3yrs later, and mine is still in my pocket. K390 is da bomb.
Everyone talks about how hard K390 WILL be to sharpen, I have to say it was way easier than I expected. Took me about as long as it does for S30V, and it came up with a nice polish from the strops too, really surprised me. This was using the KME system btw
Thanks for the detailed video. I've had a VG10 Dragonfly 2 for years and I've been looking for an upgraded Delica to justify trying that design. I'm pretty sure this is it.
It's a great knife and steel, I've been using the K390 Delica every day for 3+ weeks, it's still sharp.

This is the only k390 seki city model I haven’t picked up yet....the k390 dragonfly, endela and endura are all *fantastic* knives. It’s difficult to overstate their beauty, both functionally and ergonomically. My favorite Spyderco will probably always be the crucarta Shaman. It’s just got too much going for it...it’s my perfect pocket knife. But these aren’t far off. Dress up that Endura with a nice set of micarta scales and the Shaman will be getting a serious run for its money....
One thing I've learned with my Delica is that its not a knife to fidget with. Open it use it and put it away lol. I grabbed the DLT cpm20cv exclusive.
I picked up on of these like a month or so ago and I’m so glad I did! K390 is a beast of course but I was really surprised on how much I’ve connected with my delica! It’s actually fun to play with even tho it’s a back lock and after I put a mxg deep carry clip on it, it carries great!
I got this knife, in K390, and love it.

I have a lot of knives at this point, and the one I carry everyday (I usually carry 2 or 3), is my serrated Delica in K390. Now that it's been discontinued, I ordered 2 more for backups.
Delica is the best pocket knife in the world imo

Never understood why they don't take the finger choil from the Stretch and incorporate it into this and the Endura/Endela.
Love the Delica. Have it in K390, M390, Cru-Wear, SG2, and of course VG10. Take a historically great knife in the Delica and give it a finger choil and G10 scales. Bamn, that would breathe life into an whole next generation of Delicas.

@@michael6402 - yeah. I have seen acrylic and steel versions, but damn they are expensive for a VG10 blade.

I was considering buying this knife and yours is one of the most detailed reviews i could find; I already havea vg10 delica and was considering upgrading it to a zdp189 or a k390 version or change platform and buy a para 3 lightweight. having you held all of these knives, which one do you suggest me picking up? thank you for your time and keep up the great videos!
Just got the Lil Temperance 3 LW!!! Super robust, sort or Shaman blade cut out to Spear point. Really feel confident as user, and supposed to self defense in mind in design. This is a rare time I like it in the Spyderco frn. Seki City colorway, style. Please, head to head to Maxamet vs K390, MC?!!

The k390 dragonfly hasn't left my back left pocket since the day I got it in octoberish and it's about as sharp as it was then.
Stands to reason if it’s been in your pocket the whole time.
I’m gonna try to pick up 🆙 ne of the discontinued warnies n give it the lynch nw scale upgrade.. in a high humidity area though, so will need to make sure I oil it
Short answer, if you really use k390, it will corrode. my blade has turned black with corrosion, but it works fine, holds an edge. if you work outside, especially in humid or salty environments, it will tarnish BIGTIME.
Do you oil it? Mineral oil should prevent corrosion.
@@FreedomFox1 it's not practical to oil my knife while working. Dancing around the fact that k390 is a tarnish magnet is silly. If you use it, the blade will be black in 6 months. I just sharpen it and it continues to perform great however!
@@jaystrongbow9435 I haven’t had that experience, just oil it up at the end of the day (even then, only if it gets used a lot). But I could see it being an issue if you get something like food stuck to the blade.
At 10:18, I am quite confident that those two black spots on the blade and the one tiny spot on the edge were caused by corrosion. They may not have been deep enough to be called pits, but they resulted from corrosion. That's why you had a hard time removing them in the video.
The Delica is just missing a finger choil. Add some g10 scales and a wire clip and I'm sold. Basically, just make an extra large Dragonfly in g10.

whats your thought between k390 and maxament. is k390 a better all purpose steel. i guess we are always looking for that one knife that last forever. i have the para 3 in max as well but its just too small of a knife. i have the itch to buy another knife.
K390 has better toughness but it won't hold an edge as long. I have a keychain Ladybug in K390 and my Para 3 is in Maxamet. Both are monsters. I can't tell the difference during daily general use
@@metal_complex thank you. I gues at that point the knife style becomes more of a factor since they both exceeded my cutting uses. I have the para 3 in max as I said but I really like the endura handle length. 1st world problems I guess.
Just snagged me a KnifeJoy exclusive 20cv Delica🔥
Just a warning to anybody taking this knife apart (I did it) you need 3 hands to put it back together. I had to use my teeth to put the screw back in that goes through the back lock spring back while using my hands to hold the tension down.
I agree! Its a very bad idea to take it appart. Just dont do it!
Assemble the knife but leave the back lock pin out, close the blade up, push the back lock down onto the spring and simultaneously push the pin through until the back lock hole meets up with the pin and it pops through. Takes about 20-30 seconds, no more. Simple.

Comes down to want stainless or not. K390 will rust easier than M390
@@cameronbottoms1118 think I'm going m390. I want a pm2 or pm3 in k390 and maxamet. The delica would be an every day carry like my spy27 pm3 lw and I live in Texas by the river. So humidity stays above 80% most of the year 😫

Why haven't we seen any coated K390?
Especially from Spyderco, I would've thought they'd have released some DLC K390 or DLC Maxamet by now, so we can get all the awesomeness of these steels without worrying about the corrosion so much.
And I don't seem to see anyone else talking about it. Why is that?? :o)
K390 has a higher carbon content it will hold an edge longer. Maxamet has more chromium content making it more corrosion resistant. Great video though!
Started to pry with mine the other day without thinking but caught myself before I snapped it. Ik k390 ain’t crazy tough especially in this thickness
