I got the super tinker in 1990 for my birthday. It's the exact same knife but has the scissors. I carried it every day in a belt pouch for 30 years. Finally, when the scissors wouldn't cut anymore and the blade was half gone from sharpening, I bought a new one and retired the Tinker. I'm carrying the compact model now. I must say, the Tinker was the handiest knife I ever carried and gave me 30 years of service. Great little knife.

Great video George, thanks for sharing it with us. Congrats on your new SAK Tinker.
I carry a Victorinox Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet multitool, and a Victorinox Huntsman pocket knife, every time I leave the house. Those two tools have come in so handy.
Someone told me I didn't need a saw on my pocket knife. But I disagree. When I'm walking around my yard (I walk with the help of a cane) and I see branches from my neighbors trees growing through my fence, I just take out my pocket knife, open the saw, and cut the branch off. That keeps me from having to walk around the house and down into the basement to get a saw to cut them. And I have used that little saw for a lot of different chores, it works great.

I carry a camper or a farmer in my pocket every day, normally in the watch pocket of my jeans with about 3/4" sticking out but held securely.
The camper has the tweezers and toothpick, and is lighter, but the farmer has the durable alox aluminium scales and the tools are all slightly thicker and more robust. Some models have a kind of lock on the big flathead/bottle opener blade, where when you push hard on it when using it as a screwdriver the blade move back an 1/8" or so and locks the driver open so it doesn't close when you're pressing hard.

    👍 Good video.
As much as I would like to join “the big boy club” and carry a single blade knife (like a Sodbuster, Opinel #8 or #9, or a Buck 110) I find a need to the tools on my Victorinox SAK Spartan (a Tinker with a corkscrew instead of the 3-d Phillips head screwdriver - the small driver on the can opener works for me on most Phillips screws).
So, not yet ready for the step up to the “BBC” as I cannot give up my EDC Victorinox. 🤷🏻‍♂️

To make it your own you can take a very small round file and adjust the wire stripper so that it does also cut the isolation of a wire. Many instruction films on the internet about that. Then you can use it also as a striker for a fire rod. For EDC I have a Victorinox Compact with a very small flashlight attached to that.

Depending on how much you want to rely on yours, 2 channels here on UA-cam to check out are Felix Immler, he's all things SAK and bushcraft. And Jony Fire, mostly SAK from what I've seen. The only 2 big things missing that most people seem to want on their SAK's are scissors, and the saw. But since you've said you usually have your Opinel handy, that more than covers it. My pockets aren't empty, but not overloaded, either. Leatherman Micra, Swisstech tool (if I remember correctly it's called the Turtle), and a 3" or so liner lock with clip that rides my pocket edge. Plus a fullsize Leatherman original tool and small Maglite flashlight for my belt. Plus carabiner for my keys. Sounds like a lot, but it has all come in handy multiple times.

I will never forget the first time watching your channel on a tablet up close to my face. And then you took a swing at my head. Well that woke me up. Back in the early '80s when I was in my early thirties I made my first camping traveling trip out of Canada, through United States down to the bottom of Mexico. I carried a buck 124 and a Swiss Army champ. Normally I don't carry a Swiss Army EDC but if I were traveling to another city or country the little tools on those knives could be very handy. Like you I prefer a single blade. I have something similar to your knife called a Mercator made in Germany. It is a sod buster style knife and I think the German Army used to carry it a long time ago during the war. You might like it so much you're going to get hooked on Swiss Army knives.
The largest is the Wenger 16999 Swiss Army Knife Giant at 7 pounds.
The half stop on the bottle opener, open it halfway, put a wire in the little hole and then open up the knife blade and you will trap the wire inside the little Groove to strip it. There is a guy on UA-cam called Felix who has all the Swiss Army tool tricks you would be surprised how many things you could do with that knife.

7:40 - Don't think in this blade as cap bottle opener, but just a medium flat screwdriver, the opener is just... a "appendices" in the screwdriver. The can opener as a small screwdriver.
11:54 - Most people don't know how the SAK wire stripper work, their sides is at 90º, have some cut ability, so don't need nick the wire, just bend the wire down and pull in the other side.

    Hey George 👊
The Tinker or Super Tinker makes a good EDC, for sure! 👌
The medium size just means 91mm, they also did a Tinker Small 84mm, but they discontinued it.

@@2ndchancegeorge I recently bought a tinker small to add to the collection, but my personal favorite is the climber. I carry that near daily with a lanyard in a neck pouch. I use it for something nearly every day I especially like the scissors which I used today to cut some jerky into economical sized pieces for my dogs. You really should get a SAK with scissors when your budget allows. Great video once again. Best wishes!!!
