  • A few weeks ago when one of the very first Tamiya Landfreeder QuadTrack RC Car’s landed on our workbench, it instantly had Greg’s interest. So much so, he did an unboxing of the kit that you can find here: • Video And since then, it’s been taunting us as it was assembled over a few weeks. Well the QuadTrack was finally finished up and the question remains, is this kit worth the purchase, worth your build time, worth the drive? We had our thoughts on how it would perform, but this tracked RC rig really threw us for a loop. Greg was not expecting what this RC car did in the dirt and on hills. If you’ve been toying with the idea of getting a kit to build, something different, then this is a must watch video for you!

This truck looks like a lot of fun! As someone who grew up in the 80s/90s, I am happy to see Tamiya is still around and flying the flag for old school RC.

They may not make the fastest or most durable kits, but Tamiya does have the fun aspect figured out. I have owned a few and all of them have been fun to build, modify and drive. Really wished I had kept my Hummer and Clodbuster

    • @rcdriver

You nailed it. That’s exactly what they are about, a fun RC modeling experience. So many people are so focused on what’s the best kit and who competes with one another and Tamiya isn’t focused on any of that, they simply make fun unique RC model kits.

The dust cover looks very interesting. I think with little effort it can be turned into a body of a sci-fi or polar car. Add some further parts and you can explore the arctic or conquer some other planets. Okay, that is for the optic.
Applause for Tamiya to pu a 35T motor in the car. I had slaughtered the 21T in my TRX-4 after driving 20 minutes with the Traxx in the snow. Now I have to change it. Not what I was expecting from Traxxas.😉

This is awesome! The price is quite high for a "TT-02" kit. Yeah, it's got the quadtracks, but even with the new ESC and chassis cover (which I really want), it's really steep for an entry level chassis.
Great review as always and really cool tip about leaving bushings in there for some of the components instead of bearings.

Looks a blast to drive, always love Tamiya, first one was the FAV back in the mid 80s. I visited Tamiya HQ in Shizuoka Japan some years ago, they have open day event twice a year together with a big RC Exhibition also in the same city where Tamiya, Kyosho, Yokomo show off new stuff and you can always pick up exclusive stuff made for the event like a very limited run of old Tamiya motors and parts. Tamiya HQ also have a open exhibition showing all their RC Cars from 58001 onwards together with real cars some of their RC Cars were based on.

I wasn't sure what to expect either. At times the smoothness of the treads makes it look like it's gliding across the ground. I wish they would have made a new body for this platform, maybe something sci-fi or like an exploration vehicle. The Fast Attack Vehicle body might look cool on this.

It looks cool but friction shocks?!?! And they used the short on road suspension arms with almost no travel. Almost feels like they have held back it's own potential.

    • @jalee6587
