      Hoo-boy! That's good advice. If you don't turn off auto-home, your laser is going to want to return to its usual corner. And if your rotary lies anywhere along the path of the laser head, there's going to be a crash. (Ask me how I know.)

So far just done a couple of engravings on MDF and some leather which turned out nice. Hope to get some more help by subscribing which I have done. I tried it both ways, original at a 90 degree angle with the top to the left but when burned, it was mirrored. Then I did it again with a mirror image that came out normal. I'm not understanding the logic. :(

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 роки тому +7

      It depends on the control board you have Paw Paw. On some boards you have to mirror the image, others you don't. Two of mine work normally, and two others require mirroring. I won't call them logic boards because there is no logic coming out of China with these diode lasers....

    • @trcknup

      Im glad someone asked this. I mirrored the image on my first tumbler and it started engraving backward. It printed two cap LL s backward toward the bottom of the tumbler. I hit stop right at the end of the second, turned the tumbler 180, mirrored back in lightburn and restarted the process. It burned great. I told the person I gave it to that the reversed L s was a trademark...lol.

    For the double sided...if you just divide the width in two, the logo will snap-to dead center of each 180° face. Zero guesswork or adjustment necessary. So a tumbler that had a 400mm circumference, by 200mm height...if you made two boxes at 200x200...then drop your logo, it'll perfectly center. Then you just adjust your height placement in the top left position section...and done!

    • @CrisAnderson27
      @CrisAnderson27 2 роки тому +1

      @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I'm not sure I'm explaining right. If you split it in four, you have to guess or very carefully find center. If you split it in two, it will snap to the center (where your lines would be otherwise) perfectly. Then you set the height, and done.

    At the end of the burn on a tumbler my laser starts to trace back over the image and doesn't match perfectly so I get these shadow lines of my image. Is this a setting and can it be turned off? Thanks!

      You might have the layer in fill & line mode Chad instead of just fill. If your machine settings are off, this will happen.

    What size laser does it take to do this type of work? Also do hydro flasks etc. work the same with their thicker painted surfaces?

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 роки тому

      Pretty much any size with the right settings. And yes, it works on all tumblers that are coated.

      @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you a ton I’ve been digging for a long time trying to find a specific answer to that question. With that said do you have a recommended wattage? I dont want it to take hours but 20 mins is fine. I’ve been struggling to find if a 10watt laser is worth the money. What is the output on your laser?

    Just a question. This is confusing. I have the comgrow rotary. I saw the written set up you did. Do these settings still apply in lighburn with the comgrow? I guess I'm confused as to the saving setting as comgrow or whatever and not having to turn the rotary function on in lightburn..Or do you have a video for this particular rotary? Thanks

      I will have a video in the next few days for the Z1 rotary James.

      @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Awesome..Thank you sir...Just can't wrap my brain around it..As narrow as the rotary is, doesn't seem it would actually hold a tumbler correctly..

      Cuts and layers tab --> Double Click the layer --> Set Max & Min Power of the image. The higher the difference between the two, the more contrast you get.

    Hi Rich, have you printed any of the Rotary upgrades you are talking about in this video?
    If so, would you like to make the files available on your website or email me so I can make them too?

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 роки тому +1

      No, I haven't printed any yet. I've been super busy and can't even find the time to use the rotary anymore for fun. Once my summertime tumbler customer goes into hibernation for the winter, so does the rotary. Seems I don't get any contracts in the fall or winter from anyone.

    I like seeing the burn, but I think in this scenario it was pointless since the image was rolling away from our field of view.

    I'm baffled why the image has to be reversed.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  Рік тому +1

      It doesn't if you turn the rotary around. The direction of the stepper motor causes the image to reverse.
