I just checked the FAA website and it states that the limitation is “ Any aircraft authorized under federal law to carry not more than 6 occupants”. One being a pilot, the others have to be passengers. Was it changed?
Good to know. 😊 I'm an inactive Private pilot. I can't enjoy my full privileges because of meds that I take for a chronic condition, so I'm effectively grounded as a PIC. Will Basic Med allow me to fly again (when I can afford it)?
With Basic Med, the provisions to stay within the limitations is ridiculous and for What??? The aircraft can not exceed 250kts? What does it matter with any of the provisions that allow anyone to use their drivers license as a medical? Are we forgetting that any aircraft regardless of it's use under Basic Med provisions will always be a safety factor if it involved a Piper Cub, so why have any limitations at all on high performance aircraft regardless of it's top speed? I think it should be unlimited since we got to this point when Basic Med was introduced. Medical or No Medical, No one is exempt from having a surprised pop up health issue while they are Pilot In Command! It seems to me since I went out of currency in 2010 but I still have a passion for flying, the aviation industry has laxed it's rules a lot because they need more pilots that badly! It's a GOOD THING! I am ok with our freedom to fly, but disappointed that since I started flying back in 1999, I have seen so many other pilots struggle and feel rejected when the provisions of 3rd, 2nd, 1st Class Medicals years ago were the only options, but now Basic Med should be the only Medical to Exist at all under the FAA Ruling. Why Bother with 1st, 2nd, 3rd Class Medicals? Because the AME needs the money too?? I just don't get all the Wish Washiness controversy going on in the aviation community regarding having any provisions at all. Do away with Medicals all together! That way, life will be way more simple! It's the politics, narrative and agendas that keep aviation expensive, limiting those who have a true passion for it! Good Luck!
When did this change? It was aircraft must not be certified to carry no more than 6 people including pilot .certified max weight 6000
Last I checked it was as you just stated. I'm going to have to check as well.
Basic Med just changed this year in the “2024 FAA Reauthorization Act”
So it actually is 7 seats 7 passengers now as the video states?
I believe this was supposed to go into effect Nov 1, but ecfr.gov doesn't show a change yet so I guess not
Looks like the real effective date is Nov 12
