a little darker place without you. You're also right that "Cause We Ended" would be another GREAT choice for a reaction.
One of my all time favorite drummers Vinnie Colaiuta.
I’m guessing every night playing with Jeff Beck is like a new show to them. They got one job look surprised because they can’t hide it regardless. Nice reaction again guys.
OMG as always with Jeff Beck.
Beck is always good. Thanks, guys.
As I get older and have listened to Kenny Wayne, SRV, Jimi, EVH, Kingfish....you have to play some of him guys...seriously, a 24 year old Blues Guitarist MASTER, Jeff Beck is still my favorite....Buddy Guy....love all guitar Players!
Most iof the guys you mentioned.. beside eddie and jimi..with all due respect.. are pretty one dimensional bro!
This brother is music.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 You had to see him live
Ask any guitarist worth his salt, who the best all around player is.,,,,,It's Jeff Beck None better,,,,, ever!🎸
Another great choice guys!
Jeff Beck is CRIMINALLY underrated on the all time guitar hero lists. Cause he went his own way, which just makes him even cooler.
Wow, really? Depends on who’s being surveyed: if guitarists are being asked, he’s in the top five almost always. If it’s the general public, then in the top 20 from what I’ve seen, depending on the age of the demographic. He was never the lead guitarist of a hyper-popular band ( the bands he was in did well, but not like Zeppelin, Cream, or Guns N’ Roses) his name didn’t resonate in pop culture like Page, Clapton, Van Halen , Slash etc
@@helenespaulding7562 fair play but that’s my point. Since he wasn’t in the spotlight he gets less recognition (from people who aren’t as knowledgeable). From many who know their music, you’re absolutely correct. Also the trips out of “4/4 based blues rock pop” etc.
Forget the lists. Ask the people that matter - the players. True story from the Crossroads festivals. Every time out, the lineups would change, but Jeff would go on right before Eric played last. And Eric had no trouble attracting top-notch players with top-notch egos. Yet, when Jeff went on, they were all crammed in the wings like little fan boys trying to figure out "how the fuck does he DO that"! And poor Eric is slowly steaming thinking "how the fuck am I supposed to get up on stage after THAT"!
Mercy .
That's Beck at the Top of his game .
That ensemble was equally capable :
Tal at the Bass & the living Legend Vinnie Colaiuta (Drums) .
I found this Ronnie Scott's performance on a blu-ray at Costco about 11 years ago -- it's freakin' amazing!! One of the best concert discs ever! And a bonus set of Jeff with the Big Town Playboys doing rock-a-billy, which is one of the guitar styles that got Jeff started as kid (according to an interview on that same disc).
Every guitar guy from the 60's and 70's idolized Jeff Beck. Even guitar heroes like Clapton, Page, Iommi, knew this guy was the real boss of his instrument.
He sounds like no other. What a talent he was.
Jeff Beck was the best, so unique & musical. Like everyone says, you should own the Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's Blue Ray, so much great stuff. See Space Boogie for some great ensemble playing & drum work.
From the first few bars, Jeff's guitar sounded like a whole Army. His style is completely his own. Nobody compares him to any other musician's sound. Unique in the world of music, not to have 'sounds like' said about your playing, eh? Taj is a killer on the bass! What I hear is TALENT! Knocks me out.🎸🥊❗️💯
If you want to see the bass player, Tal Wilkenfeld, shine you should check out Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers from the same performance.
If you ever saw jeff beck in concert, he was determined that you saw the best guitarist in the world, which he was, rip
Every air guitar player loved m. beck, but few serious musicians or critics had much time for him. He himself admitted that he was a 'flash' guitarist.
GOAT!
World class power trio
Beck was very much a musical father figure for Tal. I can't even imagine how devastated she was when he died.
SEEN HIM LIVE FOUR TIMES, DIFFERENT GROUPS...NO BETTER!!!!🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸
Beck never stopped reaching for more from his guitar. No finer player!
Her name is Tal Wilkenfeld, from Australia.
Legend
I thought the bass player Tal was just enjoying what Jeff was doing. Frank Zappa said that drummer Vinnie Colaiuta was one of the best he had worked with. Hope you noticed that Beck doesn't use a pick. Whether you react to it or not, watch his performance of the song "Where Were You" from this same concert, where you can see his technique of playing a melody by manipulating harmonics with his whammy bar.
everybody given love to jeff, tal, and vinnie. What about jason rebello on keys.he kills through this entire show.
I’m still doubled over from the gut punch I took when Jeff died. STRATUS-same show!
Players like Beck and Zappa paid rock a visit from another universe.
She has a great voice also! Check "Killing me"! (Her own song with her own band)
JEFF BECK (🙏RIP🙏) is one of top guitar players of all time!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
YARDBIRDS
JEFF BECK GROUP -ROD STEWART SINGING
BECK, BOGART & APIECE
STUDIO AND SOLO ALBUMS
HE LEFT A LARGE SONGBOOK BEHIND!!🎸🎸📙📗
Tal Wilkenfeld, badass on bass and having so much fun! She was just 21 in this video. They are having a conversation. The song has a chord progression and a structure and both know where they are in the harmony and rhythm. So Beck plays a phrase, often improvised in the moment but derived from the chord progression, saying (with his guitar) "Catch this" and Tal says with her bass, "Yeah, back at you and what about this?!" And so on. Jason Rebello (keys) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) are participating in this and completely locked in, but the dramatic spotlight in this number is on the interplay between Tal and Jeff.
🥺…..I’m still in denial….😩…..☮️❤️
His cover of the Beatles A Day In The Life from this same show is a great if you notice you can catch a glimpse of Jimmy Page in the audience
And Robert too
Beck is one of the most unique and creative electric lead guitarists of all time. NOBODY has ever come close to emulating him. Ritchie Blackmore said of Jeff Beck something along the lines of "His guitar has notes that mine doesn't."
Both Page & Plant were in the audience for this show. You gotta see the whole thing. Beck had a couple vocalists there also, & Clapton showed up to play with him too.
Freeway Jam, Blue Wind, etc... Vinnie C!!!
Shaft reference bumps your reaction up a tier. Keep that going.
You are right "You didn't do that in rehearsal" It is never the same and she just loves seeing what the master comes up with. Sometimes he is joking around and she laughs. That's what i love about the 1st year 2007.
Great reaction. Love the Shaft reference.
Aussie Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. She's something else alright.
Tal, on Bass, is Becks equal, but on bass guitar. I first heard beck back in 1964, the year I started playing drums. In the mid 70's our band opened for him in Cleveland, Oh. RIP Jeff.
The Yardbirds featured Beck, Page and Clapton. They shoululd have been called "Crowded House."
Love JEFF BECK . SOMETIMES HE MAKES ME WANT TO PLAY GUITAR ALL DAY. SOMETIMES HE MAKES ME WANT TO THROW IT AWAY.
Jeff Beck’s best album is called Jeff Beck Group. It has Bob Tench on vocals Max Middleton on keyboards Cozy Powell on drums and Clive Chapman on base. You’ve never heard him play like this before. The entire album is fantastic. It has one instrumental at the very end. All other songs have incredible vocals. It’s one of the best examples of how great guitar player plays with a vocalist. 🕊❤️🎼
In this tiny club, the audience contained both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and Jeff saw them and didnt hold back at all!
Probably my favorite LIVE DVD to play with a good Bourbon.
Vinnie had signed,up to play with Jeff and said i'm bringing a beast on bass. Jeff said, you're bringing a young girlfriend to rehearsal...okay where's our guy? This is our guy, Jeff. And boy, was she!
I saw Jeff on this tour in '89... He and Stevie Ray were co-headlining, and Stevie opened, then came out to jam on "Going Down" by Freddie King.
Try Women of Ireland live at Madison Sq Gardens. Lizzie Ball on violin, packed with emotion
Your guys are 😎 cool!
The band called Death. One album
He plays a guitar like he invented it and everyone else just hasn’t quite figured it out yet.
Kudos to the drummer 2!
Jeff always said he would never have another singer in his band after Rod Stewart left the Jeff Beck band. Jeff thought Rod was one of the best singers in the world. Check them out doing “ Let Me Love You.” Rod’s incredible voice with Jeff’s incredible guitar playing makes this one of the best songs ever recorded. Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stone’s plays Bass guitar on the track.
Bonus? Vinnie Colaiuta on Drums... Tal Wilkenfeld on Bass. The stage is grossly overflowing with some of the best on the planet.
Patient number nine off of Ozzy Osbourne new album has Jeff Beck on guitar Chad Smith from Red Hot chili peppers on drums and Robert Trujillo from Metallica on bass some of Ozzies best work.Beck just tears it up through the whole song
Jeff Beck is a monster 😅
The drummer started out in Frank Zappa’s band.
Also, later in this dvd the camera pans over to Jimmy Page in the audience, iirc.
Both Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were in the audience this night. The camera shows Robert several times.
The master. Guitar Shop lp with Terry Bozzio is a Beck clinic. Also, You guys need to check out Buckethead.
Jeff was the best of the lot. Innovating until the end.
🎸🔥🔥🎸💥💥
Ripping good stuff
Besides being an absolute magician and virtuoso on guitar, what impressed me most about Jeff Beck playing live was that he always looked like he was having such a great time just playing on stage. Tal Wilkenfeld was the perfect bass player for him in that respect in his later career, because she gives off that same energy with every performance.
As you continue your deep dive, you really should check out something from his 'supergroup" collaboration with Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge. They released one studio album "Beck Bogert & Appice" that was a mix of covers including Black Cat Moan and Sweet Sweet Surrender by Don Nix and Superstition by Stevie Wonder and original songs such as Lady. They do a very soulful cover of "I'm So Proud" by Curtis Mayfield as well. Any one of those would be a great selection, or any other song from the album.
I seriously thought the girl playing bass was about 12 years old. Apparently, Tal Wilkenfeld was about twenty when Beck and her first started playing together.
Tal is a phenomenal bass player in her own right. She ranks up there with the alltime greats imho. Story has it she showed up at Beck’s house unannounced bass in hand said I play bass. He invited her in to play and that started a fantastic musical friendship and connection. By the way Vinnie on drums is no slouch either. Played with Frank Zappa. Great band here.
The great Tal Wickenfield on bass & Vinne Colaiuta on drums. Tal is off the charts with talent. She’s definitely on the top of my personal three lady bass players with Angeline Saris & Ronda Smith Oh ya that guitarist is good too
Why stop at female? I think she’s one of the top bassists…..period.
I was trying to give a shout out to the lady’s. That’s why I mentioned Angeline and Rhonda I should have also mentioned Carol Kaye too. But yes Tal is definitely one of the best Have a great day.
The drummer is Vinnie Colaiuto who is one of the best drummers alive today.
This is live at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club London. He had to tone the sound down because it’s a relatively small venue. In the audience was Eric Clapton amongst others. Clapton came on stage and played!
