  • In this video I test the new SMKW Exclusive Esee JG5.
    I really like this knife and would suggest it to anyone.
    Here is where to get one for yourself:
    www.smkw.com/esee-jg5-with-sc...
    Also I apologize about Arlo my Goldendoodle for whining in the video, he's an attention whore and wants my attention all the time.

      I saw that I was the only one doing a real video on this knife, it's why I was eager to get this knife for both a great blade but also I wanted to set the precedent for testing this blade.

    Great review; I think an 8 inch blade and 0.25 thick larger version and this JG5 with folding saw! Wow, what a trio combo.....thanks for your review.

    In addition to his fixed blade Nesmuck carried a small double bit hatchet and a pocket knife. He would have never used his fixed blade for processing wood for a fire. The actual knife was thin like a kitchen blade. Its shape is specifically designed for game processing and food preparation.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      That’s probably true but I test knives to the fullest. I also carry an axe and a few blades when I go out myself. What’s nice is this knife can handle anything you throw at it

    This is just a suggestion, when doing reverse chest pull cuts, anchor the blade away from you, and pull the woodback towards you. This greatly improves your control and leverage when hogging out the wood.
    Nice video, I enjoyed watching.
    P.S. : I too like the design and just ordered one myself.

  • @readyme
    @readyme 5 років тому +2

    Thanks for the video. Any chance you have a 3hm? I am trying to decide between the 3hm and the JG5. I like the thin stock they share. One advantage I see of the 3hm is the hand can get closer to the sharpened edge to increase leverage when cutting. Any help would be great.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  5 років тому +2

      I might someday get the 3HM, however I just got the regular Esee3. I would say the JG5 would probably be overall more capable with the longer blade and sharpened spine, however I see what your saying with the 3HM and the ability to get your hand closer but I’m not sure if it’s that much closer that it would make an advantage. I do have plans on testing the 6HM and Junglas II before too long. Thanks for watching btw

    Hi, very nice video! one question, is the thickness of the blade okay or should it be thicker? Greetings from Argentina!

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      The thickness is great it is 1/8. So not super thin but not too thick. If your gonna do a lot of abusive testing you might consider something with a thicker blade but if your gonna do mild abusive work and mostly common knife uses then this should be perfect

      Hey Thanks man, I personally Like the JG5 much better as it performs most common knife tasks much better. I will say the Laser Strike is still a great knife for I have them both and have done reviews of both. It would also make a better tactical knife for military/LE if thats what your using it for but for everything else, it's the JG5.

    I don't think a "poor man" would be buying even an Esee. There's not a big price difference between that knife and an LT Wright.

    • @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors
      @thelasthuntsmanoutdoors  5 років тому

      There is a good portion of LTs that are pushing or well over $200, this can be gotten for a little over a $100 is all I’m saying I suppose

    • @Jimlovescock
      @Jimlovescock 5 років тому +1

      There’s also quite a few closer to the cost of this knife in the $150 range. This knife is $125 in most places. But even the difference between this knife and a $200 LTWK isn’t enough to make a poor man afford the Esee generally.
