I have got the Hilleberg Nammatj 2 Dan and last winter i was side by side with my mate who has the Kuiu Storm Star and while the Nammatj stood up well in the wind , it was flapping and the Storm Star was Bomb Proof solid and there was absolutely no sign of any flapping. It's a very impressive tent indeed.
@@marcfavell No, still open gateway for critters. You may have dodged a bullet as the clips issue is a dealbreaker for me, unfortunately I'd already bought it.
@@marcfavell It is designed for Mountain severe winter, where mosquitoes are not an issue. However nothing stopping you adding mesh yourself for a very low cost.
I've got a Storm Star and it's the business. Stood up to everything I've thrown at it and fills me with confidence, so well worth the money and I'd buy the same again in a heartbeat. Can't recommend enough.
This is my favorite tent for high mountain travel. While I have several very strong mountaineering tents, this one is almost as strong at 1/2 the weight! It’s a great tent and from time to time they put them on sale. I got mine for 376 pounds plus shipping.
In the right circumstances, the Stormstar is hard to beat. I use it for canoe camping where the weight isn't an issue. I wouldn't want to carry it for an extended backpacking trip (I use a Scarp 1 for this) but for shorter trips in bad weather the stability, room and ability to pitch it 'from the ground up' make it worth carrying. For me, one of the big advantages is the tautness of the inner, nearly as good as that of an inner first pitching tent like the Terra Nova Quasar. Previously I had a Hilleberg Soulo but although it stood up to wind well, the flapping of the inner wasn't conducive to a good sleep. There is a technique to closing the clips and during a 13 night trip on the Yukon they were never a problem. As others have commented, the higher level zips on the inner are not vents but allow access to the vents on the fly so in inclement weather you can close the vents on the outer without leaving the inner. Therefore putting mesh on the inner openings would be counter-productive. There are two massive mesh panels on the inner doors to vent the inner.
I've had this tent for a few years and had it out in some strong winds and epic rain. It had held up really well in all conditions. No flapping which for me makes a huge difference. I think it's an absolute cracking tent. Enjoy :-)
Hi mate, the zips near the vents are there so you don't have to get out of the tent to open and close them!! If you need it venting just zip open the four season door
I live 5 mins away from Bosley Cloud, amazing views all round, and spent many a night up there, looking at the stars and watching fireworks on Bonfire night. Also just bought the Kuiu Storm Star, might try it out up The Cloud.
Hi Dan , I think it could be a great idea to stick waterproof tape that matches the pockerts on the tent , onto the ends of the Poles to show which one goes where , for when its getting Dark ? 🤔🤨
At that price its for serious campers, myself for £500+ i would want valet parking, meals, dancing girls & unlimited breakfast for a year 😂, nice one Dan 👍
I remember the days when my parents used electrical insulation tape (my dad was an electrical engineer) to mark out which bit of the pole went where, as nothing was connected to anything else. Myself and my siblings would be out playing cricket or exploring, while my parents swore their way through pitching the tent, and setting up inside😂
That's a nice tent Dan. Setting up in the wind I think personally it's down to experience. The tent doesn't make it difficult, not knowing how does lol 👍
Completely worth every penny. And if you think the price tag is alot, save up for one you wont regret it or sell your other tents and just have this one.
Absolutely agree with you re the tents worth! All the comments from people here saying it is too expensive clearly have no idea of the prices of comparable products from other manufacturers such as Terra Nova, North Face, Hilleberg etc which are all MORE expensive (I have a Hilleberg and friends have Terra Nova's, and the Kuiu is easily their equivalent in quality, and better in design, obviously all in my opinion)

The lack of mesh on the vents prevented me years ago from purchasing this tent. Sad to see it's not been updated. Other than that it looks a fine tent. Enjoy.
It's totally not an issue because in warm weather you can open the outer vents and vent the inner with the massive mesh doors instead for cross flow ventilation. The zips on the inner are just to access the vents, not to vent the inner itself.
Like the video on the tent my mate got one he said they should have mesh near the vents nice and roomy inside the tent great video on KUIU 2 person tent Dan.

Thanks Dan,Interesting review. I've never taken much notice before but after watching the Blot Outdoors Show the other day he mentioned that unlike you, who reviews tents, etcetera mostly to get freebies and offers from companies, he has decided not to take advantage of his massive following. I think he has a good point and has gained a lot of respect from his fans. You say that you paid for this tent out of your UA-cam payments, which is a good way of offsetting your tax, but of course, you are entitled to do that. However, would you ever consider being like Blot (Chris) and put a stop accepting freebies as well as what you are earning from YT? Daniel is far from a fool. He works hard and puts a great deal of effort into his channel.
The fact that he's spent his own money to show his subscribers what they get for their buck and then gives his items back to his subscribers makes him a very generous and intelligent UA-camr.
