Tara and Darcy are my absolute favourite couple in this show They’re so cute together and they’re not afraid of showing that they’re in a relationship I love them ❤❤❤
I love how you mention expanding your understanding of experiences different than your own. I think that people forget to care about people who don’t think, look, act or love like they do. By watching and learning about experiences different than your own, you become more empathetic as a person and more compassionate for all people❤️
I found this show a few days ago and I watched it already the second time. Because Iooooooove this show so much like I never had before. How they talk to another, how they solve problems without the drama, how they take step by step and don't rush into it. I love everything and I'm exited about the 3rd. Season ❤❤
Definitely LOVE Tara and Darcy. Tara, who brings a bit of light in Darcys life, her having a hard time at home. And Darcy being the reason Tara feel comfortable. You should def watch the show. Everyone's storyline is great. They all grow throughout the series. But I wanna shine some extra light on Isaacs storyline. I LOVE the aroace representation. Not just in a way of; Hi I'm aroace, I don't feel attraction. But the hard part of it. The; why does everyone feel this way, but I don't. Why have I never had crushes? Why am I feeling this way? And him discovering it through a side-character... Love it!!! Great show, have already watched it 4 times!!
If I had been around more christians like yourself as a kid/young adult, maybe I wouldn't have needed to leave the faith. I so appreciate you sticking up for those of us who just want to be free to be ourselves. Edit: its especially rare to see someone who calls themselves conservatice so invested in learning about other people's experiences. It shouldnt be so but it is. So thank you for leaning into your curiosity and compassion, it genuinely makes you better at your job and, i believe, a better person.
They really made you react to a fan edit blind? That's certainly a choice. Not that there's a Tara and Darcy scene you could really blind react to, their story is pretty gradual and gets so impactful and stronger in season 2. Very interesting what you said about your experience in women's studies. My gender studies class is pretty much full of people you'd expect to see there, so just people who already know a lot of the things we learn about.
I'd love to see Isaac's s2 storyline covered! He's discovering he's aroace and it's so great to see that on TV. I don't think I've ever seen a (human) character on TV be aromantic before and as an aromantic-spectrum person myself, it means so much. The storyline itself is written by an aroace woman and the acting was fantastic and everything was really (to use your word) heartfelt and authentic and carefully and respectfully handled. A lot of it really spoke to me.
I’m demisexual myself, so it was so nice to see an ace represented. It can be so difficult when you just don’t have that societal need to pair up. Yes, I can look at someone and know that they are “hot” by societal standards, and I might find them aesthetically pleasing to look at, but that doesn’t mean I want to “jump their bones”. I need a lot of intellectual stimulation. I want to get to know the other person’s brain. I want to talk about history, religion, and politics.
Thank you for being so honest and sincere with who you are, Jono! I'm on the path to become a counselor, and I'm a religious white demisexual female. I look to you as an example of someone who can provide excellent counselling without judgement, I really and truly appreciate your videos, here and on CinemaTherapy! You embrace difficult topics so openly, I'm so glad to have found your content!
One thing that I've herd a lot is, especially when it comes to characters,"why is coming out such a big deal?" Or " I am not homophobic, but just stop making gay their identity". I underatand some of these reasons or could possibly agree with some these criticism when it comes to these movies and shows, but a lot of this comes from a place of ignorance. Coming out is a "big deal" becuase there is no equality. Many has been using "gay" as a idendity becuase "gay' has always been a negative indendity. It isn't the "gays" that made it as an indetity, it is the homophobes and the bigots that did this. So it is weird how they attack gays and "liberals" of this when they didn't started this. There is zero country that made heterosexuality illegal. There is zero country that kills or arrest people because they are straight. So it is important to understand the context and reason.
Seriously, it's the BEST show. It's heartwarming and wholesom and it has become my personal happy place. I just can't help but smile (and maybe cry) when I see clips of it It's just such a positive story, it acknoledges the struggles of being queer especially in school and later on it also deals with mental health problems but it shows all those things being dealt with in a very good way
I love hearstopper so much because of its healthy portrayal of lgbtq+ teens. Nick, which is one of the main characters, comes out as bisexual, and as a bisexual myself, felt extremely seen and I was OVERJOYED with seeing a character as amazing and understanding as Nick be the representation for us fellow bisexuals, instead of the sexually active and cheating portrayal of us. The amount of dialogue among the characters is so refreshing as well. Compared to teen dramas we typically see where there’s a lot of miscommunication to the point where it’s hard to watch, hearstopper is a refreshing, healthy show that really just brings out the light in the lgbt experience. Idk if I’m explaining myself, all in all 10/10 absolute amazing show :)
Ted Lasso would say: Be curious, not judgmental. My neighbours are a gay married couple and I love them, they are some of the friendliest, warm and just kind people I've ever met. Are you gonna do anything from Hawkeye as well ?
THIS WAS AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for opening up about your journey to acceptance and love despite your religious upbringing. I had an extremely toxic fundamental upbringing and as someone who does have a queer identity, it took me until I was in my mid thirties to begin living authentically and feeling safe enough to do so. This was amazing!
I love your analysis of queer people and their struggles in society. I think I’m bi curious, beyond that, I believe everyone deserves to be respected regardless of gender, race or ethnicity. At the core of us all we all bleed and we all feel profoundly. Jono I’d love for you to give your thoughts on other LGBTQ+ shows like Love Victor and Young Royals! For Heartstopper I’d love for you to analyze Nick exploring being bisexual and coming out to his school. I’d also enjoy it if you analyzed Charlie’s eating disorder in season 2. Thank you so much for everything you do on this channel!
💛LOVE HEARTSTOPPER! 💙 Fantastic cast of dynamic young actors! So emotionally invested in these characters! Drop whatever you had planned to watch & see this series FIRST!
At this point I think it would be better for you to just watch at least all of season 1 (it's pretty short, only about 4 hours) so you understand the context of the scenes you keep being sent lol.
It's a relief to get a negative answer to a question I often can't even allow myself to ask: if I am myself here, am I in danger? Thank you for your statement and to the entire team for their work
I’m so glad you’ve been reacting to Heartstopper! Honestly I could go on about it for days, it’s my favorite show right now and I would definitely bring it up your watchlist. It’s so refreshing and new because it’s not everyday you get to see a perfectly balanced lgbtq+ show. Most of the time they focus on only the angst or self loathing and make out the queer experience as something so different from the straight experience when in reality, it’s not. We love the same. We all want to be happy, and this show does such a good job in capturing the idea that everyone is deserving of love in every single form of the word.
1:15 idk if they ever were actually official bc they kissed once when they were 13 and relationships don’t last long at that age 😂 also Nick is Bi (although didn’t know at the time) and wasn’t officially dating Charlie.
I loved this video! I definitly dropped a tear or 2 watching this because of the way u were talking about seeing yourself in other who are different than u are. I hope that the next generation can grow up in a world in which this mindset is more common and is even more accepting and openminded than it is now.
Nick is bisexual actually. A big portion of the first season is about his realizing this. Also, I love Tara and Darcy too. They're just as good as Nick and Charlie. I love that the second season has more about them.
I LOVE how authentic and "hey this is me" Johnno is! He's Christian, says it most videos, but he says this 10:42 and that is REALLY important. The Bible isn't a window or a hammer to look out into the world and beat people with...the Bible is a mirror to have you look at yourself Thank you Johnno for being so kind and open to learning other people ❤ (as they as is Mando) This is the way
The fact that youre reacting to an edit is so cool. I need to start binge watching your videos because you capture every feeling from the show perfectly without even seeing it
I don’t know if you’ll see this, but it would mean a lot if you analysed Ben’s apology to Charlie in S2. Long, Personal Explanation: my dad (straight, cis, religious man) watched the series with me (a recently out lesbian who connects a lot with charlie). He said he was disappointed with how charlie treated ben, stating that he was basically dipping down to ben’s level. He said charlie took the opportunity to “lash out” in anger and make ben feel every bit as worthless as ben had made charlie feel, which i disagree with. I pointed out how charlie didn’t use any terms that were targetted toward making ben feel worthless, only putting up CLEAR boundaries after his many attempts to cut ties, in addition to actually using his energy to explain to ben why and how his actions hurt so much. my dad said i was just defensive of charlie because i see a lot of myself in him and think he’s a perfect character. I am defensive of charlie, and i do see a lot of myself in him, but I know he is far from perfect. it admittedly hurts that a moment i saw as strong character development, and a healthy way of handling the confusing situation, to be seen as “dipping down to ben’s level”. To the point where my dad would blame charlie if ben were to hurt himself. it makes me worry about the kind of support i’ll have if i ever have the confidence to stand up for myself to someone like ben. So it would mean a lot if you, a licensed therapist, could cover the situation. I think it would provide a lot of people with better understanding of these difficult dynamics. Thank you for your videos
Thank you for reacting at this amazing show, but there is one thing that really annoyed me, that is you saying that nick is gay. He is BISEXUAL and this is really important to adress becouse so many bi people are just erased from stories and real life and there is so much bifobia. I’m not attacking you or hating on you, I get that you just didn’t know but it’s really important to me as a bi person to show bi charackters
Wow. I'm brand new here and I have to say.... what a refreshing perspective! Please, please do move this amazing show up on the list. I really look forward to seeing your truly delightful perspective on the story as a whole.
I am a young lesbian who also happens to be Christian, I have found I don't fully fit in either place and it's hard to be fully open about who I am in both areas. I get anxious around other people of faith because im afraid they would hate me and I can't talk about my faith to my other queer friends as they tend to make fun of Christianity especially because of their bad experiences with some of the people within it. It sucks because being queer and religious are not mutually exclusive but I don't feel completely welcome as I am in both spaces. People like you who help show you can be Christian and supportive/an ally or Christian and gay or trans really help and make me feel seen. I love seeing other Christians who are openly supportive as I feel so safe and just allowed to come as I am. Anyway all this to say, thank you ❤
I would like to point out that the music and editing of the order of the scenes here is possibly a fan edit because that's not the actual order of scenes in the show itself and also not the music in the show itself. I highly recommend watching the entire series sooner rather than later. I think you'll find it more rewarding than watching compilations of scenes. And possibly even better for reacting to because you get to see how the different characters interact with each other more than in the edits like this. I'm a social worker and this is absolutely an exemplary show for showcasing mental health issues faced by teenagers today, and particularly those faced by LGBTQ+ teens. And it's also just a sweet, beautiful series overall, and is easily now my most favorite TV show of all time, having overtaken the 20+ year run of Buffy as my favorite show.
Thanks for sharing. I took a Women's Study course in uni; I was the only guy. No one I knew said anything to me about it. I am glad I took the course. When I was younger, I took a family studies course in jr high, but it was a cooking class, and I was the only guy. Back then, I switched classes because I didn't want to take the chance of being teased; it was bad enough that I was a closeted gay teen (and being from a religious family, that was bad enough), never mind being physically disabled.
Heartstoper down the line starts to talk about other mental health stuff I realy want you to see it >_< also a new movie called Nimona is another good one to react to, has lbgt and mental health too
Oh this is so sweet! I think Tara and Darcy are done really well. As a queer person I can say that Heartstopper is worth the watch. It really is so comforting. And I love that even straight, privileged people can feel that. Thank you for this content 💛
The thing that can make a person feel most safe with you is exactly as you said, learning. I will feel most safe with you not if I think you will never hurt me, but if you demonstrate the ability to acknowledge when you do, validate my pain, and adjust immediately.
Something that I would perhaps like to see is his reaction to Imogen's abusive relationship with Ben and how she handles the relationship itself, but also the breakup and how they both handle it
A mild observation to begin with. Maybe it's the British pronunciation, but the first syllable of Tara's name rhymes with the first syllable of Darcy's name. So the first syllable of Tara rhymes with far, car, star, and not care, stare, and fair. This show is based on graphic novels by Alice Osman (British), and this relationship is expanded compared to the original graphic novel. Their relationship is far ahead of Nick and Charlie. In Season 1, they are just getting ready to come out as a couple. Darcy has been out (I believe) longer but they've hidden their relationship and Tara has been closeted. Nick, who is just coming to terms with his sexuality in Season 1, is inspired by Tara and Darcy's relationship, and sees it as something to aspire to. It's unclear that Nick and Tara were boyfriend and girlfriend. It's more of a childhood crush when they were maybe 12 years old that culminated in a kiss that others insinuate meant Nick was still hot for Tara. Nick, who is the star rugby player, is pressured by Harry, a rich kid and fellow rugby player, to meet up with Tara, who attends and all girls school with Darcy (and they meet Elle, a transsexual who just joined the girls school, and become friends). Nick is closeted and doesn't like the pressure he's feeling from Harry to meet up with Tara, and is much more comfortable hanging out with Charlie. It's amusing because Harry and the other rugby lads don't seem to have girlfriends, and yet Harry pressures Nick to have one, as if Harry is living vicariously through Nick, the captain of the rugby team. The actor who plays Harry based the character on typical jocks seen in the British school system, but turns out, the actor in real life has ADHD, I think, and is interested in making movies, so quite different from the character he portrays. Similarly, the guy playing Ben got along well with the entire cast despite playing a negative character. The interesting part (to me) about Tara and Darcy is how few lesbian relationships are shown in popular LGBTQIA shows and Heartstopper is looking at all kinds of queer relationships in a wholesome manner without all the tragedy and angst common in teen gay storylines. A common trope is having a single gay teen relationship. Heartstopper also has a lesbian relationship, as well as a trans girl. They mildly suggest one character may be asexual (which is dealt with more in Season 2, but probably will play a bigger role in Season 3). So they're interested in showing all kinds of queer relationships.
Love his women’s studies story :) I had an eye-opening about the male experience watching the Alex Skeel documentary. I understand that his situation was extreme, but it really made me think in a whole new way about pressures men face about masculinity and how hard it is for them to ask for help. The doc was great & the full thing is on UA-cam if anybody is interested - I recommend it.
Thanks so much for talking about these things. As a gay man who grew up in a super painful evangelical past, it means a lot to see you talk about these things. PREACH AWAY! 🎉 ALSO, you NEED TO WATCH HEARTSTOPPER 😊! I think you'll really enjoy it. I know it's not super realistic, but it's been healing to see what a super idealized version of coming out queer in high school would be like. What it would be like to actually go through your teenage angst as a teenager rather than much later in life after coming out. The show gave me space to mourn what I didn't have and had to work so hard to claim later in life.
I appreciate your honesty and views on the subject. I wish everyone was so open to learn and accept others for who they are. Everything you’ve said was welcome in my heart. Thank you❤

I love how you mention expanding your understanding of experiences different than your own. I think that people forget to care about people who don’t think, look, act or love like they do. By watching and learning about experiences different than your own, you become more empathetic as a person and more compassionate for all people❤️
I really hope you bump Heartstopper up your watch list and share your reactions! We need more professional reactions to these situations
Dr Elliott Carthy is reacting to all of the episodes and he is awesome!
@alilitooki I've binge-watch all his and their joint vid was how I originally found this channel! I love Cinematherapy too!
Young Royals and Please Like Me are another good queer rep
Nick is bi, actually 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈😂
A lot of it really spoke to me.
same, love it
I’m demisexual myself, so it was so nice to see an ace represented.
Others have already said, but please note that Nick is bi, actually 😉 It’s an important part of the character and show.
Honestly, Heartstopper should be at the top of your list because it’s a fast and easy watch. Also, it’s wholesome and genuine af! ❤🎉😊
I've never seen heartstopper is it worth the watch?
Its really nice. They also have a web comic that mirrors a lot of it and its really well made.
definitely
ABSOLUTELY
Yes!!!
Yes, 1000%, and the comics too!
Young Royals and Please Like Me are another good queer rep
nick is not gay and hadnt come out as bi at that point, he and tara kissed once and he did have a crush on her when they were young tho
Seriously, it's the BEST show. It's heartwarming and wholesom and it has become my personal happy place. I just can't help but smile (and maybe cry) when I see clips of it
It's just such a positive story, it acknoledges the struggles of being queer especially in school and later on it also deals with mental health problems but it shows all those things being dealt with in a very good way
I love hearstopper so much because of its healthy portrayal of lgbtq+ teens.
Nick is Bisexual, actually 😅😅if you know you know 😜😜
I wish all people had your mindset of learning other people's povs and undrstanding others.
1:20 he’s bi actually
THIS WAS AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for opening up about your journey to acceptance and love despite your religious upbringing. I had an extremely toxic fundamental upbringing and as someone who does have a queer identity, it took me until I was in my mid thirties to begin living authentically and feeling safe enough to do so. This was amazing!
Please credit the creator of your video somewhere. This video wasn't made by Netflix this has been fan created and they need to be credited
Tbh I think you should paus the other shows and watch it if you want too since watching both seasons would only take like maybe less than 8h😂
The eating disorder starts in season 1, it's just not very obvious. He should do a reaction and see of he picks up on it.
by the way nick is bisexual not gay but this video is great can’t wait to see you react to the whole show especially season two 😁😁
💛LOVE HEARTSTOPPER!
Thank you for your statement and to the entire team for their work
Your videos are so precious. Can't wait to see you react and analyse the entire show of Heartstopper ad all these special characters! 💖🍂🏳️🌈
We all want to be happy, and this show does such a good job in capturing the idea that everyone is deserving of love in every single form of the word.
nick is bisexual!!
Nick is bi 🩷💜💙
Nick is Bi, Actually xD (it's like a running gag. Watch it!)
Nick’s bi, actually
Nick is bi actually not gay!! This was very nice thank u
Nick is not gay- he is bi. Bi-erasure is a real thing and he says "I am bi, actually." a few times on the show.
Your producers are trying their hardest to get you to watch this series!
I LOVE how authentic and "hey this is me" Johnno is! He's Christian, says it most videos, but he says this 10:42 and that is REALLY important.
The Bible isn't a window or a hammer to look out into the world and beat people with...the Bible is a mirror to have you look at yourself
Thank you Johnno for being so kind and open to learning other people ❤ (as they as is Mando) This is the way
The fact that youre reacting to an edit is so cool. I need to start binge watching your videos because you capture every feeling from the show perfectly without even seeing it
Watch season 2 you understand Darcy
I don’t know if you’ll see this, but it would mean a lot if you analysed Ben’s apology to Charlie in S2.
Long, Personal Explanation:
my dad (straight, cis, religious man) watched the series with me (a recently out lesbian who connects a lot with charlie).
Back then, I switched classes because I didn't want to take the chance of being teased; it was bad enough that I was a closeted gay teen (and being from a religious family, that was bad enough), never mind being physically disabled.
as nick himself likes to mention, he is bi (actually)
I LOVE HEARTSTOPPER ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💗🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️💗💜💙
I love how the automatic subtitles changed Mended Light to "Men Delight". xD
If more people with faith acted like you, there'd be more people of faith.
In this clip Nick is not out yet, he is inspired by Tara and Darcy on being out.
I can't wait for you to watch the show and give more of your analysis about it !
Thank you for preaching! I'm 62, gay, and Heartstopper makes me so happy (and sad for the youth I didn't have).
Heartstoper down the line starts to talk about other mental health stuff I realy want you to see it >_< also a new movie called Nimona is another good one to react to, has lbgt and mental health too
I want a Cinema Therapy episode on Heartstopper pleaseeeee
Oh this is so sweet! I think Tara and Darcy are done really well. As a queer person I can say that Heartstopper is worth the watch. It really is so comforting. And I love that even straight, privileged people can feel that. Thank you for this content 💛
PLEASE watch the show asap, it is 100% the best show I’ve watched in years from a life lesson perspective it teaches so much
Just a correction, Nick is bi. Not gay
Nick is not gay. He is bisexual
No Nick is bisexual, not gay.
Hey there, Nick is not gay, he is bi
You should move it up your Q!
He's bi, actually...
The thing that can make a person feel most safe with you is exactly as you said, learning. I will feel most safe with you not if I think you will never hurt me, but if you demonstrate the ability to acknowledge when you do, validate my pain, and adjust immediately.
You should definitely watch it soon, the 2 seasons are only 8 hours all together so please watch it soon it's soooo good
Your segways are getting better. I also think you should watch this show
Something that I would perhaps like to see is his reaction to Imogen's abusive relationship with Ben and how she handles the relationship itself, but also the breakup and how they both handle it
He’s bi actually
*Nick is bisexual
Nicks Bi, actually 😂😂
Thanks so much for talking about these things. As a gay man who grew up in a super painful evangelical past, it means a lot to see you talk about these things. PREACH AWAY! 🎉
ALSO, you NEED TO WATCH HEARTSTOPPER 😊!
Move it up the queue, move it up the queue!! 🤩
I appreciate your honesty and views on the subject. I wish everyone was so open to learn and accept others for who they are. Everything you’ve said was welcome in my heart. Thank you❤
Also btw the way the phrasing is so consistent in these comments bc "bi, actually" is a line in the show repeated
