I learned a year or two ago from a UA-camr that rabbis could not be a rabbi without being married, which pointed to that as evidence that Jesus WAS married. That Jesus was accepted as a rabbi by the community and therefor it is the evidence in and of itself. So many things make more sense when we understand the laws and customs of the times.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have a divorced daughter with 4 boys who is working her guts out with 2 jobs to provide the best she can. She'd absolutely LOVE to move out, and so would her boys, but she grudgingly has to admit that she can't make it out there. Likely, any successful attempt will be met with a failure in the not too distant future with the economy looking like it is, and she'd find herself back at mom and dad's. I'm a truck driver, so my saint of a wife helps out watching boys all she can. I've told her I'd love to be able to walk around the house in my Gs, but that's just not reality right now, nor will it be for a long time, if ever. Family has to do what it has to do.

Part of me wants to get family together and purchase a fertile piece of land in the Midwest and put up many small Amish cabin kits (has electricity and running water) and make a family homestead, work the farm and homeschool. Why don’t we do this? A Zion covenant keeping society like that would be far greater and focused more on the things that truly matter most. Only we are soo focused on having all the amenities of Babylon. It’s not pure isolation, the excess of our industry would provide for the surrounding communities and network and trade. Still participate in sports. Still part of the community but there is more fulfillment in that self sustainability and role in families. That is the life in my opinion. That is building up a great generation.

To all the naysayers. Me and my wife moved to the country where we homeschool our three kids. We have given up our hobbies and interests to teach the kids while I work. We don't eat out and it is a humble life. But we are living the dream.
This life is challenging, but it is possible for those willing to work hard and live in a small home on a couple acres.

I don't know where you live, but 2 acres in Utah would cost over $200K. My grand daughter and her husband just want one acre and can't find anything under $100K. Add a house and it immediately shoots up to almost $1/2 million.

I'll start by saying we really enjoy listening to your thoughts. We love that you unabashedly speak your mind and speak up for truth.
I know that Sister Freeman was writing and DB was publishing and selling her books prior to her call. Maybe that's why she's allowed to continue... because it was a "pre-existing condition" so to speak? I admit I've had my own musings on the subject. Back in 2017 Elder Devin Durrant (at the time a member of the Quorum of the 70) gave a talk in General Conference that I think was titled Ponderize. By the time GC was over there was a website where "Ponderize" journals and other accessories were being sold as an aid to help one Ponderize scriptures. Well, it didn't take longer than a day or 2 for the Church to shut it down. They also made Elder Durrant make a public apology for capitalizing on a GC talk. Yet now David Ridges and EBF can make and sell merchandise for their Don't Miss This podcast, which is, IMO, capitalizing on a Church program (or whatever we're calling it these days . I'm referring to Come, Follow Me.) AND... Of all the members of the Church who are making podcasts (aka making money) off of Come, Follow Me - how did DB decide to publish stuff for the Don't Miss This podcast but not any other podcasts? I don't get it. Also, this is just my opinion, but I think if people are making money from C,FM podcasts that could possibly border on priestcraft. 2Nephi 26:29 says, "priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion." Though some might argue that they have the welfare of Zion in mind, I think it's debatable.

I have been writing speeches for my campaign, and my mind keeps going to the rising generation, what future do they have? Where do we think everything is going? I consider the Israelites in Egypt who incrementally came under bondage until the Lord delivered them, but then their heart failed them, they were dependent on Egypt for soo long, they didn’t know how to handle God given liberty and the amount of attention and work that requires, it was easier for them to be in bondage to man. Is this what is happening to us and our rising generation? You mentioned housing prices and it reminded me of this. Still listening, love your thoughts and insights!

I agree! Our young family was welcomed into my parents home when we were in school and transitioning jobs. It made ALL the difference and my children developed an amazing, close relationship with their grandparents! When we had the opportunity, we intentionally found a home that would accommodate a basement apartment so we could bless our own children in a similar way. Several of them have lived with us over the years and we have LOVED IT!! It feels like the law of consecration to “pay it forward” and help our kids as we were helped. Our youngest daughter and her young family are currently living in our basement apartment and we have an amazing close relationship with those sweet granddaughters. The circle of life! What a blessing!
Your comments about the economy and limited options for these young couples who missed the “purchase” window on affordable homes is spot on. They are both working jobs and doing their best. Hopefully the windows of heaven will open for them as they did for us and help them get their financial footing. In the meantime, this works, and we are grateful!! ❤

Elder Bednar Oct. 2020 Gen Conf
“Some Church members opine that emergency plans and supplies, food storage, and 72-hour kits must not be important anymore because the Brethren have not spoken recently and extensively about these and related topics in general conference. But repeated admonitions to prepare have been proclaimed by leaders of the Church for decades. The consistency of prophetic counsel over time creates a powerful concert of clarity and a warning volume far louder than solo performances can ever produce.”
This was obviously about preparedness but certainly applies to all prophetic counsel (scriptures included). Marriage is a good example.

We are selling furniture and giving stuff away so they can have 3 bedrooms and downstairs family room. They just can't save any money right now. We're happy to be able to help them out, but it will be an adjustment for all. These are the times were in, our two youngest will struggle to ever be able to get a house, sadly.

I tell my kids go forward in faith. Do the right things and God will bless you. So far it’s worked out. Budget, pay your tithing, bring children into the world and work your butt off and it will work out. My kids have had so many blessings. In North Carolina an elderly couple let my kids, with two little kids live with them! They first lived in a pool house, no real kitchen, and my son in law did landscaping for the owner. At the same time, he trained with a dentist to be a lab worker at 5am and then worked at Carrabba’s. That kid worked his butt off to make a life with my daughter. To see the Lord’s hand in their life was a miracle to me!

I love watching and hearing from you! I agree with so much you have to say and I love that your are ruff around the edges. You shared a bit ago how you come to Wyoming to the Big Sandy and I knew you were my kind of people. I have often wondered if Christ was married and I found your views very interesting. I have a question for you. I watched your video on your granddaughter and how her life aligned with the eclipse and your guest was Alley, I believe, that episode had so much of an impact on me. I’m getting to the question. I was touched with some of the things that Alley shared and I tried to share it with other family members. I received criticism and told our church support astronomy, but it does archaeology or vice versa. I can’t remember really bothered me that i received negative criticism from family members I thought what was shared was beautiful. Just wanted to get your thoughts on archaeology and astronomy and what the differences and what the church believes I just love you and adore you. Thanks for all you do and I love seeing your wife on there too.

    • @watcherpalmerlds
      @watcherpalmerlds  5 місяців тому

I think what some your family members might be referring to is the church not supporting astrology but does support astronomy. Allie Duzett looks to the heavens for signs and settings. This could be looked at as astrology. Some think of astrology as fortune telling. There is an imitation of astrology that the world uses. I personally do not feel anything Allie does is in contrast to the Church or doctrine or gospel of Christ, but i can see where some in the church would think she is "out there". Astronomy is more of the science of looking at the heavens without looking for signs. The heavens were created for signs and seasons and light. That is good enough for me. That is recored in Genesis 1:14-15. The Wise Men from the east looked to the heavens to see the sign of the birth of Jesus. Samuel the Lamanite told of the heavenly signs of Christ's birth and death. We too have signs. We are part of God's greatest creations. i hope this is helpful. Love

I live in a community south of Atlanta, Georgia. The housing market here is crazy! Young people buying starter homes are paying more than $300,000 for a "starter home". If they can't afford to buy, and have to rent, the rent is running $1500-$2,000 / month. Add in a car for each of them to get to work, gas, food, internet and telephone service. They can't get by with both of them working.

When my alarm notified me that you had made another video I stopped what I was doing (I was practicing my banjo) to watch. What I enjoy most about your videos is that they cause me to investigate further and search the scriptures more intently. Sometimes you read a verse or two that I have probably read at least a dozen times but you have a different take on it. Do I go back and read it again and think "Huh! He might be on to something here." I want to share my thoughts about a couple of things that you mentioned. First, in Mosiah 1 or 2 (cant remember which) it states that Lehi was knowledgeable in the Egyptian language. For some reason I never made the connection until now that Lehi was a descendant of Joseph. We all know Joseph's story about coming up through the ranks in Egypt. He would have spoken the language fluently. Thus, it was probably passed down through his posterity so that Lehi and probably Laban knew the language. Second, regarding your mention of Jesus marriage to Mary. He had to fulfill every law of the gospel including the covenant of marriage. But your insight into the Mary clinging to him I had never considered. I've gone on much too long. Sorry! But you got me excited.

The first time I heard about Jesus being married (years ago), the feeling that came over me at the thought was spirit filled! Yes!
Recently, having become a bit more familiar with Jewish law, especially pertaining to the time of Christ, the moment at the tomb between Jesus and Mary screams to me that they were indeed married. Jewish law at that time forbade a woman from having any physical contact ( touching, holding, etc...) with a male who was NOT her husband or a direct relative such as a father or brother or uncle in some cases.
They were TOTALLY married! The proof of it is in those verses in the Bible!
Thank you Brother Palmer for not being afraid to tell the truth!

(To me) Everything about mortal Life is a Test of Faith; i.e. tithing is more about faith than money.
Sometimes, it just doesn't work on paper, but it works... the "impossible math"!
For those who feel heartache because of not being married or not having children in THIS mortal existence, I believe that the Millennium is a time of Restitution; that if we have trust and faith in the Lord, all the righteous desires of our hearts will be fulfilled. Some people live in crippled bodies or crippled minds in mortality, or suffer tragic loss/losses. Some people have trials and heartaches that are unseen by others. I hope and pray that all of us will have the faith that we, You and I, are Known personally, individually by a loving Heavenly Father and by our Savior who knows our grief. And soon Jesus will come back in His Glory and usher in that Great time of Millennial Restitution.
Thank you Brother Scott for always being concerned and compassionate about special circumstances and tender feelings, while still teaching truth about Heavenly Father's 'Plan of Happiness'.

I laughed a little while you were talking. My dad's mission president told my dad to go home and get married within 6 months. My dad disobeyed. He says, "How was I supposed to do that? My wife was only 16 when I came home." They met while my mom was in college, and they married five years after his return. I was born the next year on my dad's 28th birthday and my mom's graduation day from college. My husband and I nearly met that deadline. We were married 7 months to the day after I returned from my mission (2.5 years after his return).
The housing situation is crazy. We were fortunate to finally buy a home after 14 years of marriage. We paid $115k for it. 3 bed 1.5 bath, 1500 sq ft, built in the 1950's. Now it's worth around 350-400k. All of our kids returned home to live with us at least once. Our oldest and his family rent a home and have his mother-in-law and brother-in-law living with them. Our second rents an apartment with is wife, both work and he is in school. Our third rents a home with friends. He has a girlfriend and goes to school. The girlfriend is also in school in PA, so they are doing long distance. Our daughter ended up with a divorce. So we have her and our grandson living with us for who knows how long. Two years and counting. At least when we go on a mission we'll have a house sitter. ha ha. When things get rough, I remind myself that we used to have 6 people living here instead of 4, and at least we aren't living with in-laws. We're still mending a few fences with a daughter-in-law. I look back on it all and see how the Lord had his hand in our lives, and still does.

This was for me a great video. I have never enjoyed reading Mosiah as much as I have this time. I belive for absolute that all of our scriptures are very important to read and understand. And yep , all our Prophets including the ones of this last dispensation, starting with The Prophet Joseph Smith living and dead are revelant at least to me . Yes I belive Jesus was married to Mary Magdalena.

My wife and I have been married for almost 23 years. We have lived in several apartments throughout our married life, and have lived with my parents a few times, and now we live in an RV travel trailer at an RV Park. I have three brothers who live with my parents. Times are difficult right now because of all the government spending and inflation. I think that things are just going to get worse. I am still looking for employment and have been trying to find employment since being let go last year in July. I am hoping that I will be able to get a job soon. I applied for a position this last week to work at the local DMV and feel like that would be a good job for me.

I also strongly, strongly believe Mary Magdalene was his wife.... I think I thought this even b4 I joined the Church.
Too many big signs are left behind.... Her being the first He showed himself to, probably the most blatant.
The first (published) miracle. It would have been totally inappropriate for His mother to "butt" into the wedding host's plans to mess w the wine...
Then things like.... He'd likely NOT been invited/allowed to teach in the Temple or the Synagogue unless He was appropriately married.
Absolutely.... to show such a royal bride in the Bride's room is SO right.
NB... The Roman church allowed married clergy, until inheritance challenges arose.

I never post a comment because all the commenters are so awesome… but I had to chime in on the cost-of-living thing because It will make u all feel better. Out here in calif, renting a small old 3 bdrm home is $5000.00 a month, buying that smaller and older average house is a minimum $1,600,000…then monthly payment is then over $9500 a month… needless to say, young people are very discouraged and are having to move far away from parents. 😢

20 years ago my daughter and her husband bought a 3 bed room 1 bath tri-level for $80,000. Homes in that subdivision just like that are now $400,000. My married grand children don't make enough to buy a $500K home. If the husband finishes college they will then have an added debt to pay for that too. It's become INSANE, especially in Utah. I weep for my grandchildren who are coming of marriage age. They will never have their own homes and really can't afford to pay $1,500 to $2,000 a month for a small apartment. My grand daughter said she hates apaartments because when they have children there will be no place for them to go play outside. Not that kids play outside any more anyway. Where ever we moved to my husband and I always had a few acres with animals. Our grandchildren want just one acres to have some of that and it will never happen. But I am glad they didn't wait to marry!

I have 9 kids. My last is a son who is 25 and not married. The others were married at 21-22. He really wants to. He is a talented kid and is activily dating. The girls will go on one to 2 dates and that's it. The girls careers now days are too important or looking for a better guy to swipe up on. I have both girls and boys so I'm not prejudiced. But the emphasis in church talks is getting after the men to get married not the woman. As far as living at home, my other kids, now in their 20s and 30s have had no problem getting a house. Saving up is the key for the few years they rent and didn't think they needed everything right then like new furniture, trips, etc. None of them lived with us. They have gardens, chickens etc. They bought small homes to start with; fix them up, sell and then get a bigger home and yard.

I had a friend that just bought a home in the South West part of Salt Lake Valley. The house was around $530k, which is a good deal for this side of the Valley. Anyway at today's 7% interest his payment was around $3800.00 which in my opinion is a lot. House prices have gone through the roof. I built mine in 1995 on a 1 acre lot for a little over $300k for a 6000 sq foot home. Sad part is now it's worth over a million dollars. I'm glad it's paid for but I don't know how kid's of today can afford a house.

Here lately, as I’ve followed other UA-camrs that have brought up similar questions like why don’t we hear about food storage, or the importance of marriage, or the members are floundering now with less programs, I’ve wondered if that isn’t the meaning of “the half hour of silence”. I have felt it also. We have no idea what the First Presidency knows but it almost feels like part of the sifting process. Instead of the constant reminders and hand holding, we are forced to do our own spiritual work and it feels a little like remembering the answers for a test when we are used to open book. We did just get reprimanded for not being valiant in our covenants, but that has been the first in a long time. Idk.

“As recorded in the Old Testament, when Naaman sought a cure for his leprosy, he was indignant at being asked to dip himself seven times in a nearby ordinary river. But he was persuaded to follow the prophet Elisha’s counsel rather than rely on his own preconceived notions of how the miracle should occur. As a result, Naaman was healed. When we trust God’s prophet on the earth today and act on his counsel, we will find happiness, and we too can be healed. We need to look no further.” Elder renlund Oct 2023

I think this discussion on the feasibility of home ownership is a lost American dream for the vast majority of young people. In many countries, homes are multi family. Meaning parents, grandparents and children live under the same roof and help meet living expenses. We are approaching needing to consider this type of housing fixes here in the U.S.
I see problems of the church being out of touch with the common member. The leadership and church are very wealthy and naturally do not understand the financial disparity. Christ warned of becoming so wealthy that you can't serve both God and Mammon. I feel we are living out this prophecy today.
Thanks for your common sense discussions.

When my husband and I got married, I was 18 years old. We didn't know how we would do it, we just went ahead with faith and prayers.
I didn't have a job yet, Sean was in university. We took everything to the Lord in prayer and God made a way. I got a job, it was .45 cents more than our baseline to survive, and we were grateful for it. No sarcasm. It was some of the most exciting days of our lives.
We got a 1 bedroom apartment and rented for 10 years. Bought my mother's condo. It's not my dream home, but it's reality...
I think most people now are just not grateful for what they have. They want more. You'll never be ready to start a family with that attitude of wanting everything to be perfect first. Some people think, 'oh ill prepare, so I can provide better' but something can always happen. That's part of the journey.

commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to prove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, receive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been faithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and cleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.
Well, according the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord has handmaids, Emma for example.. He said He was giving her to Joseph. I found that part interesting, it also repeats later.
I found it confusing, myself. Like one of those, your damned if you do, and if you don't, kinda scenario. I was confused about it, but thought, perhaps the Lord meant it that way on purpose.. to bring something about... 🤷‍♀️

  • @ComeFollowScripture

Why not tell young married people to grow up and leave Utah and stop sponging off of their parents - they should grow up! I don't think your council of young people living with their parents is very good council - this allows children to remain children. The scriptures tell them to LEAVE their father and mother and cleave to their wife; living in Mommy's basement doesn't help with that. There are those that would never think of leaving Utah, but there are many places that have very nice homes that are less than half the price of Utah. Real Estate in Utah is over-priced and if young married people are smart, they will leave Utah and gain benefits for their living standard, AND their testimony.

    • @sherigraham3873
      @sherigraham3873 5 місяців тому +7

Utah real estate is over priced! But I also agree with preacher Palmer. It's better that young people get married and have the faith to start a family. Even if they do live in a basement for awhile. And definitely moving to a more reasonable place is a good option. It makes me sad that blue collar workers are having a rough time affording a home. But then again, leave Utah. It's a challenging time for young people.
