YES
First off, thank you for the time taken to test/showcase this, Fabio!
DX12 is fine but Vulkan is the real deal, especially since the SDK provides a full pipeline for developers, we should start seeing Vulkan ray tracing more and more often. Considering it can run on RT cores AND compute units we can expect better lighting in all games across all platforms. Plus with the ability to bring DXR code to Vulkan we might finally witness ray tracing which doesn’t impact performance as much as DXR currently does.
Live long and prosper Vulkan!
Agreed!
And forgot to say that best which is that it's cross platform!
vulkan do not support real time ray tracing .... offline mode then baked ONLY
Well sadly RT won't be a realtime feature for a while. At least not realtime in what raytracing is capable of. What we do with raytracing now is just reflections/refractions and shadows, which usually implements just one bounce, but if we wanted to solve global illumination with raytracing, games would be unplayable just yet. We shall get there, but just not now.
To be honest, graphics is not what games need these days. I would start with the basics and improve storylines, customization, gameplay mechanics etc...
Oh how I hope Vulkan will become the standard API for game developers asap.
Indeed
Isnt it super hard to develop games in vulkan tho
Today, 184 Vulkan games support vs 271 DX12 games support, close but not sure Vulkan win the fight
It is too hard to develop games with vulkan
developing Vulkan games might be possible for experienced game devs but for indie games could be rough for them to take it, especially unity games.
Vulkan is the goat, performance is insanely good and it is even spported on mobile devices!
Dx11 is good
Dx12 is a stuttery mess that consistently performs worse than Dx11 somehow for my PC
Vulkan is just fucking awesome imo
DX12 stutters a bit until it builds a shader cache. Then it's smooth AF.
Vulkan builds shader cache aswell, usually before the game starts
Every Vulkan game I have played on my PC works way better than any other game with other API.
Doom Eternal, Rainbow Six, Red Dead Redemption, Hades...
I would say 98% of the time buttery smooth.
DX12 has been very poorly optimized most of the times and most of the time I have been dealing a lot with stuttering.
We need more Vulkan!
Vulkan is just top notch usually
DX12 is just horrible for AMD systems it performs worse than DX11. The whole DirectX and OpenGL stuff is just NVidia sponsored shills trying to undermine AMD
Cannot comment on the others, but RDR2 is better in DX12.
@@LeMAD22 DX12 beats vulkan 90% of the time, all benchmarks proofed that.
bro yet an awesome video again, I actually learned from this video
That was what i wanted to do. Big hug
Great video, thnx, learned a lot! The length function is, I think, actually quite expensive to run due to the sqrt. Can’t you compare to radius square? E.g: sqrt(x^2 + y^2) < radius to x^2 + y^2 < radius^2. Which would be x * x + y * y < r * r?
Thank you for this test! New subscriber here! I’m looking forward to more videos😎
Lay an eye on my video section 💪💪
Such a good video! Thank you Fabio! I just have one question, what about DX 11 enhanced in PUBG? does it matter or is it better to keep DX 11 (regular) in PUBG? Using a 6700XT these days btw.
From my own testing, dx11 is better
Fabio, well done, as always a wonderful test that no one did. It's unclear why there are so few likes? :3

Hi. Your thumbnail suggested me watching a video where you compare the three api‘s in pubg. But sadly, this wasn‘t the case. Anyway, keep it up and stay safe.
Yeah, sadly. Sorry about that
Lmao i always love you intros
Great haha
Good one! Btw recently Flight Simulator 2020 got support for dx12 (still in beta). I tried very briefly between the two, and it seemed I got better performanec with dx11 still
Oh nice, seems thst beta implementations are always a crap
RDR2 doubles the vram usage in Vulkan than in DX12. That's insane, but the minimums are massively improved. Very interesting.
Indeed
I think being vram limited will become an issue in the coming years if you don't have at least a 8gb or better 10gb GPU.
@@alouisschafer7212its already an issue now.
Devs saying 16gb should be the standard for all gpus and 8 core cpu
Hello, I have a acer laptop which has Nvidia GeForce mx150. Should I use Directx11 or Vulkan on my dota 2?
For me when I played red dead 2 on ultra and dx12, the game would either work perfect or stutter outta nowhere and won't stop stuttering. Switching to vulkan it was perfect with no stutters. I have a 3070ti and rx5600x
Dx11 could be caching shaders I think
How do u get vulkan for a game (I’m a newbie)? Using a 6700XT rn
same. i got 5600x+6800xt
I'm a fan of Star Citizen, the game now works with the old DX11 with 64-bit engine there are gigantic locations, there is no uploading between locations, everything works in the background, rendering, etc. You discover places where there are big capitals, stations in orbit. There you will find out how the API DX11 does not catch up, the graphics card has smaller frames, the usability of the GPU decreases. Manufacturers of RSI - Star Citizen are working on API Vulkan, where they optimize these ailments with performance and overall the Universe will be more pleasant, I'm looking forward to it :-)
Yeah, because the DX11 just can't match the draw calls and MT ability of the DX12/Vulkan, then the CPU gets bottlenecked by the API :D
Dx12 and Vulcan had a rough start, for a long time DX11 was mostly faster in alot of games with the at the time available GPUs, but with recent generations there's no reason not to pick the newest API. PUBG seems to be an outlier tho, very strange.
Also LOL at that intro :D
Thanks for watching
@@AncientGameplays Thanks for video 🙂🙌🍀
Test Cyberpunk and RDR2 at full ultra settings please. What keyboard are you using on your main PC ?
Test for what? Also, main keybpard is logitech g513
OP, you should do some benchmarks of Borderlands 2 and GTA IV on DirectX9 vs Vulkan (via DXVK Async) for some tremendous performance improvements
I didnt test some older games but was thinking about that today. That dxvk could improve older games. It has async now? I tested it like 2 years ago
Borderlands 2 has about 50% higher performance on Vulkan on 30 series cards.
Pubg is what I play the most. Switched to dx12 when it was introduced with pubg. After watching this, no wonder it had alot of screen freezes in-game & game crashing so often. My 1080ti was doing 200+ with dx11 before & with dx12, it doesn't cross 200fps ever. Gonna switch back to dx11. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching
i have gtx 1050 ti 4gb asus. i dont know but he d11 or d12? ha? guys?
It would be interesting to test DX11 vs DX12 vs Vulkan on PC with weak processor and strong graphics card. Will new API eliminate the bottleneck?
In theory yes. I had a lot of issues emulating GameCube even with a great GPU. But now Vulcan can use Dolphin and changing in the setting to ignore CPU petitions and runs to full speed
Vulkan and DX12 has multi thread support, OpenGL and DX11 can bottleneck cpu's first core
very informative
Thank you my friend
THX
Actually there is a game supporting explicit multi-gpu
(support for two gpus from different vendors) and you even have it in your video - Ashes of singularity.
There is also a lot of benchmarks with GTX 980Ti and R9 Fury X working together in this game.
And you have also strange brigade. But that doesn't mean anything
Very educational video, thanks.
Had problems with Fortnite in 2022 with DX 11, so sold 6700xt and surprise, surprise rtx 3080 was butter smooth. But when UE5 implemented in Fortnite, started having problems with DX 12 Lumen with 3080, while watching rx cards working way way better in DX 12.
Also keep in mind that NVidia's driver needs around 18% more CPU horsepower than AMD's drivers. So, if you have a slower cpu, amd is better. On high end spu's the difference is less noticeable. This was proven in a great video by Hardware Unboxed. I think NVidia does the scheduling in software in contrast to AMD in hardware.
Yes, but better apis like dx12 and vulkan do help in terms of cpu overhead. And, the 18% is just for slower cpus
wrong ... first of all hardware unboxed is one of the worst reference ... he';s against nvidia and intel and the comparison is always off ... like comparing ddr4 3600 mhz for intel and amd to test "PERFORMANCE" lol of course, the ryzen is at maximum ram speed while intel can go 5800mhz no problem ....
the main difference is nvidia is real performance while amd use virtual performance. i'm talking about amd super resolution .... always enabled in driver and share fsr algorithm ... so one side, you have native resolution and the other side upscale technologies... why are you so surprise than real performance require more resources?
@@martindubois9279 You are so wrong.

Hi Fabio! Since you're the most reliable source on AMD things, I have an important question! 110C on junction temperatures on a XFX RX6700XT are way too high, right? This started suddenly and I've never had overheating problems. How can I fix it?
Hey man, they arent "too high", but definitely highm undervolt your GPU
@@AncientGameplays I wonder why they have the newer cards get that hot does it not bottleneck I understand it's the junction or memory in the gpu.
Because the junction is normal to get to those value in cheaper models. Core will be like 80C usually. Some lower end models are reaply crappy sadly. Even my stock one wouldnt reach even close to that when tuned
@@AncientGameplays interesting edit) especially when these cards are around 1k but hey if it works it works

You cant download vulkan per se. The game either support it, or not
Hey, how about some DX12/Vulkan vs DX11 on old RX580 and Vega56? These are hard times ( :D ) and there is still lot of us on older GPUs. I can't remember if you have some GeForce GPUs on hand, but you can throw them into the mix too.
i made one before with RX 5700XT, but its the same. All AMD cards benefit from using Vulkan and DX12 apart from really specific scenarios, even new NVIDIA ones
I get 6.5% more FPS (214 vs 201) using DX11 rather than Vulkan in R6:Siege on 5600X + GTX 1060 3GB. Minimal FPS is better with DX11 as well. I guess its just NVIDIA GPUs don't benefit that much from Vulkan as AMD ones
Yeap, that is because older Nvidia GPUs didn't properly use Vulkan
my game detroit become human need a latest update of vulkan because of crashing scenes and i have rx 5500xt
what vulkan version should i install ?
You shouldnt have to install anything manually at all, but try downloading it

Cheers for this! On a different note, how are your guys performances on BF2042? I got an 3900x with rx6700xt undervolted and slightly over clocked. I have everything on low and still get stuttering and bad performance. Tried turning on DX12 in the video config file, didn't help.
Anyone else in the same boat?
If that happens, then it is clearly cpu and ram sided (and the games as well ofc)
@@AncientGameplays i feel like the game is badly optimized. Maybe it will get better as time moves on, as I have good performance in other games.
@@F1REBEARD the game is badly optimized, but slow RAM will suffer, and 3900X isn't also that great. It has lots of cores and cache but IPC is not that great. A great overall CPU tho

Vulkan shines on support for a lot of platforms, dx11-12 is only supported in windows.
True
If it works on Windows, makes no difference to most people how many platforms it supports.
My research and my own results show that when 4G encoding is enabled it tanks performance on vulkan
Maybe you have an older bios. I test lots of vulkan games with it on and off, and still the perf was higher due to SAM (SAM needs 4G decoding)
What about in a Nvidia+Intel's platform and next combined brands?
Same thi g for newer gpus
Does vulkan look better than direct x 11?
No, this is just performance wise. Vulkan just looks better if it has more settings that aren't presented with dx11, like raytracing
Excellent video man, insta sub! DX12 and Vulkan are pretty much required for AMD cards on emulators, due to their shi*ty driver optimization on DX11 and OpenGL.

there one point that can do nice complement to that nice content bring out is the limitation on hardware level for many user using older gear face whit those new api direct 12 and vulkan see gonna help people avoid paying big buck for obsolete hardware that simply can not offer native support for it.Still see crazy level price for old stuff serie none sense. But direct 12 and vulkan been new devellopper may need more time to fine tune those api but we will get there in 2025 lol
All older amd gpus supporting dx12 and vulkan, perform better with it. The nvidia GPUs though were performing worse on most scenarios with dx12 sadly...
*OpenGL VS Vulkan*
the problem with RDR2's Vulkan is that the game looks very blurry while DX12 looks very sharp, also I haven't had a 15 fps lows/minimum not even once, no DLSS, indeed Vulkan runs much better and smoother but holy fuck its blurry
