Cool creation. I have ordered a Buggy Champ 2009. It is the flashback to a childhood itch that I couldn’t scratch. I’m curious about comparing these two for that sake of evolution.
Super glue the saver! It's a trick I learned on UA-cam. You cut the nub off the back of the part that slides on the servo so that the front plate can bottom put and the whole thing is reassembled, super gluing each piece together as it goes back together. It removes all slop, but the super glue will still break before the servo does and and it keeps all the parts nice and the geometry as designed!
hello , a geared diff would be a nice option to get better steering , the ball diff enhances rear grip , a front tyre change would help too but i really like the tyre choice for multi surface running so finding steering through weight distribution and diff action would be a nicer way to go i feel . perhaps a shorty lipo pack slid forward with some foam to pack out the battery compartment , also a heavy all metal low pro servo from power hd or jx servo would bring some worthwhile grams to the front end . an oil change in the damper ,softer front or firmer rear a more open front damper piston or more closed rear would also help . i have found that front toe angle can be a very useful adjustment and is the easiest to effect while out having fun. enjoy your new toy , i am loving all the pics you shared on instagram . keep em coming and hav fun .
I disagree with this. Tell me how long it takes to replace the diff fluid vs. adjust a hex head bolt on an output drive. Maintenance alone isn't worth the swap from a ball diff to a gear diff. Ball diff is going to last forever in that buggy with a 21.5t motor in it. I can adjust a ball diff in less than 1min from the time I pick up the car, pop off a turnbuckle, get my allen wrench in the the hole, do an 1/8th a turn, check results. With a gear diff, I have to disassemble the entire transmission, including from the swingarms back, remove all of the upper trans parts, like the slipper clutch, try not to lose the pin off the top shaft, without that you aren't going forward or backwards. Then split the case, take the gear diff out, get out your smallest screwdriver, disassemble the diff, empty the diff fluid, repack the diff with new fluid, hope you didn't scratch the gasket that goes between the two haves once you are reassembling the diff halves together again. You could also have not put enough fluid in or some leaked out so you get inconsistent results when you change the fluids. It's such a long process that is completely unnecessary considering the power plant that is in the buggy. I mean, you do you, but this is my opinion on it. Not throwing shade at all, just information.
The intro & narration was spot on 70's retro great job capturing the nostalgia Matt, yes I'm ordering one for my Tamiya collection great review & run thank's for sharing 😎👍
@scalebuildersguild I haven't seen anyone get kicked just ticketed for parking in the "drop off" loop. I don't think the place even gets maintained anymore.
IMO it's a Tamiya, scale model. The fact that i is radio controlled is just a bonus for everyone. I've had mine on pre-order since it was first announced because it is such a wonderful blend of vintage off-road and modern kit tech. Can't wait to get mine. Great video you ran it on the perfect surface.
Holy cow!! You absolutely killed it with this video!! The footage, the driving, color grading is fully spot on! Well done! Oh yeah, I need this buggy!!
Oh man I love me some Tamiya! Deffinitely will be picking up one of these for sure, maybe a second one for my kiddo so we can build and then run together.
This car definitely brings out the jealousy of a ten year old in me, I have to own one to run and one to shelf!! I remember not sleeping for the two days leading up to going to get my Hornet I was so excited, THIS brought it all back!! Of all the RCs I've collected over the years two thousand dollar and up crawlers, big money bashers and super loud and spendy fifth scales this lil buggy comes along and boom I feel like a kid again. Thank You Tamiya, I didn't know badly I needed that.
I'm just waiting on mine to come in. It's already on order. I'm glad to see that someone else appreciates this also. It's looking like it's going to be a nice little 2WD buggy.
Awesome intro! Straight out of an 70’s/80’s promotion😂. Such a beautiful buggy, not sure on colour, would likely use some of the Mint 400 vintage buggies for inspiration.
Hello, awesome retro intro video!! I just purchased this buggy, but i will admit, i am a complete novice. Can you explain the 22 tooth pinion you speak of? Thanks!
Sure thing. The car is driven by the motor, there is a gear on the motor called a pinion gear, which meshes with the Spur, which in turn spins the transmission. Changing the size of the pinion gear alters the overall speed and torque of the car. This one comes with a smaller pinion gear which means less overall speed.
Tamiya is just the company that everyone can't help but to feel nostalgic about. For a lot of us older 70's & 80's RC'ers Tamiya was the top tier, it was the brand that anyone who had a Tyco wanted. Although I get the feels seeing this new buggy from Tamiya I still do not have much desire to actually buy one hehe. I have a grasshopper that I built to commemorate my first real RC back in the day, but it is just a shelf queen so that when I walk past it every day I smile and remember a quieter simpler time when life was just easier. Great video as always, I always enjoy an SBG running video because the fluid filming and editing is always pleasant!
I think it's extremely cool. The first Tamiya I've wanted since the CR01 came out. Before that was 1989 when I bought my Clodbuster. Ya, so it's rare that I'm craving a Tamiya. I've had a Grasshopper before too. It was fun, for what it was. Currently have an 80's Clod, and 2 Blackfoots.
I was really happy to see this from Tamiya, I've been wanting one of their kits for a while and this one is a no brainer. The vintage rear cab style buggy has always been a fav (backyard ultra 3d racers anyone). As for colors, I'd fancy a cyan/teal with an off color type scheme perhaps. I guess we'll find out when my kit comes in! As always great video Matt, the beginning narration was a blast to the past and I do enjoy the talking while walking. Catch you on Wednesday!
Back in time - feels like I'm 13 again watching promo videos on a tiny tube TV in my local hobby shop 😂 ! Thank you - made my week. Now it only has to be finally delivered over here in Germany 👍 PS I think I will paint it in a 70s Porsche light blue or in a Dune Buggy lime gold metalflake colour
The narration 😂
But he’s doing the promo narration of the original eighties videos. A guy by the name of Bud Voss. The greatest promo videos ever!
Perf...ection
Sounded like rick and morty inter dimensional cable tv commercials
I totally loved the old school touch to the intro!!! Five stars! And the running video was great. Excellent piece of work man!
Much appreciated!
Gotta say man that was classic!!! Very cool and “original”. Way to go !!!!
the vintage narration is killin me!
Best. Intro. Ever. I wasn’t even alive in the ‘70’s and yet I feel the nostalgia!!!
From 0:00 to 3:11, I remember this commercial in the 80's. It's a good thing Tamiya re-released this BBX.
That 70s promo ad style intro was awesome 😄. You did a beautiful job building and painting. Want🙂
The voice over on the lo-fi video was the cherry on top 🤌
Oh my god my wish has been granted!!! I have been transported back to 85!!!! Thank you Matt!!!!👍👍👍
Thank you for saying aeration correctly.
No problem!
Thank you! this old guy got some memories back.......sometimes i miss the 80s
“Just goes where you point it” as he smacks into log…. 😂
😂
This is great old feeling Tamiya videos of the good Ole days . Great stuff
Glad you enjoyed it!
Am building my BBX at the moment! Have been watching your build to check few steps I was doing right, is my first RC build in 25yrs!
Nice! Welcome back to the hobby and good luck with the build!
I used to watch the old Tamiya ads on repeat this made my day 😂
Glad you liked it!
You even perfected the weird pauses in the narrator's voice just like the original videos 😂
Cool creation. I have ordered a Buggy Champ 2009. It is the flashback to a childhood itch that I couldn’t scratch. I’m curious about comparing these two for that sake of evolution.
Best "running" videos on UA-cam hands down! Thanks as always.
Wow, thanks!
Yup, nailed it. Took me back to starring at a screen in a certain model shop chain all them years ago.
Super glue the saver! It's a trick I learned on UA-cam. Ah very cool, I’ll give that a try! Thanks!
hello , a geared diff would be a nice option to get better steering , the ball diff enhances rear grip , a front tyre change would help too but i really like the tyre choice for multi surface running so finding steering through weight distribution and diff action would be a nicer way to go i feel . perhaps a shorty lipo pack slid forward with some foam to pack out the battery compartment ,
also a heavy all metal low pro servo from power hd or jx servo would bring some worthwhile grams to the front end .
an oil change in the damper ,softer front or firmer rear a more open front damper piston or more closed rear would also help .
i have found that front toe angle can be a very useful adjustment and is the easiest to effect while out having fun. enjoy your new toy , i am loving all the pics you shared on instagram . keep em coming and hav fun .
Thanks for the tips!

Beauty description- you really nailed the "feels" tamiya often delivers!
That old school commercial intro is killer 👏👏👏
Love the flashback to the 1970s commercial theme
The intro & narration was spot on 70's retro great job capturing the nostalgia Matt, yes I'm ordering one for my Tamiya collection great review & run thank's for sharing 😎👍
Have fun!
The intro is perfect!! Brings me back to the days in the hobby shop watching the VCR tape playing the Tamiya promotional videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes the vintage style footage was gold
It's like you somehow have experience doing commercials or promotional material for digital ads.. very 80s Tamiya nostalgia, nice work
Ha! I've made a few commercials 😂
I do like these buggies. Possibly the best new release from Tamiya in quite a while.
nailed it with the 80s intro!❤❤❤
Okay that intro was EPIC! I recognise the bike park! I take the kids there to ride and sometimes we bring our typhon mega's there.
Cool! I was worried that I'd get kicked out.
@scalebuildersguild I haven't seen anyone get kicked just ticketed for parking in the "drop off" loop. I don't think the place even gets maintained anymore.
Dude!
You had me at Tamiya!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Asplenia.
Glad you liked it!!
Tamiya is like a Honda in the motorcycle world, balance is key with perfect minor details to match
Yes. I am getting one. Sky blue 💙 that what I will paint it
The best word for an 18T pinion on this buggy is "sedate". LOL! Thanks for this fun video!
😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👏 that intro!!
I hope Tamiya starts making commercials again
Tamiya should do these ads again. Whatever it is, we'd probably buy it....and they know
Dude , that narrative was pure 80’s , I would have burst out laughing trying that
I had to have a bowl of popcorn in front of me for that intro.
Love the style and mood of the "review/old commercial" at the intro, great work Matt!
Glad you liked it!
Out of sight man ! I dig it
Admiral job mimicking the original 80s Tamiya voiceover!
Thank you!
Reminds me of the Kelloggs raisin bran box. The ad was amazing, perfect.
IMO it's a Tamiya, scale model. The fact that i is radio controlled is just a bonus for everyone. I've had mine on pre-order since it was first announced because it is such a wonderful blend of vintage off-road and modern kit tech. Can't wait to get mine. Enjoy it!
Love the narration! Felt like i was back in a hobby shop when i was 10! Very nice buggy!
You really nailed the Tamiya commercial remake ! Love it ! Great vid for what seems to be a great buggy !
Push the like button? Where’s the love button? Loved the intro and the buggy as well.
Wow! Thanks!
I still have some of my old Tamiya colored catalogs from the 80's
So cool!
Love the intro! 1983 all over again 😂
Omg hilarious Matt. So true to the Tamiya way on the narration. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Holy cow!! You absolutely killed it with this video!! The footage, the driving, color grading is fully spot on! Well done! Oh yeah, I need this buggy!!
Can you do a video on your filming setup? Some really nice shots!
I'd like to, but it's challenging, since I film alone. I don't have anyone to film me filming!
Had a 50s News Reel feel. Got in all the facts- just the facts, ma'am! Like!
"Maximum traction".....so good!😂
Love the old school ad style.
Great work
This looks super cool.
And I mean... the paint job
AWESOME.
Wish I could give this two thumbs up just for the old school Tamiya advert beginning!
That's crying out for a rough rider paint job.
Love the intro!!! Thanks for the honest feedback. I think I will pick one up to run against my RC10. Blue is the color
Oh man I love me some Tamiya! Deffinitely will be picking up one of these for sure, maybe a second one for my kiddo so we can build and then run together.
Go for it! That sounds like a lot of fun!
Finally! A current kit of a to scale buggy. Trailing arms and appropriate tire size to model ratio. Exciting. What's the best motor size 10t? 17t?
Nice retro intro. You nailed the "screen quality" and the narration
Glad you liked it!
Incredible job Matt 🤌🏻🤘🏼

Now THIS is the way.
I'm just waiting on mine to come in. It's already on order. I'm glad to see that someone else appreciates this also. It's looking like it's going to be a nice little 2WD buggy.
Hope you enjoy it!
24T pinon with slipper clutch.
I also bought the spare tire looks so real it's amazing!!!
Hahahaha! This is great! You nailed it! Thanks for making this!
Loved this! This is my second time watching the beginning!
I loved the intro, as I clicked play I could hear the old ad playing in my head and then you did it too 🤣
Awesome intro! Straight out of an 70’s/80’s promotion😂. Such a beautiful buggy, not sure on colour, would likely use some of the Mint 400 vintage buggies for inspiration.
Premium high performance materials 😂
I'm going for rough rider box art

That took me back to the 80s in my local Hobby store
Wow, just exceptional intro.
Glad you like it!
Mine's on pre-order hopefully available soon here in the UK, can't wait, unsure on the colour at the moment

You've got the suspension dialled in a treat. I loved watching it land the jumps. 🙂👍🏼👍🏼
Takes me back to the early 1980s got one in 81 the RC kit at that time was 50 bucks and 25 for the radio
Loved the homage to the 80s ads
If a Frog and a Fox had a baby! LOL I WANT ONE! That opening was SPECTACULAR made me feel 12 years old again HAHAHA
Probably not my bag, but it's still cool.
Comment for the algorithm!
Most interesting buggy tamiya have released for years.
the intro felt authentic
Love it! Love the old ad style, you did a great job capturing it :D
Old school driver! ❤
Absolutly fabulous baby! That buggy is groovy man.
Love this video + audio masterpiece.
Great work on the tamiya add did the voice fantastic! Kinda reminds me also of batman the TV show with the dramatic pauses! Thanks Matt🤟😃
Thank you very much!
@@scalebuildersguild love you work bro thank you very much 💯☮️
I feel like picking one up myself. If do it’s going to painted PS-16 Metallic Blue. It’s my favorite Tamiya blue.
Cheeky lil number for the soundtrack😂. Great video and reveiew
That intro could of been the original press material from the time period. Very entertaining! 👌
Glad you liked it!
I think it's extremely cool.

great video! I love the blues brothers feel of the intro
This is gold!!
I like your content but this intro KILLED IT!!!!!
Great job!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hey Matt! Loved your intro segment! This kit takes me back to my old Frog days! Thanks for the content!
Thanks for watching!
I loved the beginning narration! Great looking build. I’d like to get one since I love Tamiya buggies. I think I’d do some sort of minty color.
Back in time - feels like I'm 13 again watching promo videos on a tiny tube TV in my local hobby shop 😂 !
Thank you - made my week.
Now it only has to be finally delivered over here in Germany 👍
PS
I think I will paint it in a 70s Porsche light blue or in a Dune Buggy lime gold metalflake colour
Glad you liked it!
What a total nerd! And my wife wonders why I love this channel, lmao! 😉 Great video !
A BBX class at every local track, how fun would that be!
My wife calls me King of the Nerds 😂
@@scalebuildersguild Lol, you know I mean that in the nicest way (I'm sure your wife does, as well, lol)!
