Their predictions are that unless we take urgent action temperatures are set to rise by 3°C by the end of the century. Emissions are still increasing, so although climate scientists say it's too soon to say if this is an exceptional year or a continuing trend, I think that's optimistic. And with Trump giving the oil companies a blank cheque, I fear it could get much worse. The environmental damage, sea level rises because of the melting of Antarctica glaciers and permafrost (which stores a huge amount of carbon and it's already happening, something that hasn't been seen for thousands of years) will cause Pacific Island nations to be submerged. Increases in hurricanes, typhoons and the disruption caused by migration on a scale not seen will stretch our systems to breaking point. I'm not sure they'll cope. Add to that the disruption in supply chains, exacerbated by his tariffs and the changes could be devastating, cataclysmic and global. Of course I want to see the post masters get justice, but if things get as bad as I fear they might, Trump's deranged and evil behaviour could make the whole thing moot.
@@isobelbrookhaslam9547 I think the reason for the post was because Sopel initially said the criticism of Huw Edwards was unfair and that he'd done nothing illegal (when he had). Then when the nature of his offences came to light Jon was strangely silent. I'd guess the poster is implying that Jon should maybe sit the Gregg Wallace debate out given his behaviour over Edwards.
A bit of a sweeping statement, Emily. Judging by my experience on social media there are plenty of women sticking up for Wallace and plenty of men think Wallace has only himself to blame.
Although i'm now retired i was fortunate to work for a Company that did not tolerate this sort of behavior...and i have too much respect for women to act in that way .
I remember my pal got a job fresh out of school in around year 2000 when he was 17. He worked in a factory. There were gangs of older women making comments about having a 'younger man' around and he told me it made him uncomfortable, and this was almost 25 years ago. Just saying, it can work both ways. In that era, you just got told to man the f*ck up, especially as a male, no matter how young or inexperienced in the workplace you were.
It sounded idyllic...All those older women clucking over him like mother hens...what a fabulous first job to have had, & what a twonk that he did not fully embrace & enjoy all the attention....
yeah...I had the same thing at my first job out of school...but no one cares when it is the guy. Look what one of the me-to founder Asia Argento did and got away with it. (look it up). She paid hush money besides. This is BS and hypocrisy at its best.
Emily makes valid points. Having done research into bullying and harassment the reactions on x seen on Sunday and Monday were typical of someone who has been called out - Victim Blaming, Gaslighting and DARVO.
possibly, but then proceeds to do it herself, men are saying they're victims, saying women are harridans. Literally nobody is saying this, just the voices in her head.
I was sexually harassed/assaulted out of three jobs by the time I was 27 so went freelance. Still facing inappropriate comments but at least I'm not in an office so won't be pulled onto a sixty-year-old man's lap or have my hair stroked while I'm standing at the photocopier.
The same people who are making a fan dance out of Wallace being obnoxious looked the other way with Jimmy Saville, Huw Edwards and the Rochdale Grooming Gangs. This isn’t the news. It’s a church sermon.
I totally agree with Emily. This is precisely the reason we thought Pres Biden pardoned his son. I guess it wasn't an easy decision to make but in the end, gods know what Trump would have done to Hunter Biden.
It reallly seems that the world of (uyes, middle class) celebrity and media are the only ones terribly upset by Gregg Wallace's comments. In the scheme of things, given the state of the world and what people are experiencing in Gaza , the Ukraine and Sudan and elsewhere, where is the perspective?
Really, why are we talking about anything that doesn`t happen in a war zone, where is the perspective here? Strange that you don`t complain about the talk about Biden pardoning Hunter or any other topic that was mentioned. It`s seems like only the fact that people won`t let it slide when a man harasses women is what`s bothering you.
Please do not tar all men with the same brush Em, I, as a 56y/o male, would never dream of doing & saying the things that GW said over the weekend. I am not a fan of Andrew Tate and all of those other no hopers who call themselves alpha males or any of that sh*te.I am by no means perfect but i do not feel challenged by women expressing themselves, I am not transphobic or anti LGBTQ+ but I am very respectful of others & views. So please don't say men will etc etc; undoubtedly some will but not all of us.
I think the main problem is that before the 90's men were taught to respect women. During the 90's some women rejected the 'condescending' behaviour of men (opening doors, giving way on street, respect and politeness etc) in favour of independence. Some of us still hold these ancient values, but others changed to fit in with the new values in society. I'd say the best thing governments could do these days if they want to make a massive change to society is to teach manners and respect to all.
You have to be male if you think women were more respected before the 90s. 1990s was a liberation of women towards greater equality. Polite traditions do not equate to respect of an equal person. Politeness goes a long way with many people, but that is not the same as equality.
Yes, we need a manners license what a great suggestion. We could give it a name like, I don't know, Social Credit. Then we can shame all non Government approved thinking, what could go wrong?
As somebody that was born a long time before that, I call BS on that notion. I had a boss in the 80's he'd open the door for a lady with the right hand and simultaneously grab her bottom with his left had. Even wives of employees at the Christmas party if he fancied them. Sexualised abuse has nothing to do with manners and everything to do with power. Past, present, and future.
Very thoughtful - and obviously what Emily said about why people don't speak up, was spot on. But then when Jon added that this explained why it was "middle-aged women" because they could risk saying it, that's just it isn't it?
Thank you for covering this. It is nice to hear voices of reason. Especially a male voice of reason!! Looking at comments online to see men defend this behavior was expected. It's the women defending it that is heartbreaking 😢
There has been a revolution in Korea and we’re worried about an elderly minor television presenter with dated views. It feels like the media has lost perspective. Somehow you two have hung a half hour on this.
I don't think the metoo movement has "helped" men- I think it was handled badly like many progressive movements where it becomes more about individuals' vitriol in online spaces than it does about how to solve the actual issue and very predictably is met with a backlash or "culture war" partisan response.
Get a life this is trivia and you are milking it for all it's worth. If he's guilty he does not deserve this shitstorm. If the offended people had spoken up at the time he probably would have modified his behaviour. You epitomise what is wrong with the media. I find your smug authority awful.
Not all men agree with Greg, nor do I think I can't say anything. Simply put, you can 'banter' but just make sure you know the women you're around and that they are comfortable with your sense of humour. Doesn't even seem like he was making jokes for a lot of the complaints, just strange stories
By the sounds of it he was making crass jokes and boasting about his younger wife and he would intimidate anyone not laughing. I don't think it just a case of being comfortable with his sense of humour, it seems it was relentless and the people subject to it couldn't escape it.
I've despised Wallace and everything he represents since he first appeared on TV...and now his arrogantly grinning gob haunts me. I find him totally devoid of any talent other than being a shallow figurehead for the TV world to make money from. I hope he's been well and truly found out and he 's demonised for the rest of his time. He'll no doubt be offered some dodgy job by a right wing benefactor....but that's certainly not going to make him a better person.
As a fully grown adult man I am sick of this stuff coming out and don’t understand how guys are still getting away with it for so long. If this was my workplace I’d be out after day one.
These women are not victims are they? There’s been no crime committed? Feeling uncomfortable is not something that should mean you’re in trouble. This whole thing isn’t a serious story at all.
@@GorgeDawes I don’t understand why you want things that aren’t criminal to be policed as if they are, he’s an embarrassing David Brent type character who I don’t much enjoy watching on TV. People have come forward now saying he sexually assaulted them, I hope he’s dealt with as severely as possible should these allegations be true as this is completely unacceptable. Making some jokes in poor taste should not mean you lose your job however!
There have been nonces throughout time. Wallace’s alleged behaviour has been unacceptable for decades. I’m older than him and this sort of abuse has never been tolerated.
I must say I very much enjoyed your podcast. And it's made me realize how much I miss you, Emily (if you'll forgive the familiarity) on BBC news. I rarely watch television news nowadays, I get most of my news from BBC radio and some from SubStack. I disengaged from Xitter (think Pinyin re pronunciation) about a year ago, deleted the app six months later and finally deleted my subscription about a month ago - I just couldn't stomach my complicity in Musk's success with the implied approval by continuing to contribute to the numbers. I've long admired your integrity and the seriousness with which you approach your job, asking difficult questions and not letting yourself be fobbed off, doggedly pursuing your interviewee (I was going to say prey, then thought no, that's not fair, target maybe, but you're never nasty or vicious, just determined), holding politicians to account and your tough and uncompromising approach. Combined with your obvious intelligence, knowledge and preparation, I think you're one of the most formidable journalists out there. I completely agreed with your take on the issues you discussed, both on Gregg Wallace and Joe Biden's pardoning of his son. I'd like to thank you for all that and to let you know that your work is very much appreciated and respected and I hope to see more of you and John. And apologies to you John for not mentioning you before now. I'm afraid I'm not as familiar with your work, but your contribution to the discussion was equally valued. I happen to have agreed more with Emily but it wouldn't be a discussion if you were both saying the same thing, so my thanks to you too.
I used to know Gregg Wallace. I can completely believe the allegations, whilst I like some inappropriate humour, he whilst never personally was anything but pleasant to me, he went bust owing the company I worked for hundreds of thousands of pounds. All the women that worked for him hated him and I once saw a punch up between two women he was sleeping with at the same time. This was about twenty years ago.
He just sounds really annoying and innapropriate rather than predatory. But then the BBC won't do anything about changing this kind of behaviour unless the pressure is on
And this is clearly coming from two people who initially supported Hugh Edwards who was having an affair with a very young man whose parents were extremely worried about him
I work with some who sound the same as Greg and he'll well do his ludest jokes in front of customers, and no matter how many time we say not in front of customers, it just doesn't sink in. He's not malcious with it so he's only had a few complaints but the endless torrent of jokes is absoutely effing exhausting. I have snapped at him and begged him to stop a number of times and he cut it down with me, but the rest of the staff just got more of it form him!!
Not sure what this bloke has done ir not done. If he's not broken the law I'm not that interested. Simply a media bubble issue. South korea in crisis, war in europe, france facing political collapse, Germany strugglung and we've got starmer and this is what were talking about......
"...men think here we go again..." All men. No, a lot of men think he was weird and a bit creepy. Strange to see Emily blame all men. She is usually so unbiased and level headed on this stuff.........
If you are absolutely not like all these men, that`s great. Did you speak out, when you witnessed behavior like that from other men? Do you go to HR when you see other men behaving like Greg? Because that´s what it would take to not be like him: You standing up against men who behave like that at every opportunity.
I used to think “not all men”, but 60 years on the planet has taught me that it kind of is! Not all men behave like this, but of the ones who don’t very very few will actually speak out when they witness such behaviour. And in not speaking out they are complicit. I can count on one hand the number of men I know who actually would speak out, and that’s from the hundreds of men I’ve known, worked with, and/or had friendships with. It’s very disappointing.
I have to say that he is being hounded beyond belief . He did bury himself with his own shovel though. Far too much attention is being directed at him when there are far more important matters domestically and internationally to discuss. Useful red herring
Great debate! Thank you. Now I understand why John Terode looked so on edge despite his abilities and experience. Why is it thought acceptable for Wallace to be absent/not included in one Master Chef The Professionals broadcast episode a week? So bizarre! Why is the inclusion of two experienced chef-presenters not sufficient? Dig deeper. Please.
Sadly for Melanie Sykes, it is likely nothing will be done to punish Greg and he'll probably get another job soon enough and be able to move on whereas she is being demonised for speaking out as if she is the one with a nasty vendetta against Greg 🤦🏼. The trial by social media is also to blame for a lot of the woeful negative reactions towards the women speaking out.
What is a man? Or is it, how should a man behave? Where does decent, moralistic human behaviour, deviate within the sexes? (and all things in between) Do builders behave differently to office workers? IN and OUT of the work environment? What are the common denominators for male behaviour? Which of those are acceptable or unacceptable in ALL situations? IMO all the above differs, and is governed by the emotional intelligence someone has - the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
It is obvious that he's taking the line of "It was just banter ... I'm not that person anymore ... I've learned my lesson ... this is just 'woke' BBC' ... I'm being cancelled ... yes, I'll take a contract with GB News!"
Do me a favour Kirsty Wark has plenty of power herself to have called this out in the moment or immediately afterwards and has waited 12 years to say something. Pathetic
Why is it always assumed that women don't speak out and submit a complaint to the revelevant people at the time? Do you really believe one woman is likely to be listened to against a money making celebrity?
Gregg Wallace's career from 'veg salesman' to prominent advisor on a leading cookery show, where he has immense 'power' over contestants and at times qualified/highly experienced cooks, is akin to a hospital theatre porter being elevated in status to appoint where he 'directs/informs' a range of surgeons from a variety of specialisms, on how they should undertake skilled procedures. Oh, so as not to cause offence to 'theatre porters' the same analogy could be made compairing someone who provides stationery to competent authors feeling inclined to direct them on skills of penmanship. Returning to reference of surgery, one solution to assist Gregg Wallace might be, a reverse 'leucotomy'. This procedure unlike the origional - where areas of the brain might have been subject to "diathermy/laceration/removal" In this case brain is inserted, however, possibly a big problem might stem from where/how to anchor this inside his cavernous head😢.
How does he get a fair hearing? This is all over the media, so many making statements in public. Guilty or innocent with all this detail being publicly broadcast, how can anyone make a clear unpredgerdiced decision?????
Emily is right about Trump and the law. I think they’re going to. We’re going to see at the end of the first term of Trump that he or whoever is in charge of the GOP will continue, meaning Trump or Vance will not leave. it’s not a conspiracy it’s probably gonna be an actuality and that’s terrifying.
When some behaviour feels wrong, that means it's repulsive, you wouldn't allow that in your family and friends circle. No means No. In work places keep your distance .
I have not watched some of the programmes he's presented because he was presenting them - programmes, including MC, that I was actually interested in but I just couldn't stand to see or listen to him. A wrong 'un in many ways.
A spectacular lack of taste and decorum can’t be remedied - the die is cast in most of us by the time we’ve grown into adulthood so the hirers of such people should perhaps be questioning their motives.
Saying “I’m sorry you’re offended” isn’t apologising. It puts the emphasis on the reaction, rather than being accountable.
It was more of a PR exercise than an apology

Add to that the disruption in supply chains, exacerbated by his tariffs and the changes could be devastating, cataclysmic and global. Of course I want to see the post masters get justice, but if things get as bad as I fear they might, Trump's deranged and evil behaviour could make the whole thing moot.
Kay Burley is a great example of someone not getting cancelled
Does Huw Edwards allegedly sexually harassing young male staff count as “inappropriate behaviour”?
Of course.
Yes of course it is an abuse of power
Not if you're Welsh, No😂
😂
A bit of a sweeping statement, Emily. Judging by my experience on social media there are plenty of women sticking up for Wallace and plenty of men think Wallace has only himself to blame.
Typical Emily..shes vile
And you've verified they're all women, of course😂😂
Why is it still the main news after a whole week ?
Greg decided to keep it going with his insults and non apology
@janwynne-woodhouse5144 * Gregg
The media would rather report on this than Israel flaunting a ceasefire with Lebanon and murdering civilians.
It raises issues that people feel strongly about...and media platforms benefit from keeping it alive.
Emily makes valid points. Having done research into bullying and harassment the reactions on x seen on Sunday and Monday were typical of someone who has been called out - Victim Blaming, Gaslighting and DARVO.
Emily is entirely correct about the dog whistle
possibly, but then proceeds to do it herself, men are saying they're victims, saying women are harridans. Literally nobody is saying this, just the voices in her head.
This is a text book case of narcissistic personality disorder sadly. Non apologies and gaslighting are their tools and are on full display here
When you are in a hole, stop digging...
Yes! 🙄
I was sexually harassed/assaulted out of three jobs by the time I was 27 so went freelance. Still facing inappropriate comments but at least I'm not in an office so won't be pulled onto a sixty-year-old man's lap or have my hair stroked while I'm standing at the photocopier.
Quite simple guys....BAD MANNERS.
The irony of these 2 opining on Wallace having made massive excuses for a paedo is striking
Bingo - pair of liberal idiots
Bravo!
You look at the evil in the world and this is what's making headlines the world is insane
I think zero tolerance really just means that you try to be a decent human being by not making people feel uncomfortable.
Hi Emily, I'm a man of a certain age (68) and I have no sympathy for Wallace whatsoever.
Go away!
Do you have sympathy for Kirsty making excuses for Huw Edwards? You might want to consider more carefully whose blessing you pray for.
@@DominicBerry-d5h ?
A great example of “The pile on”
...& deservedly so. 🙄
So glad you brought up Clarkson.
Jon Sopel is the same guy that was defending Huw Edwards initially...what a tosspot.
To be fair they were colleagues for decades
He didn’t know that about him
Exactly. How can someone with such bad judgement sit there and criticise anyone.
They both did
Exactly...The BBC r-soles.
Hunter’s pardon covers the period of his business interests in Ukraine that may implicate his father.
He pardoned Hunter before drumpf took office.
@@starmersbarber why bring right wing into it ?
@@starmersbarberWhat did he represent on his first day that caused you to despise him?
Wallace behaviour is inexcusable he needs to learn from his actions without being criticised
Jon sopel defended huw edwards 😂
Never getting cancelled? What about Schofield , Fox, Wootton, Calvin Robinson?
Love watching the middle class outrage.
Re Biden ; thank you Emily you are clearly correct ❤
As a fully grown adult man I am sick of this stuff coming out and don’t understand how guys are still getting away with it for so long. If this was my workplace I’d be out after day one.
These women are not victims are they? There’s been no crime committed? Feeling uncomfortable is not something that should mean you’re in trouble. This whole thing isn’t a serious story at all.
i felt uncomfortable after being beaten up by skinhead gang in the 80's
Ah, so everything that falls short of being a crime is just fine then? Do you aspire to behave like Wallace?
“Men think…” really?
What ever happened to gentle men...
feminism killed him off
He just sounds really annoying and innapropriate rather than predatory. But then the BBC won't do anything about changing this kind of behaviour unless the pressure is on
The presenter has no right to make this a man vs woman debate. She's completely wrong to do this.
And this is clearly coming from two people who initially supported Hugh Edwards who was having an affair with a very young man whose parents were extremely worried about him
And you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Mixing up two different cases.
Some ladies don't want uninvited men or women at the workplace .
Re Hunter, nice he can protect his son, what about everyone else?
To me Greg Wallace's alleged behaviour sounds , at the very least , unprofessional. Does that not mean anything in show business?
Where’s John Torode’s voice in all of this? I feel he is complicit.
Complicit.
Today’s paper says that John had also spoken to the producers but not raised a formal complaint.
"...men think here we go again..." All men. No, a lot of men think he was weird and a bit creepy. Strange to see Emily blame all men. She is usually so unbiased and level headed on this stuff.........
Hi Gregg, is that you 👋😂
If you are absolutely not like all these men, that`s great. Did you speak out, when you witnessed behavior like that from other men? Do you go to HR when you see other men behaving like Greg? Because that´s what it would take to not be like him: You standing up against men who behave like that at every opportunity.
Mad Maitlis unbiased 😂😂
Biden is a nuclear hypocrite - Trump can simply look for something 11 years ago or from 2025. Hunter Biden will do something 😂😂
Why is the BBC been draw into this. They don’t make the programme.
No sympathy for him
I have to say that he is being hounded beyond belief . He did bury himself with his own shovel though. Far too much attention is being directed at him when there are far more important matters domestically and internationally to discuss. Useful red herring
Bring back the shop stewards. Mind you, I don't suppose middle class women of a certain age would be up for that.
Greg needs to convert to a born again christian like another celebrity?????
Right on brand.
Huw Edward’s …….not in jail……How?
Perhaps read the trial proceedings.
@@davecooper3238 ,oh yeah I forgot all nonces are let off
Now we’re getting to the bottom of it…
These two idiots defended Huw Edwards
That's not an apology! It's a copout.
He's done for. He'll be lucky if his agent can get him a spot reviewing the newspapers on GB News...
She lost her work back then because she was arrested for beating up her boyfriend
She’s a mess and a hypocrite
I'm surprised Wallace didn't use the "bi-polar" defense, one of his people must have forgot to suggest it 😅.
What is a man?
Or is it, how should a man behave?
Where does decent, moralistic human behaviour, deviate within the sexes? (and all things in between)
Do builders behave differently to office workers? IN and OUT of the work environment?
What are the common denominators for male behaviour? Which of those are acceptable or unacceptable in ALL situations?
IMO all the above differs, and is governed by the emotional intelligence someone has - the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
I have just written several replies but none of them has shown up here! No more interaction.
They were very dull comments so hardly surprising you had no interaction...😴
Won’t someone please stand up for the poor oppressed rich white guys.
Why did you not post and show the first post before his last post
It is obvious that he's taking the line of "It was just banter ... I'm not that person anymore ... I've learned my lesson ... this is just 'woke' BBC' ... I'm being cancelled ... yes, I'll take a contract with GB News!"
Yeah because us men think the way Wallace behaved is fine. Ffs.
Quite a lot of us do, apparently. Or at least they claim they do because they think it will upset the right people.
Why is it always the BBC?
It’s not the BBC. The show is made by totally separate production company.
Well I know people who had issue with him when he was doing a show on Channel 5. It's NOT always the BBC. Schofield wasn't on the BBC.

They’ll be coming for David Brent next.
How does he get a fair hearing? This is all over the media, so many making statements in public. Guilty or innocent with all this detail being publicly broadcast, how can anyone make a clear unpredgerdiced decision?????
Unprejudiced.
Emily gives Greg the Coup de Grace in her mind by linking him with President Trump. She is hilarious.
'Vile' is probably the word you are looking for.
Greg, if you're too stressed to be reasonable, stop talking
I have not watched some of the programmes he's presented because he was presenting them - programmes, including MC, that I was actually interested in but I just couldn't stand to see or listen to him. A wrong 'un in many ways.
Same here!
funny how you hear from all these people now , seems like a witch hunt , a lot of muck raking going on
A spectacular lack of taste and decorum can’t be remedied - the die is cast in most of us by the time we’ve grown into adulthood so the hirers of such people should perhaps be questioning their motives.
Where's the union to support workers?
