I’ve only heard Luther do a duet with June and backup vocals for Johnny, but never actually heard an interview of him. Given that his career was cut short, it’s amazing that this exists at all.
Fellow southern brother god rest there souls Marshall Grant was born only one hour away from me fellow North Carolina boy but Luther Perkins is my favorite guitar player ever since I was a little kid I'm 20 now and still play guitar in Luther Perkins style
Incredible!! I've wanted to hear an interview with Luther. I was wondering if there were any out there. I just about fell out of my chair when I came across this. Great post, Lost. I don't know how you find these gems.
Luther was an important guitar player and an integral part of the Cash sound. As with Dewey Phillips, I don't believe Luther was ever given a proper, in depth interview.
I think this is the first time I've heard Luther talk
Rest In Peace Luther, that sound still moves on like a train.

I agree, why was Luther's career cut short, I didn't realize that?
@@michael-dy8tz He died from smoke inhalation and burns a few days after a house fire in August 1968.
Wow how tragic for him and all of us, thanks. @@thesquieresquire8306
Didn’t know Luther could talk
Nice to hear Luther's voice. He was always Johnny's silent poker faced guitar picker.
The best to ever do it

Shook hands with the man at Wichita, Kansas

I always wondered if Luther had any military service and turns out he was in the Air Force
Yep. You can also just barely see him wearing an Air Force bracelet on his right arm in a few live videos.

Doomed by a cigarette.
Luther and Steve Marriott, another guitarist I admire. Both killed by falling asleep with a cigarette on the go.
