Except instead of eating I was 12 cooking for the family and getting smacked upside the head while doing the dishes - as middle played Nintendo for hours until dinner was served, and youngest destroyed all the middle’s toys with no consequences.
Now I have 3 and they might try to lie and say this is their life too lol, but I do try to smack and love on them all equally! Haha 🙃 Equal, but not the same. I TRULY try my darndest cause the way I grew up was actually damaging. Each generation should do and be better! 😊💖

I'm the oldest of 3. My wife is the youngest of 3. We have one kid, with a second on the way. I grew up around families that were bigger than all three of the aforementioned groups put together. And I can say this with certainty. This is true. It's all true. It's even funnier in bigger families because it becomes this spectrum of "berated for existing" to "forgotten" at the second to last. It's only the very youngest that is actually treated as "the baby" and I'm convinced that it's simply because the parents have raised enough kids at that point that they're exhausted and don't any more f--ks to give about it. Kids are resilient. They'll be fine as long as we can keep them out of the knives and fire.

My oldest bro had to bear the brunt of our parents all the time and also take care of me and my younger brother all through his growing up years and adulthood. But, he was rewarded for it later on his life by a very successful career and a loving , caring wife. God always bless him with even more happiness and bliss.❤

Shoutout to all the older siblings out there who helped forge a path in life for their younger siblings, and worked hard to guide them. Even if they're too young to recognize it yet, one day they'll be able to look back and appreciate your protection and sacrifices.
Shoutout to all the middle siblings who had to take being oft overlooked in stride, saddled with following in your older sibs footsteps AND helping to guide the younger one(s). The mediator role often falls on you, for better or for worse. When you're all grown and separated, they'll remember things you did/things about you that you never thought they noticed, all with love.
Shoutout to all the youngest siblings, keeping their elders on their toes while bringing new energy to the family dynamic. You're not an after thought, you're the culmination of many years working together and finding the best ways forward so you could push boundaries your older siblings never had the opportunity to consider. Learn from them, while making use of the freedom granted.
(Obviously I'm aware these words don't apply to every family, read with a pinch of salt or whatever. Also for any curious, I'm the youngest of 5 but spent a good majority of my childhood living like an only child as the next oldest (other than my late brother a year older) is nine entire years my elder. Now we're all grown up but still talk and visit often, despite going through ups and downs and even hating each other sometimes as kids.)

It's great being the first, but once you're not the only, we're the parent's punching bag for every bad decision they've ever made. Alcoholic step-dad, the alcohol was my fault. I had to move back home and he went right back to leaving Cinderella chore notes. Both the middle and youngest were doted on. So, add in a divorce and the middle child ends up being the golden one.
