Thank you for watching! ❤️ 🤟
(🎵 Outro Music Credit: "Don't Ya Bite Now" Dan Lebowitz - UA-cam Audio Library)
Thanks for hanging out this year. It's been a blast listening to this band with you. ❤
Discovering The Smiths. I've seen this happen in other peoples lives and now it's happening in yours. 👍
Love it!
This is one of Johnny Marr’s masterpieces to me. The chords are beautiful, and that sharp, wailing guitar part adds the perfect sharpness to go with the lyrics. Sadly gorgeous
He was 19-23 writing their entitle catalog. It still blows my mind
Remarkable
The double fade out is countered by the also incredibly rare double fade in on "Some Girls are Bigger than Others". ;-)
A double fade IN? Looking forward to that!
I read somewhere that the fade out fade back in effect was done on purpose as johnny wanted to create a door closing slowly and then opens slowly with music being played in room effect if that makes sense
@@paullaw7412it absolutely was done on purpose.
I recall many of us returning the record, originally here in the UK, thinking that our beloved copy of The Queen Is Dead contained a pressing plant error or mastering fault. Only to discover the replacement copy had the exact same fade in, fade out, fade back in at the beginning of Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.
A bit of an oddity, to say the least.
@@MusicCatsandCoffeeIt’s an incredible song - One of their best, musically.
Here’s the rub - When Morrissey came into the studio to sing the lyrics (the rest of the band hadn’t heard them yet), Johnny Marr was horrified at what he perceived to be such a lazy effort from Morrissey. Marr was so proud of the music (rightfully so) and expected equally brilliant lyrics to accompany his music.
And yeah, a double fade in!!
All in all, a wonderful track. Please listen 🙏
I'm waiting for this one, the most beautiful up-tempo song I've ever heard. I'd always end my Smiths mixtapes with this one, a perfect closer.
Definitely a grower. The atmospheric guitar solo soon gets into the head. And glad I’m not the only one to become obsessed by Well I Wonder - a song that draws you in after a few listens. Reel around the Fountain is similar.
Hope you check out half a person. It’s always a treat you reacting to the smiths. ❤
Johnny Marr would compose guitar music, record it and give Morrissey the cassette. Morrissey would disappear into his room for weeks and put lyrics to Marr's composition. This is straight from a great Morrissey interivew that's on UA-cam in 3 parts. So, Marr may have been thinking about puppies and rainbows during his composition and Morrissey may have been thinking about something totally depressing during his composition.
You hit the nail on the head with how both this and "Well i wonder" grow on you over time. Liked them on first listen , i ADORE them now.
Just subbed! I'm 60 and The Smiths is my favorite band ever. Listened to them first after reading a positive review about their debut album in Rolling Stone Magazine. I bought the cassette at the time and was blown away by the vocals, guitar and especially the bass! They are all perfect musicians for each other. Love your reactions to the best band to ever exist. My favorite song is Reel Around The Fountain. I hope you react to it one day. It's the most special song I've ever heard. By anyone. Ever. Cheers!
Try The Boy with the Thorn in his Side, if you want hear Morrissey ultra-feeling it!
Yes yodels
This was always a lay back in bed and close your eyes as the music washes over you kind of song.
That Joke isn’t funny anymore was definitely one that slowly grew on me to become one of my favourite Smiths track.
It was actually released as a single. It only just made the top 50 in the regular charts but was number 1 in the indie charts, something most of their singles achieved.
I suggest something off their first album such as Reel Around the Fountain or I Don’t Owe You Anything next.
Have really enjoyed watching you discover all these Smiths songs over the last year, something I was doing 40 years ago when they originally came out. Looking forward to more in the coming year.
Hi Lauren, have you reacted to The Smiths Panic yet If not I highly recommend it. One of the more upbeat Smiths songs.
The 2nd half is
Johnny Marr's
Ghostly Guitar 🎸🎼🎵🎶
Love your smiths reactions. And theres loads more songs to go to plus morriseys solo stuff (suedehead and every day is like sunday my personal faves). The hatful of hollow album features their early stuff and is choc full of superb andy basslines and morriseys biting satirical lyrics. Still ill youve got everything now and these things take time are bangers.
Happy new year from liverpool england (a half hour drive from salford lads club a place synonimous with the smiths and manchester music btw).
Thank you for your reactions this year! Always a blast! A few suggestions for 2025: Still Ill, I won't share you, Rubber Ring, ...
Been loving your reactions to the Smiths. Long may they continue. This song is probably one of my favourites of theirs. Two other great tracks to check out are Rubber Ring and Asleep…Both are featured on the B side of the single of The Boy with the Thorn in his Side. They also appear on the compilation The World Won’t Listen.
It's been a blast watching you discover The Smiths. And to be fair there's no bad next song to listen to! Looking forwards to next year and many more Smiths reactions! Happy new year mate. :)
PS. Unhappy Birthday or Paint a Vulgar Picture next. Not that it matters lol.
I love how many reactions you have had to The Smiths!!! If you have not heard "Suffer Little Children" or "Back to the Old House" yet, I would highly recommend them.
Great Smiths video as always. It would be great if you react to the title song from Meat is Murder. Interesnting song
Love your Smiths reactions. React to some Echo and the Bunnymen please. I think you'd like it.
Wooooo another The Smiths reaction!!!!
The boy with the thorn in his side, the smiths best single I feel
I actually like your theory that they faded out and then back in as a dig at Morrissey's caterwauling outros
You will be amazed by Morrissey solo stuff
Great song! Happy new year.
To me, THIS is the greatest Smiths’ song in their catalog. An absolutely spine-tingling song of depth and beauty… Marr and Morrissey are at the best here. A haunting masterpiece. By the way: Since you love The Smiths, you should definilely check out out THE CHAMELEONS… Another incredible Manchester band with Post-Punk / Shoegaze feel that was a brilliant comet with their first three albums. (Try “Swamp Thing,” “Second Skin,” “Here Today” (about the death of John Lennon told from his perspective), “Tears,” or “Don’t Fall.” Cheers!
Bonus points for The Chameleons. Fantastic band.
@@Mr.Wrong1 They really are. Way too under the radar for people who SHOULD know better.
The smiths ❤❤❤❤
Check out Sweet And Tender Hooligans or London for a more punky sound from the Smiths
Some Girls are Bigger than Others fades in, then out, and then back in...
They actually did an instrumental (no Mosser?! shock horror) called 'Oscillate Wildly' which, you'll be glad to hear, still manages to be curiously depressing and just oozes regret. It's like some eerie film soundtrack from 60s British 'Realist' cinema and I'm pretty sure that was their intention.
One of the lyric fragments came from an English play or movie or TV show... two women were talking and one said, "I've seen this happen in other people's lives and now it's happening in ours."
Half a person
Some girls are bigger than others
Rubber ring
Pretty girls make graves
All worthy of your ears😃
I can second that!
Amazing song
Enjoyed your reaction again. By the third listen it’ll sink in like the others. Up next Girl Afraid , paint a Vulgar Picture - these are really in your zone. Last, Philly Accent Lauren ? ( Home pronounced as such lol). Keep em coming in 2025. Please. And Thank You.
It’s peak Morrissey-Marr songwriting. Almost transcendental. And it’s the repetition that makes it. Mark E. Smith of the Fall was dead right about the importance of repetition. When you get it, you’ll really get it. Such a powerful, emotionally-stirring song.
I feel like the whole - a song unexpectedly becoming your favorite and having it on repeat nonstop - is pretty common with The Smiths. Some just hit harder at later times. My favorites usually rotate weekly 😂 3 songs on repeat and then go again with another 3.
Morrissey Feeling It™
🙂
I love your reactions, Lauren, but I'm worried that you're not hearing them at their best. I think you'd benefit from listening to The Smiths on CD or vinyl, so that you could hear them in an uncompressed format - they deserve it😊
The live Madrid version is great . Hope u do more live reactions too
Also my favourite to play on guitar
A song that grew on me which has happened to me with alot of smiths songs
Listen a lot but rarely participate with join ins or replies etc... but I love your sincerity in your journey of thee SMITHS. Anyway.. you dig The Bass.. Andy RIP.
Check out early MORRISSEY solo that has Andy on the bass. I recommend November Spawned a Monster.
The ending effect is genius.
Congratulations on the channel! I follow your videos here in Brazil! How about reacting to "Please Please Plase", a great song by The Smiths?
Thanks!
Thanks so much! ❤️

Lovin your theory 😂
Here are 3 "Under the radar" Smiths songs: 1. I don't Owe you anything 2. London 3. When will you accept yourself?
Best smiths song hands down !
Love your Smiths reactions. Can you react to the performance of Still Ill from Hamburg 1984.
Morrissey speedway
This song was released as a single, but I don't think it charted too highly...
you will definitely become obsessed 100%
Given your love affair with Andy's bass playing, you really need to hear 'Rusholme Ruffians' a great Smiths track. But hey, aren't they all.
Williammmmm
You should react to "i don't owe you anything"
Have to do sweet and tender hooligan great song
HEY!
9:01 But Morrissey, being naturally suspicious, followed them back into the studio and joined-in again, whilst the others struggled to hide their frustration that their little ruse had backfired on them... Is that your theory? :0)
This song is so gloomy I luv it.
Keep up the great work!
I LOVE this live version of "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore". I love Johnny's guitar at the 3:27 mark.
