- Using the new John Deere 2038R with 270B backhoe to dig a trench for homeowner, Brian. He wants to run water away from his house out to a drainage ditch along the perimeter of his yard. Tractor Time with Tim discusses the differences between the 270B backhoe and the 260 backhoe he had on the John Deere 1025R. This was a nice drainage solution for Brian's water issue.

Tim Christi and Brian this was one of the best jobs I've seen in a long time
God Bless All
PaK
Very clean looking job ! I like how you keep the grass and the soil separate when you dig !
It was a long winter!! Although I enjoyed the videos of the different shows you guys attended, theres nothing like videos of the different projects and all the equipment out have for us to see.
Hey Tim, when scraping soil off of grass I like to stick the FEL in float mode to find the right height then before going forward pull it up just a tad. Seems to work wells for me.
Nice work there! Fun machine to play with.
Keep on tractoring
Love these videos ! Johnny 2 looks beautiful! Keep up the great videos and editing ! Very nice to watch !
Tim, always keeping busy.
Look at them pro skills setting the sod off to one side and the fill to the other. Your Backhoe game is strong my friend.
Nice set up right there, you’re getting nice and smooth as a backhoe operator!
You always helping people that's great Tim 🚜🚜🚜🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice video tim and kristie and a very nice new Johnny, the backhoe works really good, and in all the years you build up a lot of experience 👍
Good job can’t wait to see more of the 2038R it’s a beauty all the staff that I love from the 1025R on a bigger frame
Another Great video, Tim! No rocks sure makes for some nice diggin'! In the Foothills of The Sierra Nevada Mountains here in Northern California...we have lots rocks in the native soil..
Hi Tim,
This type of project is a great reason to save 3-4 sheets of old interior paneling. Make a great way to keep the dirt out of the lawn.
Well just in time Tim!! I traded my 1025R in on a 2019 2032R.. now I can watch & learn more!! Keep up the great work!!! And yes the hydraulics are much more responsive & touchy than the 1025R.
Great job enjoyed that, beautiful grass the same color as Johnny!!!!
Good job Tim ! Getting paid for having fun . When I first got my backhoe I felt like a kid in a sand box
Great video which I expected it would be that tractor is smooth yet plenty of power for many things. Hope you all had a wonderful Easter, looking forward more videos keep up the good work :)
Good job on the dig Tim! I like the new tractor.
Awesome You let the little guy check it out at the end! Start em young!
The 2038r is a nice tractor! Good video Tim!
The more I see a backhoe attachment, the more I’d like to have one. Good video, as usual!
I think we as subscribers are going to always recommend a bigger tractor, but im really excited to see yall on a bigger tractor, it never hurts to have too much power.
How's she goin'? Nice job and another satisfied customer I'd say!!! Take 'er easy!!!
I have the same problem with my 3046r. I was shocked when I first got it the I couldn't see the bucket, I was using a New Holland from a neighbor and you can see the bucket on that one. It took a little getting used to.
Putting plywood down next to your dig location makes clean up alot easier
or a tarp
@@georgesimpson3113 Yea, I use a tarp, then when you get down to it you can just lift it and dump the crumbs and you're good!
Plywood is $40 a sheet. This cost would put Tim out of business.
For the first time operating that particular backhoe you sure are Mr. Smooth! :-)
Hi guys, another job well done.
this is exactly what i needed to see, thinking about getting a backhoe
Thanks!
Did you get one already
Like the job you done Tim Practice with it .
Tim, it's nice to see you and Kristi work so well together. Hope to see your next video soon...
3 episodes per week!
Great Job Tim 🚜🚜🚜
As always great job 👍
Very good video. I enjoyed watching you use the backhoe. I am a new subscriber and have started watching your older videos. I am starting to turn green. John Deer has some great equipment.
Thanks for watching, Bryan! Some of the older ones are the best!
Tim, next drive over the sod the same way you did to pack down the back fill. You'll be surprised how well you can mold it back into place. Also if you dump the bucket as far as it will go past vertical \ o O you can almost sweep the grass with less chance of digging in, almost like a dozer. I bring the loader down close and then use the curl and dump function to fine tune where I want the edge. Just be careful it's easy to tear up the sod. Just some tips that work for me. Nice video, pleasure to watch.
Love the machine!
Good work Tim it sounds like you like your bigger tractor that's great .It sounds like engine don't work as yard as little johnny does
Looks like the 2 series was a good fit for the job it's too bad you didn't have the 4 in one bucket. Great video 👍.
That is some dream dirt for the backhoe!
Tim, I ordered my backhoe for my kubota L3200 last august and it still hasn’t come in I’m so excited yet frustrated at the same time. I have operated it in my sleeping probably 100 hours lol. Thanks for you backhoe videos. Lord bless you brother
Sorry to hear about the delay. Seems Kubota has been hit harder than some of the other manufacturers.
@@TractorTimewithTim it will work out
Tim it sounds like you like your bigger tractor. Look like the backhoe is nice and smooth, with the good hydraulic flow of the 2038R, it digs effortlessly at lower RPMs.
Tim, you need to rig up a hand-forward-reverse pedal linkage from the backhoe seat. How cool would that be
Nice job tim
Great Video. It would have been interesting if you were able to use the 4 in 1 bucket, as with it open you could push the dirt back in the hole more cleanly without disturbing the grass on the side of the trench. This is because you have better control of the angle of attack of the cutting edge than you do with a bucket.
I would like to add that if you have a regen system on your tractor, it is usually best to run the engine rpm typically above 1,800 rpm. If really helps keep suit from building up in your regen canister. just an FYI for some that are new to diesel tractors with regen cycles.
Great video
Please do the Loader Lift capacity Test with this other tractor.
That is one nice machine!
Hi Tim. My wife has gotten interested in using my 1025r and so we had a lesson yesterday! How about you doing a video that we could show our wives or other family members on the basics for getting started in using the tractor, loader, and maybe mower? Thanks!
Nice video angle At 6:25 it looked liked the dirt was coming right me lol
Love the vid
I didn't have to ask why you chose Johnny 2 rather than Casey. Any long time viewer would know that you were just looking for a reason to try the new tractor out on a job.
Spring is here!! Time for a visit or two to the Family Farm!! Can't wait to watch spring planting!!
good job
nice Tim
Great video Tim can that tractor handle a 5' sickle bar mower to backlash a field?? Thanks
All the free advice you get and nobody complained about the clean grease zerks. Lol
Hi Tim, I see rubber bumpers to cushion the side to side swing of the 270B. I don't have those, I am not sure why every backhoe would not have them. Also the bucket bangs abruptly when I tilt it full up. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Just found your channel this week and love it! I am a new subscriber and found the video you guys posted about a year ago when you demo'ed the Kioti tractors.
I have a Kioti CK3510SE with the cab, loader and backhoe. I bought it in 2017, have about 120 hours on it just using it on projects around a new home we moved into that same year. I love the tractor and, I have the standard Industrial tires, and am pretty happy with them, but they do still tear up grass a little when it is wet, etc. I am really interested in your opinion on the industrial turf tires on the new tractor. Thanks for all the great videos!
Welcome! Thanks for joining us! Over 400 episodes for you to ‘catch up on’!
We were impressed by the Kioti!
Wow that's good diggin
Tip to put large PVC pipe together, I lay pipe in trench and use regular shove to push pipe together. Push about have the shovel in soil then push on pipe. Also use liquid soap a lubricant on pipe (i.e. dish soap works grate).
The end of the pipe should have 1/2” galvanized screen to keep small animals out of the pipe, take one of the plastic union peaces and cut to fit in one end then slip the other on the pipe. If you want you can use silicon to keep the screen in.
Hey Tim. Can you do a lift capacity test on the loader?
Good to see you all outside working again. I'd love to have that nice soil at our house. We're mostly clay. That backhoe sounds like it's hardly even trying. Does that backhoe have a quick attachment similar to the 1025r ?
Yes, attaches differently, but just as easy.
I had a kubota bx26 or something like that and it was useless with the front loader in my northern Illinois clay. The backhoe wasn’t bad.
that is clay he is digging
I am a very expierenced backhoe operator on large scale backhoes but even with my 2032R you can move your tractor with the backhoe and not need to leave the seat of your tractor Tim. Lift your stabilizers and your bucket and push yourself forwards with the backhoe arm making sure you leave the teeth in the ground. Re position your stabilizers and bucket and U never need to leave your operator station! :) try it out!
We have a 4330r with a loader and lots of 3pt attachments
Church out of town do y'all got y'all a bushel for that new tractor and a front end loader drive over mower deck and a backhoe and a loader.
I have a 2038r and I absolutely love it and don't regret my decision a bit.
I'm highly considering 2038r for my small digging business just saw your comment, I think I should buy it. How much did they want for yours? So far your experience is good correct? Please respond within the next 24 to 48 hours. Gracefully yours, James.
@@railfanjames7699 My experience has been excellent. I have used mine for around 80 hours in the first years, mostly mowing, then used it with a box blade and a rake. I also use the front loader to carry a bunch of heavy things around like trees, mulch, top soil, material, etc. I do not have a backhoe so if that is your main use of the tractor, I can't help there. As far as pricing, I do not have this with me at the moment, but for the 2038r, 60d mowing deck, 220r loader and the john deere quick hitch, it was roughly mid 20k if I recall correctly.
It also has the super bright LED lights.
2038 would be my dream tractor. The e throttle is awesome. Thanks for showing us this machine. Tim, you need to practice moving the tractor by using the backhoe. Then show us😳
I have shown this in other episodes.
Great video! They just keep getting better and better.
Question about the 2038R: Is the backhoe operators platform more crowded than your original Johnny where you turned the seat around? It looked a little cramped in the video, especially for anyone who might be on the taller side. Also, why does the backhoe seat slope forward? Is that a setting? It looks like an uncomfortable position for digging.
I never noticed any discomfort. Didn’t really evaluate the size of the platform. I should take the time to do a more thorough evaluation.
I am falling in love with Johnny 2, although I'd have no use of if. I own a 5M and I love it! How's the comfort when operating the backhoe? I imagined you would bounce around in that seat but you seemed pretty comfy.
Backhoe seat: Not much bouncing since we don’t move. It leans a bit more forward than I might like, but not a problem.
I think the 2038r is an amazing machine.
Nice job guys you should do a tour of Johnny and Casey
Nice smooth Backhoe operation, Tim. Enjoyed the new John Deere 2038R in action. Enjoy your week.
I have the very same backhoe on my 2032R and have had the curl cylinder on the bucket bend the ram twice now. My JD dealer has replaced it once and today was the first time I had tried to use the backhoe since they last did the replacement. I am waiting for a call to schedule a pick up of the tractor right now. I was trying to dig up a small tree both times. I feel that the cylinders rams are not being hardened enough because that should not be happening. The first time it happened, it bent so hard that it put a big dent in the arm that is right above the bucket. Other than that problem, I have not had any adverse problems with this machine.
Have seen this reported multiple times. I agree that it should not be bending so easily.
NICE !
Im not sure you can let me know, but the backhoe looks like the one on the first tractor because it looks very small compared to the new tractor, it might be the one that was on the first tractor which it looked more paportional to that tractor, little small for this one but still works, do they make a bigger one for that size tractor
some sort of VR glasses would really come in handy. it would need a lens directly behind the screen so one could see exactly the same as without the glasses. but then one or two additional camera-streams could be added as picture-in-picture.
I’d like to see your smaller tractor dig rocks. Like the 1025 Deere. I’m wanting one but we have rocks where I live not dirt...
Hi Tim and Christy it did the job but it could be a bit of a pain getting on and off to move the tractor if you were working alone but it does what a good job when your going to cut a trench would you not use your sod cutter to remove the sod
there is no need to get on an off, the boom is for more then digging,, you push your self forward, left or right, it is so funny when you see a tow truck come to pull a tractor out that has a backhoe,, ppl just have no clue
Just a little tip you probably know but some might not. When dirt is sticking in the bucket, curl it in more and lead more with the teeth instead of pushing dirt into the whole face of the bucket, that kinda turns it into a sandcastle mold lol.
So Tim we talked about my 1023 e loader backhoe I got five months ago I am getting this one now I’m waiting on it. I have a question about the backhoe connection have you had issues with it being three point mount and not sub frame mounted
It is subframe mount.
If you leave the front bucket just of the ground lift the stabilisers and use the arm to push you forward hope it helps saves getting on and off
I was going to say the same, except add to leave it in neutral.
@@court2379 well you cant leave it in gear well digging.. would be a good seen
arm.. lol
@@arnoldromppai5395 its a hydro, wouldn't matter if it was "in gear" anyway, it wouldn't move
@@airsoftsnipes100 no it wouldnt i am a speking in general. not everyone one has or will be on a hydro.. they will not be on this one..
Ever thought about a landscape /ditch bucket for the boom. Then you just do the reverse of the trench dig.
Yes. Have one. Poor visibility.
The one time I let my dad borrow my 1025r he came up with a genius idea of using a broom handle to press the forward and reverse pedals. Might not be osha approved haha but it beats climbing off every time you have to move forward.
Dads have a way of solving problems, don’t they!
I looked at a 2025, 2032,2038 and a 3 series last week. Don’t remember the model number but I know it didn’t have the quick removal loader and no option for a belly mower. Nice machines. Wondering if I should sell my Mahindra 4010.
That would be the 3e series. Be careful to avoid confusion. The 3e is less capable than the 2032r/2038r.
How are you finding the radial tires on the 2038R on grass? Are they leaving any marks in dry conditions? wet?
Haven’t seen a ‘dry condition’ yet. So muddy here we are tutting up the yard
I’m torn between this and the 3033r 🤷🏻♂️ lol
I’ll be in the woods most of the time. Lots of grapple work.
This tractor is much more refined. 3033r will be more powerful.
I love tractors
Hey Tim, is it possible to get a backO for a 3 point? And do you like the new backO by Case with the new seat position so you can see the front and back
He's using a 3 point backho for this video. This backho can be taken off any time.
The 270B backhoe is nice and smooth, with the good hydraulic flow of the 2038R, it digs effortlessly at lower RPMs.
and tearing up components on the poor tractor at the same time
You move it will the backhoe lift your front bucket push will your backhoe lift the legs up
I like those new turf tires. How deep does the 260B backhoe dig.
270B. I’m not sure. I suspect around 7’
What size buckets do you have and what sizes do you find most useful? I'm hesitant to buy additional buckets due to cost and not knowing if they'd help productivity enough. Currently have only a 12" on a slightly larger BH than you have here.
I have 8”, 12”, and 16”. This is the first time I’ve ever used a 12”. I love the 16” for digging holes.
I like the 8” for trenches, except when muddy, it plugs too easily
Wonder if something like a spray can of light oil for the kitchen would be good. It works on my yard trimmers and saws that touch growing stuff - doesn't kill it like other lubes would. Not much sand with that is there. Heavy clay. Sandy loam about 100-200 feet thick here. Great grass and Pine Tree land. Long time flood plane for millions of years.
Martin Eastburn
He has to paint the bucket with a graph base paint the soil will not stick
Does anyone know if this machine has enough power where you can use your Boone to move yourself backwards ? Buddy gots a small Kabota and it can’t so I’m looking at these now lol
Yes, it does. We show it in many episodes
I have a 2018 2032r. I find that the particulate filter gets dirty fast at low RPM.
How much do these cost?
to keep the dirt from sticking inside the bucket mount a chain inside of it on a angle
i push myself with the bachoe,,,works good ,,, with my kubota b3030 in nuetral and b75a backhoe
Love the video so do u charge for the jobs you do and how do u go about price the job
We don’t discuss pricing on this channel. Sorry.
I had a foundation drain that didn't hold water but still attracted tree roots. Got clogged several times. Of course it was a lot closer to trees than what you have there.
Perforated black tile?
@@TractorTimewithTim Nope, no holes thin wall pipe that went from the drain around the foundation to open air. Roots found the bell to straight pipe connections. Let's just say the professional that installed it didn't do his job well. After getting clogged 3 times in 10 years and calling RotoRooter each time, I had it replaced by a guy who knew what he was doing. Used heavier pipe and glued the ends.
whats wrong with moving the tractor forward with the bucket.
Easy way to move forward. .is to raise the loader a couple of inches. .raise the out riggers just off the ground and push forward with the digging bucket...I have done this all day..... Nice size tractor
As have I. It was messing up the clean trench, so I just had Christy move it.
That is a nice tractor. Too bad JD can't put that hydro pump on the 1 series
Johnny 2?? I like "Big J"........lol, I suppose that is what I'll have to name mine if I ever upgrade!
