  • Опубліковано 23 жов 2023
  • In this VladTV exclusive, music executive Lyor Cohen, who currently heads UA-cam Music and is the former CEO of Warner Music and president of Def Jam, shares his journey in the entertainment industry. Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles by Israeli parents, Cohen describes his early career in banking as miserable, leading him to organize concerts. His first big hit was a Run-D.M.C concert, followed by a less successful Houdini concert, which was a critical turning point in his career. Moving to New York, Cohen joined Russell Simmons' management company, Rush, just as Def Jam was starting. He served as road manager for acts like Run DMC and Beastie Boys. Moving along, Cohen detailed the many highlights of his career, which included running Def Jam, leading Warner Music, starting 300 Entertainment, and joining UA-cam. Check out the full interview above.

The way he talks about 360 deals like it’s partnership when is possible one of most Predatory deals in music history. The music industry was disparate as record sales were going away. Funny him re writing history. Even now labels have stopped doing them.

That's the thing. Many of the things we enjoy as consumers with all sorts of products/services have to realize there's polarizing things that happen behind the scenes to get that product, service or talent out to you. The guys running the Nike's, Apples, etc of the world have aspects of the business that are bad and good. Just part of business.
