There was no evil coach actually.Infact the coach and mahavir phogat were best friends.They both trained Geeta phogat.And the final with Angelina was over in 2 rounds only.but for the sake of suspenseful climax,they extended it to 3 Rd round.

Let me tell you a true story. We went to watch this movie in the theatres and usually we stand for a national anthem before the movie begins but for this movie there was no national anthem at the beginning. We wondered why so until the last scene happen where Aamir Khan is underground and the National Anthem of India is played. Believ it or not entire people around us, stood up and had eyes teared with emotion of winning and we all screamed “bharat mata ki jay at the end” Trust me, it was a wholesome experience to watch this movie. Also, steph’s resction were exactly the same as ours in the theatre. Kudos to the channel and team 😊

My family lived in Oman when this movie was released and I was on vacation to their place when I went to watch this movie with my grandma. The entire theatre gave a standing ovation and clapped at the end of the movie. And the audience was predominently Omani. It had Omani fathers watching the movie with their wives and little daughters. The women looked so proud of Geeta and Babita.
Cinema has such immense power to unite cultures, transcend boundaries and bring people together.
What you hindus are doing in oman.

Some fun fact
1. In the final match, Geeta dominated from the beginning, and there was no third round since she won the first 2 round.
2. The coach locking his father never happened, actually the coach had really good relation with Geeta and also he objected his portrayal in movie.
There was no villainous coach, its a fictional character
3. Mahavir Singh phogat, Geetas father, never wanted a boy , actually his wife wanted a boy.
4. Geeta in this movie has been shown that, after receiving training from "villainous coach" she starts losing , which also didn't happened, she had a good record
I hate it when films exaggerate things.
They went too far creative liberty. They could have had still crafted a compelling story by keeping it authentic!

This movie had a shot at Oscars if nominated... It was a real story... And movies like this perform fairly well at Oscars... Can't remember if this movie was even considered lol

@@srinivask1003 Yes, that's also a very good movie. My personal preference would be Dangal though. The committee may have thought that a movie that explores deeper into the hinterland and has a minority centric social message may be better received at the Oscars and hence may have decided to send it.
Aamir Khan has so much potential, gosh I really hope Bollywood makes good films. Really hope that era comes back, if not, please please use the potential of these actors and actresses in some insanely great projects

@@hermitsage12 Oh yes, definitely! For me as a part of a pan Indian audience, Dangal was more entertaining, more easily to extract morals from or criticize and even more relatable in the sense of the world it depicted.
Newton was pretty good in its own right too.
But in reality, Geetha won the final in two rounds with pure domination. and her father was also not locked up. They showed some fiction for a cinematic experience. And coach also not bad like him, All the details are mentioned in his biography.

What the movie said about winning a gold medal makes you an example is so true for our country because even more than male athletes, when women athletes win at international level, media and people shower them with love and they do immense work on removing the social stigma against women sports...and it is true that after Phogat sisters win, there was a huge surge of girls signing up for wrestling in India, same thing happened with Tennis with Sania Mirza's in late 2000s and then with boxing due to Mary Kom and with gymanstics with Dipa Karmakar...infact because of those trailbliazers today we are seeing record number of female atheletes performing way better than their male counterpart..

My friend who is now in pro wrestling told Me that this film is fully accurate. Mainly thanks to Amir Khan being a Perfectionist. The only unrealistic part of the movie he said was not beating the life out of that coach. 😂
i was so sure that the scene where Aamir Khan hears the national anthem would be the one included in the reaction..the best scene of the movie. Editors missed out big time on it.
This film also shows the Indian parenting style; mostly the father plays a bad cop and the mother plays a good cop - all with the best interest of their children at heart.
They do not need to say "I love you"every day and might appear rude to the western world, but barring few, Indian parents will sacrifice everything for their children.
It is so good watching movies with you guys. Each time a part ended, I waited and waited. Couldn't get enough

Don't go by the film's storyline they took some cinematic lenience which is fair also. But in actuality, the national coach wasn't arrogant, in fact he fully supported Geetha as a coach and trained her to betterment, and Geetha won her first 🥇 in World Championship at her first attempt.
Steph's reaction to the wrestling scenes mirrored mine when i watched the movie in theatres back in the day in 2016, it was so tense in theatres as if i am watching a real match and i completely forgot that it was a movie afterall !!
I remember watching this on first day first show theatre full packed and this movie theatre turned into a stadium people cheering and standing during end for national anthem and then everyone cheered in theatre what a moment it was although m SRK fan but these gems deserve all love and mad mad respect for Aamir and Nitesh Tiwari

I wrestled back in high school all 4 years but never able to pursue further training and opportunities because I felt behind in my studies. I love this movie because I know the feeling of every win and loss and the burn inside to do what is necessary etc. This is wanna make me go back to wrestling.

still remember after the massive success of this film there's literally a revolution to make sport-drama oriented film in Bollywood.. but not even one movie came close to this one.. and sadly such movies will not be made anymore as ppl will mostly flock in the theaters if it is a big budget mass action entertainer now a days.. this movie will remain on top in it's genre always
For me, Chak De India and Lagaan would be the two undisputed greatest sports movies of all time. Dangal is definitely close, but it will never match the greatness of Chak De and Lagaan

This is a completely true story, but they just added a fake villain coach just to create conflict for the movie. The real life coach was a really good trainer and a good person who cooperated with Mahavir Singh in training Geetha

This is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Another female centric movie you should definitely check out is Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra as the legendary Indian boxer MC Mary Kom who's won 6 gold medals in World Boxing Championship and it's a record unbeaten till now. Many people had insulted PC for doing the role of Mary Kom but she absolutely nailed it. The movie was both a critical and commercial success and Priyanka really learnt boxing and had to remain extremely fit for the role. Even Mary Kom herself highly appreciated Priyanka Chopra for her incredible acting
You should watch their wrestling training video. Everyone equally trained to have the perfection in every shot.
