When Filipinos invite you to eat even if they don’t have much to offer, we mean it wholeheartedly & we DO NOT anticipate that you say no. Contrary to what he said, it is actually rude or impolite to say no. You have to have at least a little taste or if we are offering a drink, to have a sip of it.
He's actually right. I see it all the time when people offer me food when they see me when they barely had enough for theirselves. It is impolite for them to not offer but it is also impolite if I take it.
When you attend a Filipino party, you can eat your fill and when you are about to leave, you are asked to take a plate of food with you for your family or for you to eat later. When we had our first party after moving back to the US, our American guests were amazed at the quantity and quality of food and when I prepared food for them to take home when the party was winding down.

Well it depends. You have to sense the air. Sometimes people just say it when they are eating and they offer you food as courtesy. It is a bit of a faux fa to eat by yourself while the other one is just watching. And then there are those who really offer you food. But you will know which one is just for courtesy or sincere, because the sincere one will always insist even if you say no thanks.
Chris Urbano has a great business. He imports wine to the Philippines, he also curates them, on which wines go great with local Filipino dishes. God i really wished I could have worked with him. Too bad I didn't have the qualifications.
When Filipinos prepare food for occasions, they mean it when they offer the food! Why prepare food that they don't want people to eat? Also, Pinoys LOVE it when foreigners eat what they offer. Maybe when the visit is sudden and there's no occasion, that's a different story. It's not them wishing you won't accept the offer. Rather, it's them feeling embarrassed that they don't have much to offer.

George always mentions about how he loves or misses Leche Flan. Well, Braso de Mercedes dessert is another one that goes pretty much on the same level as Leche Flan as Filipinos all time favorite dessert so if you guys haven’t tried that, i suggest you do. Traditionally, it is shaped like a big roll or a log but now you see it layered.
Champorado with dried fish is for older people.. kids like them sweet... The dried fish is for when the sweetness gets too much for you, if you bite on the dried fish a bit, it stops the feeling of having too much sweet...you can then continue eating champorado.
Many does not know the history of "boodle fight".It started in the military when Filipino soldiers during the World War has limited food so what they do is they combine some of the supply they have and eat all together, sharing it to each and everyone for them to survive each day during the war.It strengthened their camaraderie and brotherhood.

The way we have fun are the flavor making the food taste extremely good. 😂 😂 Also in sawsawan. In the Philippines that's not a disrespect to our cooks cuz, we have different taste buds thats why they also offer sauce for better taste to our liking.

i usually drink a glass of chilli vinegar sauce (not a sawsawan in this case but to add taste) for my balut (never eaten embryo of balut my entire life. it's weird for me seeing my brother in-law eating champorado with dried fish, never tried it my entire life. but i eat champorado with SUNSHINE snacks (its a green peas coated with seasoned floured) poured in it. and i loved it much.
Filipinos love it when you accept the food offer- if they have food on the table or if you found them eating. But, if they don't have much it's good to say I'll have a taste of it - like a spoonful of it. It's not true that they expect you to say no. But, it's always good to know for yourself if accepting it is the best thing to do or not in theat situation and be honest as well. If you see that they don't have enough for themselves when they offer you their food and If you don't feel like eating you can always say no. Overall, Filipinos like you to have some if they offer...and yes Filipinos always offer whether they have much or little. It seems like it's in the DNA. Also, it seems like a sin(greediness) not to offer (for Filipinos). But in the scripture, God expects us to help each other and be generous. It's a Biblical principle. It also goes with the last piece of food. They don't want to be the last one to take the last piece of food as it would seem being greedy or not being polite - as if like you want the last piece all for yourself. But then again one should just be honest and break the culutre. If they still feel they need the last piece then they can always take it. They won't take it against you. Using hand seems like it makes the food taste better. Psychologically and physically it makes sense. There is harmony of your senses. Touching your food with your own hand and into your mouth create a perfect sense of hamony. It's like grounding - when you touch the ground with your bare feet, you get the energy from the earth - harmony with nature. So, it's all about harmony and unity with each other (e.g. the boodle fight - or eating wiht each other on one big plate or leaf with hands).
Great reaction, one thing I believe was missed and baffles people, at least here in the U.S. is sharing a plate. Here when you order you get your dish be it pasta, steak, whatever. My family and fellow pinoys will literally offer parts of our dish with each other if its not a family style setting and its an individual plate kind of restaurant. I've also noticed this is done more often among Pinoys rather than Americans. I remember going out more than a few times and inviting our American or even Mexican friends and they get a little weirded out when we offer a piece of our "lunch special" or sandwich or whatever it is just so they can taste it. Another thing regarding "weird food combinations", is that we are very experimental with our food, and it does freak mostly non Asians out when we do eat fish with eggs or combine milk with a fruit or coffee with some other beverage. I'm very thankful for this quirk in my culture as its led me to discover flavor profiles I might never have tried as it may sound weird. Ever try a papaya pineapple shake, juice, or boba? Probably my favorite fruit combinatios, but most people go wtf? Not so much with Pinoys though lol.
Im a Filipino - (hard core) but i havent tried champurrado with tuyo, I love both but not as combination. I love my tuyo with slice tomatoes, vinegar and onions, partner it with fried rice with many garlic :) and I love my champurrado with powdered milk (birchtree powder milk) :)
Hi, just to correct the reference video. Boodle fight, though branded (and popularized relatively recently) in a military way, the culture did not originate with the army. Eating fiesta style on banana leaves is a long standing tradition originally associated with kamayan. The tradition predates the coming of the americans.
Another quirky habits we do is eating pancit bihon or canton with rice, both carbo but this usually are part of the foods we order once in a restaurant...
He's American who speaks very good Tagalog :) Asians have that culture anyway. He is wrong about economic status though. If it's finger food, naturally fingers are used. I love using my fingers while eating chips and soak it in vinegar, each time I put a chip stick in my mouth. Filipino households with "dirty" kitchens enjoy eating with hands, but NOT all the time. It's a matter of choice and depends on the food
Lucy is so charming upon insisting that she's a Filipino by heart .. kudos

So, it's all about harmony and unity with each other (e.g. the boodle fight - or eating wiht each other on one big plate or leaf with hands).
well said.
I really like your reaction videos, but when you react or comment, could you please pause the video and start it again when your comment is done.
Champorado is always paired of with salted dried fish or fried smoked fish(Tinapa). I like it with tinapa.
Im a Filipino - (hard core) but i havent tried champurrado with tuyo, I love both but not as combination.
I love my tuyo with slice tomatoes, vinegar and onions, partner it with fried rice with many garlic :)
and I love my champurrado with powdered milk (birchtree powder milk) :)
Lucy looking so gorgeous in white :) and yes you guys are Filipinos now ❤️
Lucy is GORGEOUS 🌹
