- Since the 1980s, the traditional views of the left (dominated by Marxist parties) was challenged by the New Left and Post-Modernism. This lead to the emergence of issue-based identity-politics that was supported by civil-society, NGOs, and also scores of young people educated in the West in the last three decades. This new politics has had a huge influence not in fracturing and destroying the left in the West but also impacting struggles in Pakistan.
In this video I examine three core themes of identity politics - axis of privilege, authenticity, and anti-essentialism - and show how these ideas result in a mass of interminable self-contradictions and self-defeating strategies.

This video is literally marvellous. I was way too confused about the identity politics of modern western feminists and other issues like gender is a spectrum.

A rich lecture to the extent one can imagine.
Biggest confusion of subcontinent can be understood if not resolved through this. Casteism in India and it's reaction are revolving in these circles.

Great explanation of identity politics, topics on the mentioned subject must be included in our courses of sociology and political science.
Dr Rahman - this was a brilliant breakdown of identity politics and the concept of post modernism . A very difficult topic to explain and grasp yet you do this very well. I say this as someone who doesn’t not agree with Marxism or many aspects of socialism that you profess to. Carry on your great work . An avid admirer from London .

hum indian hi hain, subcontinent se hi taluq rakhte hain na. Indus Valley Civilization is our root just like people in bhutan or nepal or afghanistan or india or bangladesh waghera waghera. But yes I also would love to see a video from him about it. Our Pak army loves to tell us to hate India, which helps them keep power and support from the people.
