When I was a teen (1988), I went to a TX CoG Youth convention church camp and somehow talked a few friends into building a small rock dam across the whole Frio instead of eating breakfast. We got “in trouble”. Totally worth it for a few hours on that beautiful river doing stupid kid shit. We didn’t get in trouble for the dam. It was because we missed breakfast and no one knew where we were. I always had a habit of going adventuring when I wasn’t supposed to. Still do.
You need to move out of DFW and move to Bulverde, TX! You would love it there. Lived there before moving to Georgia a year and a half ago. Can’t wait till I move back!

I caught a potential Texas State Record Rio Grande Cichlid in the Frio, it weighed 3.2 pounds but I didn't know what I had caught and no service to look it up, I learned a week later with image search and was so sad I didn't know

Jon, love the video! 2 things we need to get straight. 1st: You are nowhere near west Texas. You are in the hill country AKA Central Texas, maybe the start of South Texas. 2nd: You keep calling anything west or south of DFW the "dessert." It does rain less there for sure, but not that much. All these areas average 25-35 inches of rain a year, granted they have been in a two year drought. DFW gets about 35-38". Point being it's not even close to being a desert, defined as less than 10 inches of rain annually.. Go to Odessa or Pecos to see Texas dessert. lol. NSF!
It's actually 235 miles length but he is correct regarding the square miles of volume. According to Wikipedia - Basin size of Frio river- 6,912.86 square miles
