Kids play it for their suburbs.
My brother, cousins, uncles and great uncles played, it is a very old game, older than NFL and basketball.
Its an old game .To put it in perspective Aussie Rules was codified before the American Civil war started . Codified 1859 .
Hell yeah, best game in the world - also one of our best kept secrets given the time difference and how isolated Australia is from the rest of the world.
As others have said, AFL is played in the US at an amateur level for 25 years, there's between 40 and 50 clubs throughout the US some include a women's league, check out usafl. My two kids play AFL for a local club in Western NSW (approximately 200km west of Sydney), Mr 13 has played 2 seasons and Miss10 played her first season this year, both are looking forward to next year's season. Currently in America, there approximately 52 men's teams spread across the country; they play regional matches and national finals, atleast half of the men's teams also have women's teams.
I'm glad to hear you want to see the women's league they worked hard to get one and finally did in 2017 the AFLW and it made me interested in football again.

Everyone who sees it for the first time thinks its a bunch of other sports rolled into one . However it's older than just about all the other sports . It was codified way back in 1859 by a man called Thomas Wills . He made it to keep his cricketers' fit , thats why its played on a Cricket oval. It also has a resemblance to an Aboriginal game called Marn Grook , probably why so many indigenous players excel so well at it . There is one American , Mason Cox , that has successfully transitioned to AFL. He plays for Collingwood that won last years premiership so he's the first to do so. Don't believe in never , is a documentary on his story.
It really is a great game of athleticism , endurance , skill and tactics. Every size of person can play as there is positions that suit everyone.
The ladies are awesome to watch as they have gotten much better over the last few years , and their little shorts are cute.
They should explain that it is each team that is 18 players and maybe one day they will properly explain the bouncing the ball rule.You must bounce the ball BEFORE you run more than 15 metres.

Mason is actually the 2nd to make it successfully into the AFL, and the 3rd overall to play Aussie Rules. Jason Holmes played a few matches at St. Kilda before Mason debuted.

Sanford Wheeler was the first African-American to play in the AFL. He played 43 games for the Swans in the late 80’s early 90’s.

You’re wrong about Americans can’t play this game, Mason Cox an American from Texas has been playing AFL for 8 years now and plays for the Collingwood Magpies ( black and white vertical stripe jumpers ) he is a premiership player now as the magpies won the grand final this season ( 2023 ). For over 25 years America has had the "USAFL" comprised of 40 different leagues, including a women's league. Now because it's amateur it's nowhere near as brutal as our game. It's more of a social game with beers and barbecues afterwards. I think you would love it.
AFL was codified in 1859, before any of the other sports, so it came before soccer, rugby, NFL, basketball etc. Glad you're a fan. Cheers🇦🇺🦘🐨
