I don't know why that is. I didn't vote for Brexit, but I absolutely understand why people did. I am well-educated and worked in the public sector with a secure, though not very well-paid, job. I therefore did not suffer from the downside of the influx of cheap foreign labour that so severely impacted the ability of working class British people to earn a decent wage. I also live close enough to London to visit occasionally and so I could see how London became almost unrecognisable as it struggled to maintain it's identity as the British capital, with nearly half its population made up of foreign-born people, many of whom did not speak enough English to integrate with British people. Brexit was about low pay and open borders. Many people felt they got no benefit from the EU. They didn't buy holiday homes in France, they didn't have children who went to university in Amsterdam, they didn't learn Italian and go to look at Renaissance art. If people have no money, they rely much more on the community in which they live and the EU open borders policy put many of those communities under strain. You may think that they were wrong, but I can't fault their logic, if I look at what happened to working class Britain in the first 2 decades of this century.
@patdent There are far more immigrants coming to the UK now than before BREXIT ( BTW, the boat people account for only 3% of all immigrants). Instead of coming from eastern Europe, they are from all over the world and they don´t integrate either. It´s a fact that owing to restrictions to our biggest trading market, the EU, each and every household is worse off as a result of BREXIT. A majority of the electorate now think that BREXIT was a mistake and want to re-join the EU. The lesser educated in our society in particular were well and truly conned.
@patdent The Brexit referendum was called by Cameron to prevent his party being torn apart by the misnamed European Research Group. The anti-immigration aspect was bolstered by Farage. In the event, highly multicultural London voted in favour of remaining in the EU. The Brexit vote in England outside the prosperous areas and in Wales was a vote against Cameron and Osborne’s austerity measures, possibly helped in some areas by Farage’s antics. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain.
@@clarecrawford9677 According to a study by Oxford University (Danny Dorling), the reason for a BREXIT majority in Wales was the fact that many (retired) English people moved over the border because property in Wales was better value.

Try listening beyond the hyperbole. I am no fan of Trump but much of his rhetoric is scaremongering; a tool used to negotiate with. He is not a neocon war hawk, but a nationalist and believes in isolationism, in the sense of disagreeing how U.S. foreign policy has been practiced for the past eight decades and doubtful of the benefits to the United States. He’ll no doubt bully his way around, but maybe it will force nations to have less dependence on the USA for defence and the USA with less dependence on foreign imports. Already global regions are preparing for this. I don’t believe for one minute he’s going to invade Panama, Greenland or Canada. His domestic policies may turn out to be abhorrent but that doesn’t directly impact anyone else (for now)
I appreciate that you recognize the other half of the USA, finall,. But before you blame people who did not vote for Trump for being Trump In office again you should take a hard look at the media.
