By the way, don't forget to *turn off auto-home!* I forgot to mention it because I never use it.
Thanks for the quick response. This helps a lot.
Hoo-boy! That's good advice. If you don't turn off auto-home, your laser is going to want to return to its usual corner. And if your rotary lies anywhere along the path of the laser head, there's going to be a crash. (Ask me how I know.)
Yes I like seeing the actual burn probably speed up but like watching it. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
My pleasure Tom!
Hello Sir. Im in the process of getting to know how to use YRR. Every video helps. Thank you for your time and the great video. I'll be looking for more videos on your channel on the same subject.
I appreciate that, *thanks!*
Hi Rich, I would like to complement you. You have an excellent way of explaining something. I have learned more from your channel than anyone else. Thank you for your time.
Awesome, thank you Nico! And thanks for becoming a Patron! Support like yours keeps the channel going Sir!
The first couple of your videos I saw, I didn't realize the richness and volume of your content. Now I do, and I have subscribed and so now have a lot of videos to watch 🙂. A really great resource. Thanks!
Regarding this video, I went to the Amazon link for these tumblers, and they do not look like the one in the video. Those look painted, and the one in the video looks shiny.
Thanks and welcome Jere. These are coated 304, 18/8 food grade stainless. I don't know what the coating is, but they are in fact the same ones in my video. Perhaps the photos, but I have been buying these for a long time now. The ladies seem to love them.
You are very good I have learned so much even though I haven’t done anything on the laser yet but by watching your videos and learning more and more
Glad to help Gladys!
Always the best videos , just the information I needed , thank you .
Thanks for watching Patrick!
Wow Rich, sorry to hear about the burns. I hope you heal up soon. More good info on using the YRR. My new laser should be here on Monday so I'll be reviewing your tumbler videos while I get it set up. Thanks for the video!
Thank s George, have fun! 👍
Wonderful tutorial videos. I just purchased my first diode laser from TwoTrees 5.5 w. laser. Still in the experiment stage. Also purchased Lightburn software and still getting familiar to it. So far just done a couple of engravings on MDF and some leather which turned out nice. Hope to get some more help by subscribing which I have done. You seem to have excellent knowledge on these laser machine. In this video I saw that it was a mirror image and turned out correct on the tumbler. Still surprised. will keep in touch. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
I bought the Neje 40W (A40640) and changed out my old Universal Blue Laser engraver diode. It's pretty amazing and my cutting area is 1,000mm x 1,000mm.
Very nice! Yes, I love the A40640 Jarod!
It would be nice to see the burn on your projects or at the very least, a photo of the finished project. Thanks for your very concise and informative videos.
I'm not understanding... the entire burn is in the video, along with the cleaning and the final product. It's all there in the video 🤪
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Sorry. I was referring to some of your other videos, possibly earlier, that would have been nice to see the final burn after your tutorial. Love your videos and have learned so much already. After 40+ years in film and video production, your concise instructions and soothing approach are refreshing. Keep up the great work. 👍🏼
Some of them are pure software tutorials which is why you don't see the actual burn process. Mostly earlier videos. Most of the ones I do now are actual maker videos with the final product.
your videos are always very helpful.
Glad you like them!
yes i would like to see the the whole video after you get your new camera and legs good video thank you .
Still playing around with cameras 😎
Another great video! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That came out great
Thank you Al!
This helped a lot thanks! Couldn't understand why my text burn reversed.
Glad it helped!
You are the best!!!! Cheers
Wow, thanks!
So now that this video has come out we won't be able to find the tumblers like we can't find the cutting boards! LOL You have a lot of influence. I see I really need to buy the rotary table. I put vitamin E oil on an injury like that and it healed quickly with almost no scaring.
I certainly hope not Kris! I need my tumblers! 😎 My wife's been treating the grease burns with vitamin E, antibiotic and raw honey and they've shrunk about 50% in just a week or so, mostly healed now. Thanks for the tip!
Are there any tutorials for rotary roller setup for the creality falcon 2 pro 22w? or something simmilar.
Thanks for the great help so far
All roller setup basics are the same, brand or style doesn't matter. You can learn the basics from this video: ua-cam.com/video/etpx6_I3SlE/v-deo.html
Could you do a video for a camera setup on the burn table please. Thank you for all the great content.
I'm actually changing my camera very soon!
First off, let me say, great video! You are truly doing a service to the online lasering community. I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you! My question is why do you have mirror output to rotary in your rotary set up and then your graphic is reversed on screen. Can you turn mirroring off and not have to reverse your graphics?
It depends on your roller, on mine you do, others you don't.
I really appreciate all the help I’ve gotten from your channel. I do have a question for centering though. How do we center graphics to an edge of a box/selection? I’ve come across a couple times where I’ve needed this without making it complicated. I’ll definitely look into your patron stuff. Thanks!
Select the box and the graphic together and then click the align left icon up top, next to the bullseye.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I didn’t see it on the toolbar up top so had to dig to find it, thanks 👍
So helpful as usual! Thank you
Glad it was helpful Mike!
Why do you mirror the image? I do not do that on mine. Please explain. Thanks
I tried it both ways, original at a 90 degree angle with the top to the left but when burned, it was mirrored. Then I did it again with a mirror image that came out normal. I'm not understanding the logic. :(
It depends on the control board you have Paw Paw. On some boards you have to mirror the image, others you don't. Two of mine work normally, and two others require mirroring. I won't call them logic boards because there is no logic coming out of China with these diode lasers....
Im glad someone asked this. I mirrored the image on my first tumbler and it started engraving backward. It printed two cap LL s backward toward the bottom of the tumbler. I hit stop right at the end of the second, turned the tumbler 180, mirrored back in lightburn and restarted the process. It burned great. I told the person I gave it to that the reversed L s was a trademark...lol.
Rich and Paw Paw you guys are great. Dont know where Id be without you. Thank you for what you do.
So slowing down the rotary so you don't get slipping tumblers was lowering white space speed? I feel dumb for asking I did watch your video multiple times just have an issue with intricate line work making the tumbler jump and ruining my project. I have the 10watt xtool D1 with rotary first gen. Big fill projects come out fine, but line work throw it all off with the rapid roller movement. Thank you for your time and videos real life saver!
Yes, that's correct Brian.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you so much! I guess I could have asked you on the forum as I am also a loyal member!!
Nice lookin SELF PORTRAIT, hehe
🤪
Hey Rich, I finally gottay steps per rotation figured out, but my tumbler is bouncing a bit in the rotary and messing up my design. Help!
Try cutting out the fingers of a latex glove and putting them on the jaws Tiffany.
For the double sided...if you just divide the width in two, the logo will snap-to dead center of each 180° face. Zero guesswork or adjustment necessary. So a tumbler that had a 400mm circumference, by 200mm height...if you made two boxes at 200x200...then drop your logo, it'll perfectly center. Then you just adjust your height placement in the top left position section...and done!
Actually you split in in four and use the two middle lines Cris.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I'm not sure I'm explaining right. If you split it in four, you have to guess or very carefully find center. If you split it in two, it will snap to the center (where your lines would be otherwise) perfectly. Then you set the height, and done.
@@CrisAnderson27 I do a demonstration at the end of the video. Split in four, the graphics snap to the middle two lines. We're probably saying the same thing!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I did a quick video this morning to show what I meant. I'd love your thoughts on it. If I'm thinking less efficiently I want to know!

Hi Rich. You are my go-to for all things related to laser engraving. I have a problem with engraving on Tumbler tops. I am using the trial LightBurn Software, when I try to engrave round graphics on the Tumbler tops, my graphics come out slightly compressed (not really round). Would appreciate your expertise on the matter. Thank you very much.
Got the solution from your other video about calibrating the axis. Thanks a lot!!!
Glad you found it!
Which video showed you how to fix it? I am having this issue too! :(
Any updates on doing a tapered burn?
It's really far down my to-do list Emmett.
Is their any way to program lightburn to not have to mirror the images? To just have it burn exactly how you see it in your workspace upon importing?
That's the way it should work, unless you have your origin set wrong in the device settings.
Does lightburn have a built-in taper adjustment feature?
Only for the fiber laser.
Do you have a tutorial for proper engraving of tapered tumblers?
No not yet....
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy "eagerly waiting" 😄
Hello great video. I have a universal brand laser engraver. I want to add a rotary kit but do not know where to plug the wiring. I heard you connect to “y axis is this true. Help please thanks
Yes, you connect the rotary to the Y-Axis. Check the colors of the wires in each plug and make sure they match before you plug it in. Some lasers may require moving the pins to match.
Is there a video out there on the Atomstack R3 and lightburn
Never heard of the R3 Michael. Do you mean the R30?
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy ATOMSTACK R3 Laser Rotary Roller, Laser Engraver Y-axis Rotary Roller Engraving Module for Engraving Cylindrical Objects Cans with 8 Angle Adjustment for Different Size
This is off Amazon
Ah, it's a roller! Well it's gong to be the same as my Co2 roller video except you plug it into the Y axis: ua-cam.com/video/6qxEU7KCVVg/v-deo.html
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy This is great. I knew if anyone knew what I was talking about it would be you. Thank you I appreciate the information.
Question, If you are going to etch a stainless steel tumbler that is not coated (it is silver) do you paint it 1st? (Titanium paint)Or does the etch come out distinct enough to be visible?
I use either Brilliance marking spray or black Tempera paint Tanya.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you so much!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😊😊😊😊
I am curious about the focus height of your laser to achieve a clean burn. I have trouble with banding. Do you run tests to find the best height as well as speed and power? Thank you for the videos.
I focus 2-3mm *above* the optimum focal height on most tumblers to avoid banding.
Thank you for your reply!
Thank you for the videos. I am getting silver streaks on my tumblers that do not come off. Do you have any idea what would cause this? It is almost like the laser is burning into the metal.
No, I sure don't Deanna. Maybe your power is too high?
Hi do you know why my round logo when I laser it on a tumbler comes out a little squiggly and not perfectly round and smooth ???
Yes, your steps per rotation are off.
I guess I'm not catching it, but what was the reason for flipping the image on lightburn?
That's the only way it burns in the right orientation on most (not all) diode lasers.
Great video! Do you have a link to where you can order these tumblers in bulk? Thanks brother
I don't have the link, but I used to get 144 at a time from an AliExpress seller who is no longer on the platform. However, there are tons of other sellers selling the same item in bulk. It's just a long wait time and now with the increase in shipping costs in the last two years, you'd be lucky to even save any money ordering from China anymore.
Try Stainless Steel Depot
hi do you do a burn test if so wich one do you use please (newbie)
Yes, I sacrifice one piece of everything I do! I make my own tests. Check out my other videos where I show you how.
How much do you charge to engrave a mug or glass if the customer provides the glassware
$19.95 Becky.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy is that per glass ?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe if you flip your YRR 180 degrees you may not have to flip your image.
That wouldn't effect the inversion Giovanni.
Can a 5w comgro do this? Mine burns the powder coat, but not to the stainless steel. It also leaves burn marks. I know settings are different but can you give me a setting to start from? Also the ones you are using don't look powder coated. What are they? Thank you so much.
This was done on a 5W. They're baked enamel, stainless steel. All tumblers are different, so what works for me may not work for you. I run a test grid on almost every batch I buy to get my settings and they're almost always different.
I’m new to this engraving hobby and will be doing a lot of wood travel mugs that I make and turn on my lathe. I’m getting ready to test my first mug and watched the video. I’m confused about the inverted graphic. Why inverted?
Most diode lasers mirror the graphic in the output for the roller accessory. You have to test yours to see if it does the same thing and you can control it in the rotary tools.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thanks for the reply. I’ll let you know what I find. I recently purchased the Laser Master 2 Pro with the 10w laser.
I’m having issue with a trace line messing up my prints
You can sign up for the Forum and get help there: lahobbyguy.com/bb/
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thanks I’m about do that now. Just sent over some TikTokers here to your page also
Thanks!!
At the end of the burn on a tumbler my laser starts to trace back over the image and doesn't match perfectly so I get these shadow lines of my image. Is this a setting and can it be turned off? Thanks!
You might have the layer in fill & line mode Chad instead of just fill. If your machine settings are off, this will happen.
What size laser does it take to do this type of work? Also do hydro flasks etc. work the same with their thicker painted surfaces?
Pretty much any size with the right settings. And yes, it works on all tumblers that are coated.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you a ton I’ve been digging for a long time trying to find a specific answer to that question. With that said do you have a recommended wattage? I dont want it to take hours but 20 mins is fine. I’ve been struggling to find if a 10watt laser is worth the money. What is the output on your laser?
Just a question. This is confusing. I have the comgrow rotary. I saw the written set up you did. Do these settings still apply in lighburn with the comgrow? I guess I'm confused as to the saving setting as comgrow or whatever and not having to turn the rotary function on in lightburn..Or do you have a video for this particular rotary? Thanks
I will have a video in the next few days for the Z1 rotary James.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Awesome..Thank you sir...Just can't wrap my brain around it..As narrow as the rotary is, doesn't seem it would actually hold a tumbler correctly..
a bit lost where do i find 300 dpi plus black in graphic to 80% ??? please
Cuts and layers tab --> Double Click the layer --> Set Max & Min Power of the image. The higher the difference between the two, the more contrast you get.
Sorry just realized it’s on Amazon..I’ve been trying to find them in bulk like 24 plus in a pack
There's virtually no savings anymore buying in bulk.
I have done everything on setup and I still can not get the roller to turn
Join my free forum and ask there. lahobbyguy.com/bb/
Hi Rich, have you printed any of the Rotary upgrades you are talking about in this video?
If so, would you like to make the files available on your website or email me so I can make them too?
No, I haven't printed any yet. I've been super busy and can't even find the time to use the rotary anymore for fun. Once my summertime tumbler customer goes into hibernation for the winter, so does the rotary. Seems I don't get any contracts in the fall or winter from anyone.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Hi Rich, thanks for your response. I hope you still have time to make beautiful films for everyone about the Ortur Laser Master 2.
Regards, Fred
I like seeing the burn, but I think in this scenario it was pointless since the image was rolling away from our field of view.
Lots of things I do turn out to be pointless Chris! I'm no video producer, that's for sure!
I'm struggling with understanding why the image (logo) needs to be mirrored. You were clear it's needed I'm not following the logic. Do you mind explaining?
I'm not sure why enabling the attachment does this, it just does.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Got it. Thanks for the reply. I am going to try my first tumbler later today. Wish me luck.
@@kenveach6741 *Good luck!*
I'm baffled why the image has to be reversed.
It doesn't if you turn the rotary around. The direction of the stepper motor causes the image to reverse.
