Hey Chris! Just wanted to say thank you. Every time I feel depressed about my musician's career, I watch one of your videos and it's unbelievable how much you motivate me to keep going. It's easy to see how much effort and passion you put in your videos and your music, I love both! Keep on going bro! Saludos desde Argentina!!
Everything you're saying is true and good advice. What's a real shame is that this is 2018 and not 1980. For those of you too young to remember those days..... there were ten times the amount of places that would hire live bands. DJ's and bars with built in sound didn't exist to a great extent. More places putting on live music means many more opportunities for bands to play. The thought of playing for free would have laughable back then. Sorry you young guys missed it!
Hey just liked your video. Super encouraging! i had a question. I'm trying to contact a local band and they have 2 emails. 1 is a personal one, while the other says "booking". Which one should i contact? Im guessing booking is if "I" would want to book them or does it mean something else?
Thank you for this information, I've been managing louisiana local "Followed" and weve gotten to the point our local fan base is very strong but they have no tour experience yet! great info!
You will build your experience the further you venture out. Be consistent and take time to be with the fans. Be glad your in a band and not a solo act. It's damn near impossible
One Key Side Note: If you are really talented big artist don't care about your money They want people less talented than them (Jealousy is an issue. Secretly Sabatoge Sound system etc.
So who do you talk to, to buy on a tour? I still don’t understand. You told me all the good things but reaching out to just the band isn’t going to get a response a majority of the time.
This info was great but it just doesnt seem like it would work in Australia, being as isolated as we are you dont get bands going on tour without everything already pre booked. So what would you say in terms of trying to book in advance like would you just hit them up when you think they are gonna tour ??
Why do you make it sound like buy ons are so cheap? Someone wanted to charge me 600$ for 3 dates and there draw was less then 30 per night . It wasn’t logical at all, maybe if it was 100 for all 3 dates yes but not 600$. I’m hoping it ends up being around those prices you mentioned when I finally get some responses
8.00 right on. Music = money, always has been. Mozart, Bach etc weren't playing for the streets. But you have to invest it wise, not just into every music website.
Where did you get the "100s of thousands of dollars" to put into your career before getting on tour? Most bands don't have that much to invest. They usually have to scrape together barely enough to pay for recordings.
Tour buy ons are universally a red flag. If a “promoter” or “label” or band ever asks you to buy onto a tour, run the other way as fast as possible!!! Those people are not real players in the industry and will not turn out to be the people that you would expect them to be. Anyone that asks you for an upfront fee to buy onto a tour is either desperate, in dire financial straits, on the back ends of their careers, or all of the above. Booking agents and managers always work off of commissions. They don’t make money until YOU do.
1. Buying onto a tour that is worth your time will MOST LIKELY cost much more than $500.... 2. I hope you sell more than $500 - $1500 a month in merch if you are on tour...

I had to stop the video. I wasn't expecting to hear a band I liked. Superchick! Wow! Odd how many views this has. Lucky me I struck gold.

I've been looking for this information. As a singer/songwriter/composer I plan to start a band and get this thing moving.

Now this is excellent advice! !! Ty from "Jeff and Mario Band"
Would you buy a tour that cost 500$ a day? For a month?
Great video, any good database of booking agents out there?
Hey man thank you so much for this info, but do bands that pay into tours get a door guarantee? Or you just make a profit of merch sales?
