    You guys were spot on at locating the problem. You had the right equipment and repaired the problem in short order. Most importantly you knew were the gas line was located. I'm sure the home owner was pleased.

    I always put my sod to one side the dirt to the other side. That way you can put the dirt back first then the sod last. When your done no need to redo the grass. Saves time.

      Ive always hand cut the sod out with a shovel so it fits back in like puzzle pieces. But this is a customer job so he will probally charge to re seed

    • @DavidFDay
      @DavidFDay  4 роки тому

      You are correct, when locating a pipe under ground it’s always a delicate thing not to ripe it out of the ground!! Plus the markings for the gas pipe could be off. You never know what’s in the ground, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I’m always impressed by the power of this little machine. Thanks for commenting.

  • @margaretlang1813
    @margaretlang1813 6 років тому +4

    There is a gas line in close proximity to your dig. Also, sewage [methane and hydrogen sulfide] is flammable and highly explosive. Apparently, you are very near it. The man helping locate the sewage line line is down very close to its location with a lit cigarette in his hand. BOOM BOOM! Between the bucket, the gases and the cigarette he could have lost his head. Glad he didn't.

    • @chrishefley139
      @chrishefley139 6 років тому +1

      That’s not how it works. You have to have the right mixture of fuel and oxygen to have an explosion.

    • @Will-tm5bj
      @Will-tm5bj 5 років тому

      A lit cigarette also will not ignite a fire. If he were to light it next to an open gas line then sure

    Nice work good digging .The only thing that i would add is for saftey sake Your helper should not be that close tothe machine while you are digging because if you made a wrong move and it doesn't matter how good you are we all do it sometimes you could kill or injure him but other than that you did a great job.

      Thirty years a plumber, and I could make the case for iron pipe and rubber gaskets as well. PVC is "good enough" considering most residential structures and commercial are not built with much more than a 30-50 year (if that) life expectancy, and Sched 40 PVC will do that, even in some pretty aggressive soils. Cast iron in very good circumstances can last 150-200 years- in poor circumstances 85-11. It's something to think about when you build your forever home mansion. Yes, I know it cost a bit more, but the labor is really the same hours and the same finishing problems, so it really only works out to 15% for the consumer. If you are doing your own, about 30-35% higher material costs.

    David, This machine looks like you can only do so many movements at a time with the controls. I’m sure you have used mini excavators before, how well do you feel this machine operates vs a mini excavator about the same size?

    • @davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956
      @davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 6 років тому

      chris hefley yes it’s small and only has one pump so your limited on how fast it will move or how many operations you can do at once. I could have went up a size and got double pumps but I dont need a large machine. I only work on my rental property so I just don’t need s large machine plus some of the back yards I have are very small and I like the versatility of a tractor for me. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day.

      Yeah that’s what it looked like, can’t do too many control movements at once. There’s one coming up in an auction I may bid on. I’m not going to bid high but you never know

      It's also about a third of the price of an equally sized mini excavator.

    curl the bucket to dig, it has more digging power than dragging from the arm.

    • @DavidFDay
      @DavidFDay  6 років тому +4

      Shane Forsythe yes it does have more power when you curl the bucket but when I’m trying to find a line I like having the teeth straight down where they will slide along the pip to find it instead of curling the bucket and risk picking the pip up or any other line that might be there. That’s why I’m not curling the bucket. Also there could be an electric line in the ground someone has laid your more apt to find it dragging than ripe it out of the ground. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day

      Curl the bucket? We drag the bucket to dig in layers. Digging in Layers saves underground utilities or anything else you can’t see or that’s un marked. Real operators know that...
