If you honestly think the stuff ruining console games like: politics, microtransactions, over priced games, and broken releases doesn't happen with pc games too, I don't know what reality you live in.
I've lost count of how many Steam games I've wish listed that then release in bad Early Access states and often never get updated/fixed.
The Golden Age of gaming is long gone.

Valve is arguably more greedy than Microsoft and Sony combined and they're doing fine. The problem is not greed, it's incompetence, short-sighted planning, and losing track of your purpose.
Sony and Microsoft exist to accumulate wealth. Providing value to the consumer is secondary, if that. Valve exists to provide value to the consumer first and foremost(taken directly from their employee handbook), and as a result they have never stopped accumulating wealth.
Hard to say with Sony, the fans for playstation are every bit as crazy as cod fans. No matter hard they get screwed or shit on by sony they'll keep on defending it. Playstation has survived for this long and I don't see it dying anytime soon. Xbox i really don't know casue I don't know how trust worthy the info is on xbox being sold or shutdown.

Nintendo learned, back in the 90s, the HARD WAY, that participating in 'bit wars' (who has the best hardware) is absolutely pointless if your games are crap, and learned in the 2000s, with the Wii, that a weak hardware console can DOMINATE as long as the games are fun.
They have lived by that philosophy ever since, putting power on the back burner and focusing ABSOLUTELY on game polish and quality and making the most of the hardware they are using.
And guess who basically WON the console wars as a result?

I love how Nintendo and Steam have both essentially won in the eyes of most gamers by just not fucking up constantly. They both have their problems, but dear lord they aren’t as bad as Sony and Microsoft.
Yeah Nintendo unfortunately does go pretty censor heavy on some of their games, especially Fire Emblem. That being said, at least they don't police what others put out on their console, and for that, I respect them.

I've stopped my love for consoles, when it took 2 years for a ps5 to be available. By that time, I adapted and fell back in love with my Retro games, which is more fun than what Sony and Microsoft has been doing these days.
I find it funny how this generation of console wars can essentially be summed up as “Nintendo and PC win by doing absolutely nothing”.
They’re the 2 platforms that have games worth playing.

To be fair, Nintendo were VERY good at being idiots for well over a decade.
There's a reason why Nintendo lost market dominance (at least for consoles) by the mid-1990s. They behaved like idiots towards third-party developers and torqued gamers off with the ridiculous censorship on games like the home port of the original Mortal Kombat! Also, there were entire genres of games they surrendered to other consoles. The Big N practically gave away sports games sales to Sega on the Genesis console. Sports gamers with sense didn't buy SNES; the Genesis was a better console for that type of game and didn't slow down like the SNES did when "too many things" came on screen. Not every game had a better port on the SNES!
Nintendo surrendered the home console market to Sony for at least a decade.
If Nintendo didn't dominate as much as they did in portable console sales, they'd have been dead regardless of their cash reserves. The GameCube was a good system but it just wasn't as cool as the PS2 to many people.
Nintendo has only regained console dominance with the Switch. They were handed this victory, too. I still expect them to act like Disney has these 15 years and to lose again. Nintendo can't help itself -- it's the most patronizing video game company out there and they think their customers are still elementary school students. Those are the main reasons many people moved on from Nintendo in the 1990s!

Two companies that put of a fight against Nintendo in the 2000's now becoming Casualties in the Console Wars, all because they made corporate decisions instead of decisions over passion. Never would've guessed that.
Decisions over passion might not have helped, but listening to your broader customer base is what they should have done.
Taking a backseat in the race for console supremacy in the mid 2000's may have been the greatest thing Nintendo has done. They played the long game in just letting the two bigger brands of Sony and Microsoft burn out in the console market eventually.

A no brainer business decision would have been to take your studios, give them a 20,000,000$ budget and have them make new IP, thrn the ones that become popular you mae sequels from.
Even the ones that aren't successful should make their money back and you get to essentially make an IP farm.

Old Luigi meme aside, Japanese companies don't have the same "grow or die" mentality that western businesses have. In Japan, so long as you make money for yourself and your stockholders, everybody's happy. I just got a Nintendo Switch, first time I've had a Nintendo since high school with N64. I was an Xbox guy from age 20-44, Halo 6 ruined it for me. Now I'm going back to being a Nintendo kid.

I think there's still a market for what you might call a "console" but it's not necessary that it be a closed, branded ecosystem anymore. New consoles should essentially be a beefier Steamdeck for the living room, as many people still don't want to deal with hardware upgrades, Windows issues, driver issues, etc. They just need a hybrid PC ecosystem with access to Steam, GOG, etc.
It's funny how when Xbox shuts down studios everyone talks about it, but when Sony does it, everyone turns a blind eye.
They're not losing to old games. They're losing to their own ego. They thought that they were too big to fail, dropped the ball on what could've been smash hits, and now they are paying the price.

The one thing you CAN'T really get on PC anymore - games in physical format.
We, the consumer, lost. I bought a PS5 last summer for their exclusives, as a PC owner. Now all their games are on PC. The only reason why I bother keeping it is because I can play fighting games locally, and that's it. Wouldn't get my money back from selling it off.
Bloodborne is still an exclusive. One they are utterly hesitant to port over.
You can do that to the PC as well though. At least I did with Tekken 7

I like to copyright strike and forcibly shut down every nonprofit fan made project that has even the slightest thing to do with our IPs Nintendo isn't saving anything because they don't need to, the fanboys and girls in the Nintendo community are willing to support every decision that gets made even the bad ones.
All the gaming platforms have the most rabid cult like defenders which makes interacting with any of the communities more trouble than it's worth but Nintendo is by far the worst one.

I was going to say that at least on PC we can probably mod the ads out but these corpo douchebags would probably ban the mods and modders for doing so.
I think the reason why many, including myself, are hesitant to switch over to PC for our games, is because we already built massive libraries on said consoles. I think I have over 750 games on Xbox, over 350 on PlayStation, the thought of, starting over is just too much.. Maybe if Microsoft were like, "Okay, we're just moving everything to PC, and all your Xbox purchases come with you." that would be easier to digest... but I doubt either console would ever do something like that.

speak your truth, even if it makes no sense. then again, i didn't grow up playing zelda. haven't played a super mario since sunshine and fell off of the pokemon games after the original ruby. so i don't have a strong attachment to their exclusives pulling me to it. to me, i just see games i'd like to play on a switch like the binding of isaac for over twice as much as i paid for it on pc and it puts me off. also their titles never go on sale. super mario odyssey that came out almost 9 years ago is still full price in their store. that's kind of unheard of for games on the pc market.

Even if we all move to pc. The biggest problem is consumers not screaming at shareholders that infinite growth isn't possible. Look at inflation. Me and most I know cut back on wants to focus on needs.
Budgets have inflated, and the content has become worse, so players aren't playing now... they're gonna lose revenue until they go back to creating good games.
And indy games prove they don't have to have the latest most realistic graphics where you can see the thread count of the clothes. As long as the game is good even 8 bit graphics are fine. Honestly the realistic graphics just makes a game age faster. Borderlands 2 that has a cell shaded art style still looks good and it's an old arse game now.
Online mutliplayer need to be free again and sony needs to stop censoring games for stupid reasons.
@@markcarpenter6020Yeah but there are enough people who complain if the graphics aren't ultra realistic. I watched the trailer and the gameplay for "metaphor refantazio" which looks absolutely stunning in my opinion, and tons of people in the comments whine and mock it because it "looks like a ps2 game". You can also observe that whenever big companies showcase indie games. There are a lot of people who apperantly solely decide to buy based on graphics.
@@brotbrotsen1100 I honestly know and PC people have a similar deal about refresh rates. Honestly for anything 60+ (as long as it's stable) there is almost no noticeable difference for most players/games. And graphics have reached a similar point as well, there is very little difference between a game for say a PS4 and one for a PS5 at this point. So he bought a car everyone always looked down on(a beat up old VW) and the only customization he did was to the parts needed to race it(dropped a Porsche engine into it and some other things beyond my knowledge). @@markcarpenter6020 Yes to this day i have a hard time seeing the difference between a Ps4 and ps 5 game, comparing late ps3 games, Ps4 games and ps5 games side by side you will see a difference but i would never guess that this is whole console generations apart. I remember when the unreal engine 5 Demo dropped shortly before the ps5 released lol. The difference was slightly better lightning and individually moving rocks pretty much. I just hope we reach the limit in graphics someday and triple A games start focusing on the more important parts again.

the company that actually did the few most recent updates for PoGO fired a bunch of people, but the game can't revert the avatars back due to coding issues apparently. That's the last I heard of the subject around a week(ish) ago.

PC always had two key advantages for me. Ultimate backwards compatibility and the ability to incrementally upgrade on my own schedule.
Sure you can get a gaming PC but then you don’t own any of those games. If Steam tomorrow decides they are all in on dei and you question that your account is gone.

Here's one pro-console argument most people either don't know, or ignore. Ease of use/laziness. I like popping a game into my PS4, grabbing the controller & play. It's a tad more cumbersome on PC. Plus, I'm a Mac user, don't want to add another computer to my network, when a console suffices.

I dunno. I haven’t touched my gaming rig (Ryzen 9 5900x RTX 3080) for actual gaming since Psychonauts 2 released in late 2021. Since then I’ve been playing on Switch, PS5, Wii U, OG Xbox. I try to buy all my games physical, which hasn’t been a thing on PC for decades.
I’d rather be in the living room with my girlfriend than holed up in the office playing on my PC.
Nintendo won the console wars _by default_ back in 2006 by virtue of the Wii being the only console left. The other two were just PCs in disguise.

Sure, I'll grant the Wii sold 100million consoles but it had an AWFUL software library. The GameCube dropped third party support its last year but it was a life-saver that the Wii was backwards compatible with the GC library or there would have been next to no good games to play on the Wii otherwise!
The Wii left such a bad stink that the follow-up, WiiU, sold WORSE than the GameCube and GameCube was an excellent system with very good third party games. There were hardly any good third party games on the Wii consoles. They were the dumbest-named consoles to begin with!

They make both wired and wireless controllers for PC. You can sync up Xbox controllers via bluetooth to the PC.

I bought a Mini PC for under $400 last year which is now half the price. It plays WoW and Genshin Impact on Moderate graphics level, but better than my iMac. They are worth it, especially if you get a more powerful one for gaming.

consoles aren't going anywhere unless gaming PCs become cheaper and easier to use, then casuals are always going to buy consoles. And quite frankly your average person doesn't have the patience to deal with the constant errors and buying new graphics cards and hard drives.
As someone who isn’t very computer savvy, a gaming PC is very intimidating.
The price is intimidating if you get suckered into the 'cutting edge' mindset. Actually assembling the thing is pretty idiot proof, and there's lots of channels here on UA-cam can show you how. I'd recommend PaulsHardware.
For a PC that'll last at least a decade only costs around $3700 - $4000.

If you can use windows, and almost anyone can, then you can use a gaming PC. Just double click the icon of the game you bought and away it launches. Now if you want to mod a game that's a little more complicated but it's not too bad.
You know, I remember saying when the DS came out, I thought that Nintendo should quite the console market. They had the handheld market in the bag, if they put more money there, no one could compete. And here we are, and they have a console that IS a handheld. Funny how that turned out.
Consoles made sense back then in the early 2000s, though. Because the price of a gaming computer was SO high. It made sense to buy a console, but today it's the complete. Opposite tech has come such a long way, consoles are basically calculators. I literally use mine ninety percent of the time to watch netflix or hulu. But now, gaming pcs are a lot more affordable and you have a lot more options

Looking back and investigating the subject more, it wasn't really so much "Nintendo were dumb and they inspired Sony to make the PS1" and moreso "Nintendo read Sony's horrible contract that would have basically made the N64 THEIR property instead of Nintendo's, so they dropped the deal and that pissed Sony off into becoming a competitor".
It was a bad deal all around for Nintendo really, either have to compete for ownership with Sony or what ended up actually happening.

My point though is about marketpower. The biggest player always becomes the tyrant to stay the biggest player.
Its natural in a competetive setting. No matter which one, every team wants to win in sports, so everyone wants the other to lose.
As an exclusive PC gamer, my last console was a PS2. PCs may be pricier, but investing in a quality motherboard and power supply allows for upgrades over several years. The real catch is the graphics card, which is the most significant expense. If the latest model is out of reach, opting for a mid-high range card is wise (I always go for mid-high). It's much more affordable and will serve you well for a considerable time before needing an upgrade.
I have no idea if anyone wanted that info, but if it helps anyone it was worth it. ;)

My intention was to inform those who are unaware of how to prolong the lifespan of a gaming PC.
I typically opt for a complete rebuild roughly every six years, ensuring I have a future-proof motherboard and a reliable power supply. When it's time to upgrade, I sell the old parts and the entire machine, and use that money towards the next build. There is always someone out there looking for cheap, but reliable older PC and parts. It helps with future costs.

I have, as of last week, bought every video game that I have loved, like, wanted, and consider playing. I. Don't. Not. Care. Anymore. I hope these companies go under and PC rules the day. The Stellar Blade censorship is weird. The game still has outfits that are arguably more revealing and "sexual" than the censored ones so what was the point? Did Shift Up try to do the bare minimum to appease Sony or was there another reason for it? It's one of the dumbest examples of censorship I've ever seen.

Kneon, as a console user I can tell you that one of the reasons is that a console is basically 'plug and play'. No need to check specifications, graphic cards or other stuff. If I buy a PS5 I know that all PS5 games run.
So it's a convenience thing. I'm not saying it's a good reason or a valid one, that's just the reason for me: basic pc use illiteracy.
I kinda see your point, and it is a good one. However, every couple of years console gamers have to buy a new console, whereas if one starts with a decent rig, one pc can last a good, long while.

That's why I switched from PC to console back in the early 2010's. I got tired of constantly having to stress about specifications and fiddle with drivers and configs trying to get games to run acceptably...and even then every time there was a frame dip or stutter I'd obsess about needing to upgrade. With a console, I buy an Xbox or a PlayStation and know that every Xbox or PlayStation game is not only going to run out of the box on it but run as intended and the same as it runs on everyone else's hardware.
I really don't want to have to go back to PC again, and I have no interest in playing the 500th Mario or Kirby game, so if Sony and Microsoft dip from the gaming industry I'm probably just not going to be a gamer anymore.

They don't release a new console every couple of years like smartphones, there might be one around year 3-4 with slightly higher specs but generally the consumer waits for the next fully updated system to release which is between 6-8 years on average. By that point, most people would have to replaces parts if not the entire pc anyway.
What drives down the cost of a console is they are exactly the same as every other console from that manufacturer, unlike a pc where your processor affects what motherboard you can get, which in turn affects what ram you can use. Then there's the graphics card. SSD of course for running your OS, but what size? Then do you want to put in a blu-ray drive, another internal drive for storage, etc.
All true but you _pay_ for that with every game you purchase. Immediate higher upfront cost compared to steam, limited sales done infrequently, all the bugs the PC players get anyway with none of the mods and a much shallower library. Oh and the companies who control the console are a bunch of assholes who want to censor and dominate any studio who doesn't go along with the current politically correct thing if they want to make their game available for purchase. No thanks.

I been delving back into vintage gaming. The AI and graphics aren't as good as modern systems. Yet, the game play and stories are so much better.
Limitations breed innovation. When you only have so much space to on a cartridge/disc, you have to work extra hard to make the players care.
