I've always leaned on the preference of the 70s version, but this 60s version changes my mind.
Got one of these not so long back and I prefer it to my Fender MIM P bass, it played perfectly out of the box and didnt need any set up at all. Would definitely reccommend it to anyone who was thinking of buying one!

I just ordered one of these CV 60's P's yesterday.I based my choice in good part on your analysis but mostly because of the tone which really sits well with my ears. As for which one I prefer, the 60's or the 70's CV. Its the 60's for me, Why? because I found the 70's tone to be a bit too edgy, maybe more suitable for rock styles. I like the warmer, smooth and soulful vibe on the 60's model. BTW I also watched your excellent comparison of all the Squier bass guitars on the market. Very interesting and really sold me on the CV 60's P. Thank again Tyler. B
I replaced the electronics in my classic 60s vibe to cts. Changed the bridge to a high mass yesterday. Today I'm putting the old bridge back on because it lost its soul. Waiting on custom 60s coming from U.S. but this bass is rocking as it is. Best sounding p bass I've had and I've had loads.
Neil Morrow I think that simple fender bridge really works for that fender tone, it’s a surprisingly important element. T

I like it a lot, killer looks and tone, I'm getting this model for Christmas, it reminds me of the one John Deacon from Queen used, who is my favourite bassist
They did a great job on that tortoise shell, maybe it's just me, but it looks better than those used on the Fender USA's.. nice and dark; a bit of flame rather than the grainy/spot type of tort. Neck looks nice too, really appreciate the close up shots of the neck and the body of this bass.

Da forest Jeje, aunque tomará su tiempo. COP y PEN son monedas con fluctuaciones muy parecidas. El dólar supo estar a más de 4000COP pero ahora está en 3700 COP. Yo realmente creo que es un muy buen bajo, vale mucho la pena. Le voy a poner unas cuerdas (y mandar ajustar por un Luthier) flats porque me gusta mucho el Motown. Sí lo compras estoy seguro que te va a gustar. Yo ya tengo un Warwick con pegada muy rockera pero este tiene una profundidad que me impactó y no me esperaba. :)

Sounds as good as my MIM Fender Player Series.
This and the 60s jazz version are really great basses. The pickups, electronics and bridge are only pretty good, so it's a perfect mod project. The bodies and necks are outstanding. Poplar is a good tonewood. I have 4 , 2 precision and 2 jazz basses.

60s P bass sound so good
Sounds great with the tone at 50%. This is just pure speculation, but I like to think when Leo Fender and his team designed the P-Bass, they designed the tone control to run at 50%, and either boost or cut the treble. Lots of people just turn everything up to ten and then they wonder why the P-Bass sounds so thin. But, then again, that's me.

I've just bought one of these! I'm a guitar player, but I'd like to learn how to play the bass properly and not just like a guitar player (if that makes sense haha). I've got so into acoustic fingerstyle, and playing with my fingers has led me to be interested in learning bass for fun
Interesting! I’m currently going the other way in my spare time and using my bass finger style technique to give me a grounding in finger-style acoustic! These are great basses and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it ! T

It’s basically an American Made Bass because it’s a made in Japan series and both Basses are built with the same components and basically it’s a Made in USA Bass for a bargain!

Hi, Tyler. Great video! I've also watched your video of the Squier Classic Vibe 70s Precision Bass. It sounds like you prefer the 60s P-bass over the 70s P-bass. Am I right?
I've been playing the guitar for more than 30 years, but now I'm spending more time with my (awful) Ibanez bass, so I want to get a better bass guitar.
I noticed when you talked about the neck, you said it could be a bit difficult for a not so experienced player. Would you still recommend the 60s bass (because of the build quality and the other great things you mention in this video) to someone who's not very experienced, or should I go for the 70s bass?
I really liked the sound from this one, by the way.

Favorites definitely 50% tone with foam
I own this bass and love the feel and sound of it. Unfortunately the jack plug busted after just 4 days and it seems like a short thread so have ordered a new part with a longer thread. Also considering upgrading the pick ups, pots and machine head as I progress as a player.
Was unlucky with the quality control but already love the bass too much to swap it lol.

Is there anything Fender or squire that has a reputation for quality? (Preferably a Jazz bass but I can be flexible on that if necessary).
I own this bass. It did come with loose knobs, which I had to remove and tighten. Swapped the strings for flats and I play with 0% tone. Love it tho 👌🏼
The quality control and consistency definitely varies. Hard to go wrong with this bass overall though! T

Thank you again my man! I’m using 1.14mm Jim Dunlop Tortex picks. I was a big Duff McKagan fan growing up and he always used the 0.73mm. As I got older I found that was a little too bright and bass-less for me and have gradually shifted through 1mm to 1.14mm. These are the perfect balance for me, but the amount I play with a pick is quite rare. Maybe one or two songs a set? T
I'm loving these Squier videos, very informative and helpful. Have you tried the Squier Contemporary Jazz Bass (the passive one)? I'm really interested in it but unable to go out and give it a try and I can't find anyone talking about them.

I have a MIM Fender 70s FSR which is very nice but tempted to get one of these as I had a Squier Classic Vibe 60s bass a few years back and sold it. Regretted it ever since as it had such a great fast neck. Would like a American Original 60s precision but crazy expensive and I think some of the Squiers are just as good.
I’m a sucker for the original 60s - I think it’s a really classy feeling bass, but you can definitely get 85% of that tone from the squier without upgrades and the neck is the opposite of sleek and fast on the Squier (but that’s part of what I love haha!). Those 70sFSRs are awesome! T

Thank you! The jazz has more sounds available, but you have to work out what’s the right sound for each situation (or for your taste). The P bass on the other hand will work for pretty much any genre, but you’ve gotta love the sound as there’s not so much you can do. You can’t go wrong with either, and if you keep playing, you’ll probably own both eventually! T
Without a doubt the thinnest neck of all basses have you ever compared Fender and Squier models I did and curious of what other think of what differences are between the two

Thanks Zach! Your support is appreciated! If you really like yours keep hold of it. If you really want to upgrade it, pickups followed by tuners. I wouldn’t upgrade the bridge - to be honest I’m not a massive believer in bridge upgrades unless you’re really unhappy with a bass - it can really change its feel. T

Thank you! They come with fender strings I believe. Totally decent strings, but if you’re going for a punk thing, some stainless steel rotosounds would be what I associated with them! T

It’s also a little warmer sounding which I prefer, but they’re both solid basses, just slightly different flavours of the same basic tone. T

I think Squier made a revision on the jack plug. My late 50s Classic Vibe Precission Bass was just delivered a few hours ago. I was expecting some loose, low-quality jack plug based on the reviews. Not anymore. It feels quite ok, nice quality.
Is the jack still ok one year later?
I briefly held a few Player Series basses today, and wasn’t that impressed. I have a VM 70s Jbass and the fret ends on that feel smoother than most of those Player basses.I have even more doubt now about buying a Player Series. I’m thinking CV is the way to go.
When you played slap style with the tone rolled all the way off, it sounded like you had an auto-wah on string 1. Is that something to do with UA-cam compression, or does it actually sound like that?

im looking at the left handed version of this. ugh i hate how untransparent they are with the woods... how would you compare it to the affinity series? I had both guitar versions but not the bass. The bodies were supposedly alder and pretty solid for the price. For double the affinity I expect it to be build twice as tight...

But criticism of a P bass for having a P bass neck seems weird.
@@powbobs I could name you a lot more bass guitars that I have owned and played down the years that have the same problem.
Just because it's a P bass doesn't mean it's perfect in every way, and some P necks are not for everyone.
They only thing IMO is the sound, you cant beat it.
You should try the Pre-china Squier CV bass. The build quality, tone and playing feel are much better than discontinued fender mim std. You also can't believe they match the new fender Player bass QC , 2008 vs 2018 ！！！ The new Indonesia CV bass just a rebranding Vintage modified bass with tall vintage fret wires, low cost tuning mechines, low cost threatsaddle bend bridge....... but better control knobs.
Yeah, bought one and the bridge I could get a credit card under on one side and when that tightened the bridge was way off, so check you're bass on imperfections, I brought it back and bought a Sire instead.

I always recommend the tuners get an upgrade on the Squier basses. I wouldn't worry about the bridge! I think the pickup in these are decent - if you wanted to upgrade, something like the Aguilar 60s would be a good option. T

HI Tyler, I've recently got this bass, I like the sound but feel like there's not enough low end, so I have to boost bass on EQ to make it sound closer to my other instrument. Do you think it's worth upgrading the stock pickup to something pricier like Lollar, Fralin pickup? Is there a huge difference in sound?
Hey! There will be a solid improvement, no doubt. There’s always the option to roll off the tone slightly on a passive fender as that will give you a bass boost… Maybe give that a try too? T

Is your custom shop bass the Pino Palladino Signature?? It looks killer. I just got the 60s CV Precision Bass and I love the neck, nice and chunky at 1.685 by the nut compared to the 1.5 in width of a jazz bass. It might not be a full 1.715 of a vintage fender p bass but it is a modern p neck no doubt.
Hey Don, it’s not, but almost! It’s a 1959 NOS Custom Shop Precision. It’s a 59 oval neck unlike the 62 on the Pino, it’s a 59/62 hybrid pickup instead of the 62 in the Pino and it was built as new (hence NOS), so no relic-ing. Yeah the CV60s P has a great feel to the neck, I was just really impressed with this bass! T
The full nut width of a late 50’s P bass is actually 1.75” not 1.715”. Note that a lot of 5-string basses have nut widths of 1.77”, like the Stingray 5.

Is the same bass still available?
This is one of the newer ones isnt it? I played one when they first came out. Very good basses for the Monet but not quite up to the original CVP bass IMO. Didn’t quit like the neck compared to my 2007 version. Ive read these are more a cross between the VM and CV range.
Dave Pearce yes! A very recent build. But a very well built and finished bass! How was the neck on your original?
The necks on my CVP and Jazz from 2007 are so good. Ive had the jazz neck on quite a few of my other basses. The big selling point for me was the vintage style frets, which I believe the later ones don’t have. Both my CVs now have new pups, Fender CS in the jazz, DP122 in the P, and both have Gotah 201 bridges. The tuners and nuts are original, and none have given me any issues over about 100+ gigs.

It does, although sometimes a bit too much. I used to have a EMG GB in it, which is my fav ‘fender’ sounding P pup. That’s in my Fender now.
I’ve watched your videos for both 60s cv precision and 70s precision. In both videos you said it’s the best squier you have played. So which one is the best?
60s! Chronologically it was the best at the time, but the 60s was reviewed second and took the crown. That particular bass remains the best Squier I’ve played, and I think it’s unlikely it will be beaten - everything on it was flawless. As good as it could be without upgraded/better parts. T

Jaromír Šmíd yes! The CV70s is significantly slimmer. The CV60s feels more like a traditional P profile - thicker. T
How do you feel it compares with the Squier CV 70s P-Bass? Is it more of a cosmetic difference? (I mean, not considering the build quality in the specific bass reviewed in this video, because I'm guessing you got lucky...)
Tonally different with that maple board. The 70s is a lot brighter, more aggressive and a little less punchy in the low mids. The 60s had a much more vintage feel and sound, as well as being a little more mellow. I preferred the 60s, but if your taste is for a brighter sound and a smaller neck on a P, the 70s is gonna be for you. T
Did this one impress you abit more than the white one you reviewed before Tyler?
It did - a lot more. I’m wondering if the different body wood suits the pickup better, as well as the better standard of fit and finish. It gives it a little more hi-mid clarity and balanced out with the very warm pickup. T

Amazing stuff! I’m not. It’s great stuff, but the Aguilar stuff works for me. I think I went far into the science of the BF stuff and kinda forgot that at the end of it all, it’s just a way of achieving a sound and tone. 2x112 is all I’ve ever needed and matching it all up really worked for me. I got to the sound in my head with less tweaking with the Aggie stuff. T
Different horses I think mate, I'm liking my bb2 by barefaced, but to get the most out of it ya do need an amp that puts out lots of watts

Different characteristics! The 70s is more growly, the 50s not as punchy, but smoother sounding. It depends on what you like. Kirsten to them all in my videos and buy the one that you like the sound of most! If you don’t know - buy this one! T

I have. A quick question, the stock pickup that come in this bass is “ Fender® Designed Alnico Split Single-Coil “ is it better than this pickup model “ Fender ‘63 Precision Pickups “ this one is made with 5 Alnico Magnet which is better ?
The Fender 63 is the “better” pickup, but it’s all sound, so if you like the sound of this one, stick with it! T

Just curious Tyler. ICS or ISS serial number? Apparently the ISS serials are better.
I don’t know the answer to this! I will have a look next time I go back to the store to pickup another bass for review (if it’s still there 🤞). What’s the supposed difference between them? T
Apparently the early ones were built by Cort and have an ICS serial and the current ones are built by Samick, have an ISS serial, and are supposed to be better built than the Cort-built ones. I also believe that the Cort-built ones were built in the same Indonesian factory as the old VM series as both this bass and my ‘13 VM Jazz have the exact same issue with the 18th fret on the G string. I don’t play there so it doesn’t matter anyways for now.
I have a Cort-built with ICS serial. As you were saying it’s a great sounding and playing bass. Mine did have some QC issues though irt the weirdly mounted bridge (front corners very slightly in the air), a nut with a too-low A string cut , and one high fret. I did negotiate a good deal with my local dealer though so it’s golden.👍🏻
I liked what you said about it’s bloom and such. I also find that to be the case...and highly addicting. I put GHS Precision Flats on mine and those turned it into a lo-mid beast. The flats give me so much control over that bloom that it’s just delicious. Feel for days.😎
This is the first bass I’ve owned where I ride the tone control around so much because it actually works well compared to others that are often more akin to an on/off switch ime. Also, like many basses, ymmv tonally according to the amp that you play it through. I rented this bass last fall, played it through a modelling/digital amp, and HATED the tone. I tried it again in March through a better amp and suddenly there was tonal bliss. I also am a big believer in finding the right set of strings for a given bass’s voice.
In spite of the QC issues I have zero regrets getting this bass. Plays nice, sounds good, looks great! Solid deal!👍🏻

Awesome stuff! I’ll definitely find out. I think this model is likely an ISS as it’s a recent build but I will confirm and get back to you. Either way the finish on the one was impeccable and I was in shock! The tone control goes a long way on these and that was a delight - it felt like a proper tone control should! T
The American fender pro is 4 times the price of this but I honestly can't tell the difference in sound,
