The song is based off a play called A Taste of Honey written about the 1950s were a 17 year old girl has a mixed race child with a black sailor who soon has to go back to sea, the picture on the cover album is playwright Shelagh Delaney who wrote A Taste of Honey
"Please, please, please let me get what I want" is very popular and the lyrics are so depressing, as always. It's also under 2 minutes 🤷♂️ I would highly recommend.
I’ve always heard it as every angel . “The dream is gone but the baby is real.” I read as she gave up on her dreams ti raise the child… “she could have been a poet or she could have been a fool” I read as a double meaning “had she could have been success or a failure in her dreams and or the baby that was aborted could have been a poet or a fool” in other words it’s a situation that will forever be filled with “if’ and could have been”
Probably top two smiths songs for me personally, definitely not as popular as their other songs but for me from the first time I heard it I was hooked.
One of the most awesome bass lines. The way the bass and guitar entwine is just amazing and beautiful and almost unique! Yeah great song. Very hard hitting. Keep 'em coming, I'm loving all these reactions! :)
The Smiths forma parte de la banda sonora de mi juventud, con solo 14 años escuchaba por las calles de mi liceo, calles muy similares a las de Manchester, calles húmedas y grises, largas calles y fábricas...
Morrissey and Robert Smith were the ego and the id of the 80s version of the deep, profound, cynical, distanced, brutally honest, English tortured intellectual - struggling to find the words for this crazy world... 'type'. They both played their parts brilliantly and inspired me to find my own inner Morrissey or Smith (depending on which girl I happened to be talking to).
I'm in Houston , Morrissey will be here 10/31 at the 731 music hall , and JOHNNY MARR will be in Houston 10/1 at the BAYOU MUSIC CENTER , GO CHECK OUT THERE TOUR DATE !!!!!😃😃😃
From your first couple of Smith's reactions I knew you were going to be a massive fan. You absolutely get them, and they speak to you just as they spoke to millions of fans before. They're sound is so unique yet so familiar, it's just undeniably The Smiths as soon as you hear them. A lot of the credit for that goes to Johnny's songwriting ability. To be able to write a catalogue of songs that have that defining individuality yet comforting familiarity, and all at a ridiculously high standard from album to album, is incredibly hard to achieve. There's a reason that Morrissey and Marr are considered the Lennon and McCartney of their generation. My suggestions for more classic Andy+Mozza=❤ Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others. Rusholme Ruffians Well I Wonder William It Was Really Nothing Girlfriend In A Coma Unloveable The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Handsome Devil
I'm greatly enjoying watching you discover The Smiths. For me, this moment was about 37 years ago when I heard this song for the first time! The Smiths are amazing and will always be my favorite band! This is the type of Smiths song that you listen to alone in your room in the dark. See also Well I Wonder, Last Night I Dreamt, Rubber Ring, I Know it's Over, Back to the Old House, Asleep, etc.
Glad to see your reaction, it's a fantastic song indeed. By the way, Johnny never wrote any lyrics for the Smiths so no, it's all Morrissey's work. Do "Well I wonder" next, please, one of the most beauitufl songs you'll ever hear!
Think you’d really like the tracks ‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle’ and ‘Suffer Little Children’. Both from their debut album titled ‘The Smiths’. The latter song is based on true events. What came to be referred to as the Moor’s Murders…. a series of child killings committed by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in and around Manchester, England, between July 1963 and October 1965. Worth reading a bit about it before you listen to it so you get the lyrics. A must listen for any Smiths Fan. I believe this song is one of the earliest songs Morrissey and Marr wrote together.
So happy you came around to this song, a timeless masterpiece bluesy a homage to there soulful influences. Thanks for making this video. Made my day. 😊
What a delightful surprise this choice was! There really isn't a poor choice of course, but the majority of the ones you have been doing would be considered obvious choices. This one certainly is not, but it truly is a gem of a song. Amazing choice and reaction! You just made my day! Oh and I think it would be amazing if you did a two song combo of Ask and Panic, as both are incredible songs, but very short in length.
Top 5 Smiths song, in the same bracket as Rubber Ring, Jeane and two others, that could be any 2 from another 10. Love your Smiths reactions. Always here for them!
Having grown up listening to The Smiths, I have to say that it really gives me joy to watch you discover their music. They were so extremely influential to me and one of the primary bands that got me through my very difficult teen (even early adult) years. On that note, I really think your next listen should be "Rubber Ring". I won't tell you anything about it, but when you do get around to listening to it, google the meaning of the title. Also, it is (in my opinion) one of Andy's finest basslines.
Unhappy Birthday** would be a good one, you'd like the lyrics. Same with Paint an Ugly Picture. For a laugh listen to Frankly Mr Shankly or Vicar in a Tutu! lol. **Actually I'd love to see you react to this especially! lol
Love your Smiths geek out. So Lauren, take a bow but please, please please let me get what I want this time. (Another Smiths review) ...Its' been three weeks, 7 hours, 23 minutes...Ohhh I can't stand it anymore... :)
Since I at the age of 17, spent three months in my room listening to "Hatful of Hollow", I hope that you will grant me a reaction to "Still Ill". You're very good, you know, you make it all happen again.
I believe I recommended this in the comments for one of your first Smiths videos, so I'm glad you liked it. A more up tempo song from around the same time in their discography is Still ill. Or for another slow, atmospheric number I suggest Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want. By the way, I think it's always the case that Morrissey writes the lyrics and Marr the music.
It's fine , but it's one of those early plodding Smiths songs that largely passes me by . Their later stuff is so much better : for instance , What She Said (let's rock) , That Joke Isnt Funny Anymore (let's cry , and BASS ) , Asleep (cry again) , Frankly Mr Shankly (lets laugh) , Cemetry Gates (a bit of all of the above) , A Rush and a Push ( unique) .
As an old dude who had the privilege of seeing The Smiths live a few times, I'd recommend to anybody less fortunate to watch The Smiths @ Derby in 1983. Probably the closest you can get to the atmosphere of being there at the time. ua-cam.com/video/NWaCNjGW0hU/v-deo.html
This Night Has Opened My Eyes is in my opinion one of the top 3 Smiths songs. You need to listen to "I don't Owe You Anything" and "Stop me if you think you've heard this one Before", and a bonus track for you is " Suffer Little Children"- this last song will tear your heart out!!
More Smiths titles: Half a Person, That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, London, You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby, Girl Afraid, Cemetery Gates, Shoplifters of the World, William It Was Really Nothing, Reel Around the Fountain...
Panic and bigmouth, in fact all those singles when they were at their biggest are their worst imho, hatful of hollow meat is murder etc. all the albums are fantastic
"Well I Wonder"........"William it was really nothing"
The song is based off a play called A Taste of Honey written about the 1950s were a 17 year old girl has a mixed race child with a black sailor who soon has to go back to sea, the picture on the cover album is playwright Shelagh Delaney who wrote A Taste of Honey
And the film is absolutely hilarious!
@@oscillatewildly6553 And I think it stared Rita Tushingham..
'William, It Was Really Nothing', 'Cemetry Gates', 'Well I Wonder', 'I Won't Share You', 'Girl Afraid'.
Well i wonder is a great track
My favorite
Mine too!
One of their best.
Every one of them raised the bar on this song. Its simply outstanding. I never tire of hearing this.
"Please, please, please let me get what I want" is very popular and the lyrics are so depressing, as always. It's also under 2 minutes 🤷♂️
I would highly recommend.
Well I Wonder. My favourite Smiths' song and my favourite Andy bassline. You even hear the fret slide. Exquisite!
Saw them just before they split up in 1986. One of the best bands I've seen live
The Smiths: "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Love Me"
I dreamt last night that somebody left me.... :)
"Ask" "Still ill" and "Girl Afraid" are great ones
Ask is possibly the worst smiths single ; but the other two you mention are top
@@AustralianQldDad No, Ask is one of the best--very catchy hook and chorus and clever lyrics as well.
Hey, you. Have a great day.😎
This song has saved my life many times
You too Lauren!
I’ve always heard it as every angel .
“The dream is gone but the baby is real.” I read as she gave up on her dreams ti raise the child… “she could have been a poet or she could have been a fool” I read as a double meaning “had she could have been success or a failure in her dreams and or the baby that was aborted could have been a poet or a fool” in other words it’s a situation that will forever be filled with “if’ and could have been”
Smiths "That Joke isn't Funny Anymore" Morrissey (solo) "Everyday is like Sunday"
I recommend "Accept yourself", "Girl afraid" and "Back to the old house" for future Smiths reactions.
“Back to the old house “ from the Hatful of Hollow album (please!)
Back to the old house, magical sound; accept yourself is the greatest for meaning in comparison; it's a jam.
🎵🎶If it's not love , then it's the bomb that will bring us together 🎵🎶
Poor Mike Joyce, never mentioned. The Ringo of The Smiths. :)
Well I Wonder. Girl Afraid. I Don’t owe you anything. Last night dreamt ……………
Back To The Old House (Official Audio) .... Wonderful Woman (2008 Remaster) ...Jeane (2008 remaster)
'Seasick, yet still docked'.
This song is probably the one that I listen to again the most.
Half a person, well I wonder, back to the old house etc. They truly wrote some great songs
It's a joy to watch you inevitably falling in love with them, the way we all did. A love that will keep you warm forever.
"She could have been a poet or she could have been a fool" - that lyric wrecks me every time
Probably top two smiths songs for me personally, definitely not as popular as their other songs but for me from the first time I heard it I was hooked.
Still Ill, Ask, Well I wonder,...the list goes on!
Break up the family and Late Night Maudlin street are great songs lyrically from Morrisseys Viva Hate album
One of the most awesome bass lines. The way the bass and guitar entwine is just amazing and beautiful and almost unique! Yeah great song. Very hard hitting.
Keep 'em coming, I'm loving all these reactions! :)
I knew you'd love the bass on this one. Absolutely, those lyrics are very raw, and reflect the reality of life, for many in such a situation.
Most groups would give their right bollock to write something this good. The Smiths…….. filler on a compilation album.

`Jeane`, B-side of `This charming man`. A hidden gem! Love the vids, cool reaction to a great song.
'Well I Wonder'
Girl afraid amazing bass line
I'm in Houston , Morrissey will be here 10/31 at the 731 music hall , and JOHNNY MARR will be in Houston 10/1 at the BAYOU MUSIC CENTER , GO CHECK OUT THERE TOUR DATE !!!!!😃😃😃
Jeane - is raw and rocking
Just wait til you discover their amazing vast B-side collection lol
"You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" and "Reel Around The Fountain"

You covered this track so well :) it's one of those that's very raw, but reels you in for more.
Well I wonder and Rubber ring.
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle...Back To The Old House...You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby...Half A Person...Unloveable
Well I wonder is so good
You really can’t go wrong with any Smiths song….I do vote for “that joke isn’t funny anymore” next as it’s my favorite and absolutely brilliant
I'm glad you liked this one because it's one of my favourites. I love the atmosphere it creates. I do tend to prefer the more obscure songs.
Well I wonder!!!

If it's hits hard with lyrics you are after from the smiths then suffer little children is the one that made me go woah
"This night has opened my eyes" is one of their heaviest and best songs, btw. I get teary eyed every listen nowadays.
Sweet And Tender Hooligan
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.
2 Smiths suggestions from me👌

sometimes I find it hard to believe that people don't know these songs, then I remember that I'm old

Thanks!

Look up 1950s Kitchen Sink Dramas. More specifically, "A Taste of Honey" by Shelagh Delaney, to gain more insight into this song.
Since I at the age of 17, spent three months in my room listening to "Hatful of Hollow", I hope that you will grant me a reaction to "Still Ill". You're very good, you know, you make it all happen again.
After this one, you should reaction to 'Barbarism Begins at Home' off the Meat is Murder album...
I believe I recommended this in the comments for one of your first Smiths videos, so I'm glad you liked it.

“You’ve Got Everything Now”. Live, Derby Assembly Rooms. Lauren, this would make a great reaction video!
Played this album every day for four years in college 35 years ago
..How man bottles of cider did you go through?.. lol.
You should react to Mick Thomson answering the webs most searched question
Knowing your love for Andy, it has to be Rusholme Ruffians, Barbarism Begins at Home or Rubber Ring.
Honestly, any smiths song is great! I love What She Said!
I'm with the people suggesting Well I Wonder. Though there are no weak tracks in The Smiths catalogue so you'll be fine with whatever you choose.
If you watch the film A Taste of Honey you will understand this great song to the fullest, outstanding
Lovin your Smiths Geek-out...
It's fine , but it's one of those early plodding Smiths songs that largely passes me by . You have to do “Well I Wonder” and “I don’t owe you anything”
Jeane - Morrisey's most personal love song - and suppressed?
More! More!
Can you believe this was a B-side?
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore - Shoplifters Of The World Unite - Asleep
As an old dude who had the privilege of seeing The Smiths live a few times, I'd recommend to anybody less fortunate to watch The Smiths @ Derby in 1983.

Some Girls is the most beautiful uptempo, silly song I've ever heard. Amazing track.

@MusicCatsandCoffee dyin send help! Yes it's the last smiths 🎵 song
Please god do (Well i wonder )
What she said live and Rubber Ring
Please react to half a person or back to the old house from louder then bombs.
The Smiths are one of the most underrated bands ever. I think it's because they were too clever for most people.
And I am not happy and I'm not sad.
When are you going to solve the dastardly kidnapping of "Jeane", so unheralded, but one of their best songs, and live only second to ,.....a Light?
Can recommend The Ukrainian's cover of 'Big Mouth Strikes Again'. The east European sound works really well
I hope you check out his song The Last of the Famous International Playboy, its about 2 real uk gangsters The Kray Twins
Please react to all of The Smiths songs……if you have time.
Paint a vulgar picture is a great smiths song
